    To not show *ANY* Aaron Nola from 2016 is a crime. His 2-seamer was absolutely filthy early in the year, starting off the plate and at the last possible second, hitting the black/outside corner. Not to mention his curveball was the best in baseball for the first 2 months per FanGraphs. He had some health problems later, but he had been unhitable.

    great collection of breaking balls. sliders wreck elbows and curves wreck shoulders, throwing stuff like this, it's no wonder most of them don't last long. the good ones know how to throw off speed stuff and locate pitches to save their arms and keep hitters unbalanced.

    • @moegerms
      @moegerms 8 лет назад

      +Owen Mercer You're 100% wrong. He ALWAYS calls Clayton's curveball a change or a change-up. If you've ever watched Kershaw pitch you'd know this.
      And to answer the question as to why he does it it's because before broadcasters started using the term "off-speed" they used the the term "change" or "change-up" to describe any pitch other than the fastball because of the change in velocity...
      Scully is wrong and also not wrong. Clayton as good as he is is only a 3-pitch pitcher (fastball, curve, slider). He has no change up, his curveball acts as the change in speed as his slider is anywhere between 84-90mph. On a technicality it is and also isn't a change-up depending on which decade you live in.

    I am still learning to identify different pitches. 1:44 Matz pitching the announcer says changeup but the movement looks like a cutter. Its at 85 mph. Could you say it was a cutter but also considered like a fast changeup?
