Yes, farmer Ted’s friend is John Cusack. It’s his sister, Joan, who plays the student with the scoliosis brace. They are often in movies together. Say Anything, and Grosse Pointe Blank to name two of my favorites. I highly recommend!

Fun Fact: John Hughes cast Molly Ringwald after seeing her headshot. Inspired by Ringwald's appearance, he put it up over his desk and wrote the film just over a weekend, with her specifically in mind for the lead role.
Trend Sitter Fact: The movie's costume designer begged Molly Ringwald not to wear the hat she wore in the beginning of the movie. Ringwald insisted. After the movie was released, teenage girls started wearing their hats tilted back like that.
Slight Oversight Fact: Carlin Glynn confronted John Hughes about the fact that the script didn't call for her to apologize for forgetting her daughter's birthday, despite the fact that her character was described as a good and attentive mother. Hughes agreed, and added the scene where Brenda tearfully apologizes to Samantha (Molly Ringwald).

I'm impressed you recognized the red head from Gremlins 2 because I've seen both many, many times and never noticed.
I didn’t either. But he didn’t recognise Long Duk Dong from Gremlins 2 (admittedly he played a small part but still), but surprised at that as usually he’s so good at clocking people and remembering other roles.
We laughed at everything back in the 80s! And that was a good thing. Both John and Joan Cusack--both starting out. Just a fantastic cast all around. It was great seeing you have so much fun with this movie. Looking forward to the next reaction!

Anthony Michael Hall works with John Hughes yet again on Weird Science, which is probably the most divisive of Hughes' movies, but I know you'll enjoy it JL.
Lol, overall a fun movie, but I always get the impression that a lot of the jokes were throwaways from other movies. Some just didn't really land.

You pretty much caught everyone in the film and what other films you saw them in. But one you missed was the groom, he played the janitor in The Breakfast Club.
I didn't realize till JL said it, "that's the chick from Gremlins 2."

John & Joan Cusack, brother & sister, were both in this. John is the guy you pointed out at about mm 13:40 on the left in the gym, & Joan is the girl in the medical neck brace. Neck braces like that are worn for neck problems from auto accidents, or horse riding accidents, or if you were born with some sort of problem or deformity, or post surgery. Now days they probably have a little different design & look. What her character needs til she gets that neck brace off, is to carry a drink/ cup with straw everywhere.
These were early breakout roles for them.
Another movie they starred in together as Adults, was Martian Child. It's a good movie.
The girl with the long dangle earrings & dark hair, on the right of the screen, when Carolyn's hair is being chopped off, at mm 23:12 is Jamie Gertz, who played Starr in The Lost Boys. This was one of her first roles too, if not the first.
John Hughes movies just have a way of making me feel 16 years old again.

The next John Hughes movie you should watch is Weird Science. It has Harvey Jr. aka Anthony Michael Hall and it's hilarious. Another good one is Some Kind of Wonderful written by John Hughes.
A dark movie with some of the Brat pack members is Less Than Zero. Robert Downey Jr stars and is amazing in it.

BTW: The character “Long Duck Dong” isn’t Chinese, he’s Japanese. The real life person is “Gede Watanabe”, he’s American and one of my favorite actors, check out the movie: “Gung Ho”, it’s a Ron Howard movie (guy who made Apollo 13), it’s about a Japanese car maker opening a factory in America and all the problems with American vs. Japanese culture, it’s really good! 😎

Great reaction, Murderwhistle! Gen-Xer here, graduated in 1985. Yeah, looking back almost 40 years, some things look bad. All I can say is if you did not live in that time as a late teenager, you can't understand.
@scorpiouk5914 you're right! They don't REALIZE that back then things were a little bit different. IDK how your friends were, but my friends were having hotel parties and was a whole lot of everybody get naked and jump in the pile going on. Plus he was ready to dump her anyway...cuz she was threatening him with how she could get other men to "love" her. The only reason she changed it up and so let's not get into a wicked fight WAS because she saw him take a 10-second breather. She realized holy crap he's thinking about it, he really is right behind me at the top of THIS relationships with both hands on my back ready to shove me down the stairs. 😂 They may say they love each other but honestly they using each other for status and sex at that point. She likes his money and being the center of attention, he likes having her on his arm and he'll put up with her stupidity even though he wants another gf. Together THEY'RE like the snake that ate its own tail... Being a Scorpio, I know you get the analogy... I'm October 27th/28th. You and I are on the same page, ours was a hard time to live in and then to explain. I got married young just a little bit after I got out of high school, so we're probably a few years apart. The actor who played the dad was also the dad in "Breaking Away". That is a great movie, with some actors you would recognize, that a lot of people have never seen.

Molly Ringwald recently said she regrets a lot of things about this movie and said she voiced concerns to John Hughes but she was shut down. She definitely hates the whole long duck dong thing and how they had the gong every time he appears and the thing with Jake and his girlfriend how he basically gives her to Michael Anthony Halls character.
I was visiting Japan for 2 weeks in 2006 and forgot my B Day. There was no one there to remind me.

Not sure what John Hughes you have seen and not seen. However, the two that are indispensable are Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club. However, Some Kind of Wonderful and Pretty in Pink are next tier. Both are outstanding movies I believe you would enjoy.
Breakfast club is on the channel already (maybe J’s favorite movie he’s watched on the channel so far) and Ferris Bueller is coming soon.

In the 1970's, there was an adult star named "Long Dong Silver". He was a Black dude with a gift from God!! I'm talkin knee length! In the 70's though, all you could get were 8mm flick's. No sound, and in black and white on most. So, of course there was always Dads, or in my case Gramps, stash of Playboy, or if they were a player a little "Hustler". Which I thoroughly enjoyed the Joke section's of.

@@merkitten953 So in the scene it seems like they were both drunk. He asked her if she thought something happened between them and she said I think so. If that's the case then they were both in an altered state not fully aware of what they were doing, Although I don't recall him being drunk.He was taking care of her because she was wasted. I love this movie but no it hasn't aged well!
They were both drunk but of course HE was the one that raped HER 🙄. SHE was climbing all over him and even drugged him with one of her birth control pills but of course, HE’s the one that raped HER…. 🙄

Fun fact -- the actress who played Carolyn, as you probably guessed from being in Gremlins 2, is a natural redhead. Not wanting to take attention away from Molly, it was reportedly her idea for Carolyn to be blonde.
She retired from acting years ago and went into real estate last I saw.
Definitely hot in Gremlins 2.
