- “What a waste of time, now start doing some real physics!” - As a young man, John Clauser set out to topple quantum mechanics, but all his faculty thought he was crazy. "I thought it was important at the time, even though I was going to ruin my career by doing it, and in some sense I did: I’ve never been a professor!" But, as he tells Adam Smith in this joyous call recorded in the middle of the night, as Clauser is besieged by reporters, he was having fun. And, as history surely confirms, “I proved that I was a decent experimentalist!”
The fact that he can be rejected by Richard Feynman and all other physicists and still be consistent and eventually get a Nobel prize amazes me. Such a humble person, one person I aspire to be.
To be deemed not worthy of a tenured faculty position but win a Nobel Prize later on. He must be feeling vindicated
For real thou!!
What a humble person! He says candidly that he is not yet a professor! It seems most of his colleagues even did not count him!
Well said👌
@@unamngxale8286 I'm surprised that an african would comment on the Nobel Prize in Physics, given that not a single person of african descent has ever won the prize. Same with Nobel Chemistry, and Nobel Physiology. African-descent people have almost no capacity for abstract thinking. It's genetic. Nothing's going to change it.
I'm very surprised he got it without being a professor. Congratulations to John.
The happiness is shining in his voice. Well deserved! Many congratulations Mr.Clauser. You are not just a decent experimentalist, you are a Nobel worthy experimentalist.
Inspirational story....Truly the best scavanger for parts. The perfect improviser.
You can hear the happiness in his voice
he sound tired but excited and enthusiastic at the same time XD
I'm loving these interviews! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. Such a motivation for students, professors, enthusiasts and everyone who's as passionate for this breathtaking field. Congratulations to John! Can't wait to read more about his previous work. He's truly inspiring, brave enough to pursue his path, despite the lack of support.
Glad you like them. Thanks for watching!
@@NobelPrize Of course! I wouldn't miss them for anything. Thank you for you kind reply.
Such an amazing personality. Wow 👏
Such amazing joy, lovely and contageous at the same time. Looking forward to hearing his Nobel talk! :)
Years of hard work and perseverance finally paid off. Damn man, getting a call like this is so many nerds dream(me too). Thank you for this phone interview, they are really fun and encouraging for so many people. Man his laugh is so warming. Love it ❤
John Clauser should have received that Nobel Prize forty years ago, along with John Bell.
They save the quantum mechanics. It's a re establishment of quantum mechanics. On the other hand general theory of relativity also experimentally verified by LIGO. But still the bridges between GTR and QFT is missing. I believe that in my life time , one fine morning someone can be able to find that missing links. Thanks Nobel committee.
This is a story I would like to see in a movie.
Great to hear such a wonderful person. A perfect improviser..
I am very happy . Wonderful
Congratulations Dr John
Congratulations John 🎊🥂
Congratulation Dr. Clauser!!
Congratulations sir 🙌💙
what an inspiring story!!
Wonderful too he is ...he isn't just a scientist but nice human being and scavenger.
Excellent.... thanks 🙏.
I would like to repeat the experiment with one detector made of antimatter, to see if it makes a difference. If the experiment is too dangerous, then I would like to explore the situation with computer simulation. What John Bell and the prizewinners have shown is that any theory which can guide that simulation has to be nonlocal. I will kick off by proposing something pretty simple. There's more than one way to travel faster than light. One way is associated with wavelike behaviour, and the other way is associated with particle-like behaviour. We have a new degree of freedom to play around with to circumvent the difficulty that the Schroedinger equation is just too accurate at the ensemble level. Congratulations to the winners!
Congratulations
Blending with such a unprecedented rhapsody❤❤
This is so inspiring for physics students like me..
Wonderful!
Congratulations . It’s a surprise for me that Nobel prize is not only for professors in physics!
Says a lot about the University system that there wasn't much of a place for John Clauser and he's better than all those people who rejected him.
Congratulations Clauser Sir
Real Quantum Hero, Always agaings the odds.🎉
Congratulations💐💐💐
HUMBLE and NOBEL LAUREATE
I love how he said he didnt have a time to put his pants on, and the British guy died inside a little bit :D
🤣😂😅
All our brains went: AMERICAN pants, not BRITISH pants oh no he means trousers
This is the reason why we all love this prize. It actually picks up real talents which some times not recognised by the society. Thanks Swedish Nobel Commetee for picking up hidden gems and wonderful works. You don't know how u are inspiring us.
Congratulations to John.
This guy is awesome
🙏🍁💐Congratulations sir💐🍁🌸🙏
Go John! I knew you had it in you.
Quite an embarrassment for the institutions he was a part of that they did not deem him worthy of a full professorship. Justifiably so as it appears that the experts fooled themselves with their own ignorance and arrogance. A little bit of doubt and humility go a long way.
I’m going to put forward my question that most everyone fears considering or dismissing:
Because nothing (with mass) can “travel” at or faster than the speed of light, and even if it could, it would still be a futile means for interstellar or intergalactic travel…
…therefore, with the authenticity, the veracity of quantum entanglement, can we for the first in human history, legitimately postulate or hypothesis teleportation (allowing us to essentially go anywhere in the universe, the distance of say a lightyear, in a picosecond ?
Quantum entanglement suggest that we or forms of us, already exist in other places-all places.
Wow! This is the stuff of real experimental physicists!
Hell yeah , it's quantum time baby
It's about time.
I think a excellent choice
That's Inspiratinal ♥♥♥♥♥
👏👏
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Dr. Clauser is a HS graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Go Poly!😀
John Clauser is a quintessential American male. Love him! :)
Not,virtues of being nice human being doesn't depend on any factor of birth. He is universal man who inspires and motivates good to the world.
Rise above ,brother.
Only quirk of luck can't make one to be noble but for that a person has to work hard and improve himself a lot.
laughing
I have a chance of meeting him on Video conference through my uncle who is a scientist himself.
Congratulations Quantum optics entangled photons quantum information processing Fiber optics
Give me a heart please
