It's true, they do like to hire from within. That is how you have a complete management structure devoid of any management or leadership training. I'm sure some people in management have some kind of education in running a busienss but they are not the ones "hired from with in". There are some good people in management but the primary focus is push the garbage collector to his physical limits until he is injured. It is at that point that you learn how much the company values you and this is when you learn about the relationship between Miller and WSIB. They employ an HR specialist who's primary focus is minimizing how much money their injured employees get from WSIB. Sure, there are some guys that don't get hurt but there is a reason that Miller is always hiring. There is a reason that you are a veteran employee if you last 3 years. The pay is OK. The work load is intense. If you work there, don't make the mistake that so many guys do, don't work too hard thinking the company will appreciate your effort and be there for you if you get injured. They won't be. They will blame you for getting hurt on the job, in an industry with one of the highest injury rates. It's up there with mining, forestry, fisheries and other jobs that have higher death and injury rates than police or firefighters.
