Have you heard some confirmation about Aptera in Amsterdam in November or is it guesswork? It would be great to have a preproduction model in Europe for Fully Charged and TÜV validation ;)
@luxfino Finally it's up to Aptera, but this is the plan to combine it. We evaluate how we can take part there and push Homologation here. But today, you're right. It's unclear Aptera can schedules let match to do us the favor.
Glad to hear that Aptera is taking the Gamma prototype out into the public for people to see. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception it will receive at the Tesla event.
I would like to think that Tesla enthusiasts would embrace the Aptera with open arms. In spite of its unconventional design, Aptera is taking what Tesla has done and is going the extra mile with profoundly reducing drag & implementing a solar array, which is actually capable of meaningful daily range gains. I am a former Tesla enthusiast, but I still appreciate its impact on the auto industry. I just hope others find the Aptera as compelling as I (we) do.
Re: Aptera Side Clearances. Hope they go for UP swinging hinges (per Lamborghini) vs OUT. Should add nil to costs, if engineered properly. I prefer the all dark steering wheel/yoke.
My only concern about the aptera is that during a test drive with the media, it couldn't drive up hills. Apparently, it was never tested for doing this. I live in a very hilly city, so it has to perform in such an environment. All the media I've seen shows it driving on flat terrain. This is a red flag for me.
I heard about that, but I havent seen what happened yet. Sounds like it overheated somewhere, if thats true its not so much a hill problem as it is a battery or motor cooling problem. I still wouldnt call that a red flag on a prototype though, just an issue that needs fixing. There will be more, we're still in early stages of development.
@passivlife I was talking in general, it's a must address issue for aptera. I can't believe they haven't tested it on hills. So I will be eagerly watching for aptera to look at this issue in the very near future.

@speedturtle_andre on the contrary, talk about weaknesses is helpful as it highlights the issue to be fixed! Whether it's water proofed or not, it must be able to travel up hills without overheating. If this goes out, clearly apters hadn't tested it for this, then aptera will get a bad name. By talking about, aptera can look at and manage the issue. Saying nothing helps no one. For saying nothing is the domain of yes men. I like the idea of aptera and what they are attempting to do, so I certainly do not want the brand to get a bad reputation. Besides, I live in one of the top 10 hilliest capital cities in the world, so hill climbing is a must have!!! I still can't believe aptera hadn't thought to test it for this.

Officially 2024 if you reserve the launch edition. But that is dependent on getting the rest of the funding needed very soon. Otherwise there will probably be a delay to 2025.
As Italian, considering the Italian supplier and collaboration in building this vehicle, I think it is the best “Italian” electric car. You should work with governments to receive incentives for this kind of vehicle, able to refuel using solar energy. They are a new category: iper sustainable, self recharging and very low energy consumption.
Hopefully they'll do a better job of preparing/vetting interviews. The NBC one recently felt like the Simpsons episode of the faux Disney Electric Vehicle ride (brought to you by the Petroleum Industry).
It seems like Aptera does not have funding to start production. Validating should have or was done over one year ago. I want a video on where Aptera is financially on having funds to start production. I think these videos are shining people on until they can secure funding to start production.
There are lots of videos on Aptera funding and financial statements. In a nutshell, they need a bulk investment of at least another 50m to start the first production run. It's not much, but they need it all at once to nail all the material/parts orders. After those initial test vehicles have been produced they can then start asking customers for money.
True. I think they really just wanted to take the opportunity to do some early testing while they were in the area. It would have been nice to get some kind of confirmation, like if it was performing as expected.
I wouldn't say there are any red flags yet. But there will always be nerves about any start-up, especially in this industry. Not much they can do apart from push for funding at this point. Everything hinges on funding.
Should there be concern with the viability of the Aptera given that there are solid state batteries coming soon that match the range of the 1000 mile lithium ion Aptera battery. Solid state charges much faster as well so solar panels on vehicles won't make sense for most owners outside the southern sunbelt.
I'm not concerned. The Aptera still has major advantages, it's efficiency means for most people they won't have to charge more than once or twice a year even in the north, and it costs far less to charge up. Aptera will still charge faster than almost every ev on the market if it needs to. There's also a big difference in freedom between being able to charge fast from a high speed charger and not needing to think about charging at all. Aptera can go anywhere without thinking about a charge network. To refill in under ten minutes future evs need a charger that doesn't yet exist...probably 500kw plus because they still think huge batteries ate the answer, and if you're talking about the toyota battery, it doesn't actually exist yet, thats just toyota panicking and needing to stop their customers jumping ship. Their real next gen ev won't hit those numbers, they just don't get the importance of efficiency. If the 60kwh Aptera can charge at 150kw it will be the fastest charging ev ever anyway.
Yes. It was annoyingly simple. The wheel motor coolant was not connected because they ran out of time before shipping the gamma prototype off to Europe. But it worked so well without it connected that they didn't think it would be a problem. Unfortunately that turned out to be not true on national TV. At least its not a real problem with the design or battery.
How can you have the opportunity to prove the claim of efficiency by having the vehicle in a wind tunnel and not get the "actual" drag coefficient number? That's some B.S. if you ask me!!!
COD numbers for that set up really don't matter. They were learning what they will have to do to test the Delta when it is ready. They have never tested a 3 wheeler in that way in the tunnel. Did you see how they had to support the rear wheel to keep it off the tread mill? Don't you think those brackets would effect the COD? Just wait a few months and we will get some accurate numbers.
Yes the gamma prototype. The motor cooling was not connected, it was only a visual prototype for the outer shell. It hadn't had any problems with hills before that, they've tested the beta prototype on a race track in the desert and its fine (with motor cooling attached) Bad luck on national TV for that to happen. The dumb presenter implied a vehicle faster than a tesla hadn't enough power for a small hill.
They could but if its even slightly more than we're expecting, it might not be a great idea. This level of aerodynamics is hard to achieve. My guess is they are further away from 0.13 than they would like to be, probably because of things like large panel gaps and the narrower wheel span of the gamma.
@@passivlife I suspect the same thing. If the measurements were exciting, Aptera would be crowing about them. Not that it makes much difference, in the end the only thing that matters is the eMPG on the car's Monroney label and the rest is academic.
Yes but the 1000 mile range has been a strong marketing point as well. If they are over their drag co target then they start to get knock on effects in other areas, do they for example need to increase the battery sizes etc...
@@passivlife Aptera's been backing away from the 1000-mi range option for a pretty long time. I know what you mean but all the aptera calculations are based on the 1000 mile version, so its still central to the whole concept.
