I’ve seen deftones many many times but one time I got my nose broke and it was bleeding 🩸 everywhere and chino says hey help that guy up here. The crowd surfed me up and Let me up on stage and he asked if I wanted an ambulance 🚑 or to stay on the stage I chose the stage and stayed up there for the rest of the show which led to me being a vocalist myself and getting on stage and doing a cover of bored and later 7 words I think. Anyway thanks for the “heads up” Chino.
do the emojis do anything to help tell that story?
That is so cool.
That’s badass. Something you will never forget I’m sure. Chino is a great dude.
Brett Lakes yeah’ it was..” and it’s really what made me want to sing on stage, because of how I felt that day. I wanted to have similar experiences in reverse. And I did. Cheers
awesome inspiring story
I loved making this film. I would have never made it without the love and support from Deftones
nice to hear from the main man himself. great doc btw.
A sense of sarcasm possibly
Is it true that their record label tried to bury this?
Hey bro can I get the final version you did of this please? I'd love to see more
Sometimes i don't uderstand how i can love this band so much, maybe because they are unique and their sound speakes to me like no other band's
Seems like a good reason !
because they're real like the good news of Yeshua.
Deftones and Alice In Chains are like that to me
@@jakeconverse7399 dude i also love aic!!
I feel that totally man, Deftones music does something I cant explain in my soul!!

I feel that ❤😩🖤
Yeah....
"Our fans are all of different strains of thought. There's people that like us because our music's...loud. There's a lot, a lot of people that like us because our music fuels them to...you know...and it gives them aggression; just feel powerful, you know what I mean. And um, at the same time, there's parts of our music that's real subtle and sweet. And I think people get pulled in by that as well."
I met Stephen Carpenter at a show in Portland, and he just stood there stoned outta his mind.

Yep... sounds like Steph
This shit made me laugh 😂
I wish i were a deftones member like their butler or something.
I can’t picture any of them with a butler 🤣

I will always love this band. I feel like they really transcended the whole "NuMetal" genre they got lumped into. None of those other bands hold up in my opinion, but Deftones records sound better than ever.
@Mr. Bum Tickler Deftones is a genre
While Deftones are absolutely my favorite band of all time since 1997, I wouldn't say "none" of those other bands because you cannot discount what Korn did and continues to do. They were absolutely instrumental in breaking new ground in 1994/5. Having said that, these boys in this video are like gods to me, but Jonathan and his boys are very close next to them.
@Mr. Bum Tickler I'm not even a deftones fan but no way in hell Korn is better.
@Mr. Bum Tickler I'll take a look at those first 2 albums again. It's been awhile since I went through those albums. Past the first 2 albums is there any other notable ones I should look at?
@Mr. Bum Tickler Korn IS the shit, not just was. Deftones are the shit also.
May 8, 2003, First time I saw Deftones for a couple surprise guerrilla shows they had lined up before their self-titled album. I was 20 working at KFC with my best friend, we were hyped because the raido was teasing a mystery band show announcement all day. My buddy and I were joking it was Deftones because they were our favorite band at the time. Right before the end of our work shift the radio finally announce that it was Deftones! We knew this was an omen and we drove a couple hours down to Detroit to wait in line until morning to buy tickets at St. Andrew's. Made some friends in line and Deftones played an amazing set.
Detroit?
@@givememoretech yes its a major metropolitan city in the state of Michigan. Michigan is located in the United States of America
@@jdunlap8339 yeah I know, I was there too. Also my favorite deftones show ever
My first Deftones show experience sounds a lot like yours. I've seen them like 11 or 12 times, and they've NEVER disappointed me. In fact, I can only think of one show I saw that Chino was not at his best (he said he was coming down with the flu). Even then, he still put on an energetic performance in spite of his voice not being 100%. They were touring the self titled album then.

RIP Chi....
@SPECTRE no. chi cheng their bassist. he died in 2013
Chi was so eloquent, seemed an intelligent and decent man
He was talking about leaving the band to be a teacher
@@vaughnmild4467 i didn't know that, thanks. I guess he knew he had more to offer than his (in his words) lack of musical ability :)
He wrote poetry, and he wanted to be an English teacher..
he was intelligent, a writer of poetry and read books all the time.
@@vaughnmild4467 it's worth mentioning though he mostly said this when he was annoyed at the other band members and almost certainly said it in jest. I remember reading in an interview a long time ago that Stephen said something like ''Well why don't you then'' in response to Chi saying this. They were talking about it in the interview. lmao.
I remember high school in art class was rockin a red white pony deftones T shirt and this guy poking fun at it calling it a fake ralph lauren polo shirt. I said to him it's a band preppie boy. Months later his ass was raving how good their music was. And where did i get my shirt. I was like at a concert. Next thing you know everyone was bandwagoning.
oh schoool.......
Bandwagoning on YOU? Maybe alot of people just liked the music? But maybe we were all just copying YOU

That “Teenager” at around 44:00 in... wow. Ive had the privilege to have seen Deftones a decent amount (around 10-12 shows) of times, but I have never gotten a “Teenager” in person.
For some odd reason all I could think of is imagining being the girl who's mopping the floor and relate to her position of a dead end job and having this massive ass rock band perform right after you just cleaned up the damn thing , idk maybe I might be the only who's looking at it that way lol , also this documentary is dope , an hour of deftones lives pretty cool.
I know what you mean
I saw them more times than any other band in some of the weirdest places. I'm from the Bay, and the first time was in a tiny venue with about 20 of us in the room. Chino had dread locks, was high on meth and just killed it like he was playing a stadium. He did 2 songs hanging upside down from the rafters, it was amazing.
Another time was at a club called Slim's in SF. This was around 98. They were listed by a pseudonym and one of the Skinlab guys told me it was actually Deftones and got us both in. That, was a show!
And I saw them play all over the place outside the Bay.Once in England, fucking Nebraska, crazy random places.
They always crushed it.
Chino on meth😮? Glad he didn’t get addicted
@@Sith-ari100he said he was addicted to it during SNW too.

Lol I don't even remember making this comment 😂
Crazy to see Celeste in this. She is a SUPER private person for the most part. There’s barely any pictures of them out there. She’s a good woman for sure. She put up with A LOT!!!!!!

I followed them on the east coast when they toured the white pony. Best night was at The Norva in Virginia, they played say it ain't so and got to hang with Stephtone after the show and everyone else. Forever my favorite band, R.I.P. Chi, dude left it all on stage every night. No damn smartphones back then just raw shows, people packed in like cattle jumping around and a lot of other metal heads sweat you never wanted in your mouth, those were the days.
When i was 17, I saw em here in Chicago at the Aragon back in 02. I pushed my way to the front. So many ppl were crushing me against the bar and the heat and sweat of everyone was unbearable that i thought i was gonna pass out. Luckily security saw and pulled me out and took me to a side door where i promptly vomited in a trash can. Went to the bathroom to clean and cool off. I was glad and grateful that they helped but as soon as i finished be quiet and drive started. If only i could've held on for 5 more minutes i could've watched my all time favorite band play my favorite song on white pony. But like u said, no smartphones, just sweat and the love of music.
In '98 me and the boys took our chick friend Melissa M to her first Deftones show at the Riviera in Chicago. As soon as the lights went down we saw from the balcony a trashcan crowd surfing. After the show our resident Beast asked "did y'all see the trashcan?" We said, " yeah!" He said, "I threw that shit!" We all screamed in unison. AHHH! Like, this motherfucker. She had a fucking memorable show. Oh, the only reason I was in the balcony was one of our friends had a bit of the flu, so I decided to stay with them so they weren't alone
This is where the Digital Bath video montage comes from
Wow, never clicked so fast. Gotta watch this now before it disappears into the internet ether! Thanks for the re-upload!

First ever Deftones song I heard was in a video game: True Crime Streets of LA. At the final chapter boss fight, Minerva started playing and that song just blew my mind. After that I have been a fan. Chino’s voice is just so amazing omg it’s so chilling. Honestly my fave song has to be Change (In the House of Flies)
Oh yes, definitely it is...
Minerva blew ur mind and it aint even top twenty deftones songs
I first hear them in Saints Row 2, also a video game- Hole in the Earth on Gen X radio

I got hooked on these riffs the first time I heard deftones. One of my favorites and one of the best ever. They’re very unique. My 15 year old daughter had digital bath playing out of her speaker while taking a shower. I was blown away, especially during this time when all teens pretty much listen to rap and hip hop exclusively. ❤️

Everyone chooses a certain genre and song/ band to relate or relay a certain emotion and when they no longer feel that way, they turn on a different genre and song/band. I do not. Deftones and every song they have is the only genre and band i need to listen to day to day. Of course i still listen to other things but deftones is the first one i go to each day. Will always love this band. Even got the white pony silhouette tattooed

Crazy. I'm watching this documentary weeks after Astoworld. Chino stops the show to help people in danger without hesitation.

I didn't even know I had goals until now lol ...that's fucking badass
I had the privilege of seeing the deftones back in 2001 during the White pony tour here in Chile, till this day is the most intense concert experience I've ever been to
Deftones have always been one of my all time faves. I took my son to see them in 2016 when he was about 13 for his 1st concert! What a fantastic night. We both sang every song as jumped around letting loose and it’s a memory I will always cherish! I love that my kids love all the same shit I grew up on and have loved for many years. As my son says this when music was good! Before auto tune and fake rockstars! 😂 This is the music means something and its something you connect with and feel deep inside! Thanks for sharing video!

Im 23 now, I remember finding the deftones cd's in the handed down cd case that ran from my uncles to my older brother and me. From there I was listening to them all the time along with a couple other bands. I just would like to shout out my uncles for showing me some incredible music.
