My sister noticed the similarity of the set between the last scene as well as the scenes where she held the scissors. We assumed it might mean that the entire video was a visualization of her internal conflict (as well as other problems), and the girls arrived at the right moment, bringing her out of her dark thoughts.
This mv certainly talks about Hwasa since it showcased what she's really feeling especially about the haters and how they hurt her. The pencils symbolizes the haters who will only hurt and talk dirty of Hwasa. The crown symbolizes her effort to become an idol that inspires many people. She worked hard to become this icon that we know today. But at the end of the day and regardless of the hate she receives, her friends will be there for her as the home that will care and accept her for who she really is. Mamamoo members are so supportive towards each other. The way they love and value one another is a type of friendship that will really last for a long time, if not forever. Thank you for this reaction Ben.

I'm not sure about the choreographer guy you mentioned, but I know Lia Kim had a hand in choreographing this song. Also, I'm so interested in the story here. Hwasa is so obviously trying to say something, I feel like she always is. Right after I watched it, I looked up the lyrics and it's a lot about taking in hate she receives and telling Maria (who I think is supposed to be a certain side of her) that she's beautiful. It's a very honest and uplifting song in a way. I hope she talks about the meaning of the song in relation to the MV at some point 💙
yeah, the dancer/choreographer you're mentioning is baek/xion, but i believe the guy he pointed out here is 'force', who was the second dancer alongside xion in wheein's "lo lo" cover
Hwasa said Maria is the crystallized tears and sweat that she shed. The MV starts with a crime scene, Hwasa is dead and people are still trying to take some shots of her. A red hair Maria (an alter ego after Hwasa baptismal name) is watching the scene careless. Hwasa funeral, only empty chairs with invitation on it and with its back turned, nobody cares like she says in the lyrics. Here an homage to the most beautiful and powerful scene in Malena movie, with all those men offering their lighter to her. Malena is the most beautiful woman of a SMALL village (it can be a comparison to South Korea restricted mentality), because of her looks and her solitary state, she is an object of lust for all the town's men and of hatred for its women…after many vicissitudes and a very hard time she understood that her beauty is her salvation. So she cuts her black hair and dyes by red her hair, changing her attitude as well. We can clearly see a difference among Hwasa and Maria, both in outfits and attitude. In the table scene we can see a bloodstained Maria with rubber boots and a pretty simple outfit at a table with people all dressed up, they're keyboard warriors. Again lyrics "You all worked hard hating. If you knock me down. Does that feed you?" She's serving them with all sort of things. The table is full with jewels, trove of tapes, mics, cds, diamonds…but they're just looking at those picky. Maria with a bored face is watching them and then she starts happily eating a brain. The difference among Maria and those people is so strong and impactful. I've also read that eat someone's brain means pester someone. The triangular tub is also interesting, she's bathing in milk and rose petals like a Queen and her skin is so white, but once again she looks bored and then she starts to make 'no' gesture with her finger with a smirking face. Like 'I don't need to be pale, I'm beautiful like this'… probably a references to all hateful comments she gets about her bronze skin since ages. We're back to Hwasa, she's trapped like in a mental hospital with a straitjacket, all her body is constrained by laces…this once again can be interpreted as the restricted South Korea mentality. They're monitoring her, pencils (comments) are pointed at her and she is trying to escape from this kind of net (network) until she finds a crown with diamonds and nails (representing the double faces of success). Ink-stained hands Hwasa decides to wear the crown, She got ink on her hands while fighting malicious comments, in fact we can see her beating her fists on the ground and shouting. The triangular tub is back but this time we can see Maria and Hwasa looking at each other through a bloody water. A triangle is a figure linked to different trinities like mind, body & spirit; past, present & future; thought, feeling & emotion and creation, preservation and destruction. And, personally, all those fit this MV perfectly. And now we discover Hwasa was not dead at all. Like it was all a dream, in fact she's on a coach with scissor in her hands, she is alone with her thoughts when suddenly Mamamoo members appear with big smiles. She said many times Mamamoo are her strength and she was able to face difficulties since trainee period only because they were together. The whole lyrics are beautiful and powerful but sad at the same time. She said this is an exciting yet sad song, she likes those kind of songs because they resemble life. She co-wrote and co-composed 4 songs out of 6 of this album…an amazing album with powerful collaborations, a Queen like always.
I'm normally not very good at understanding MV references and meanings but I know for sure that the cigarette MV scene is from the classic Italian movie Malèna which is about how society judges a woman just because she was "too sensual" and different in her time. In that scene she gives herself a makeover so she cuts and dies her hair from dark brown to red just like Hwasa here to I guess "fit in"/ own the shit ppl say about her and make herself available to men and as soon as she pulls out the cigarette the men around her start to offer her help while the women around her where jealous of her beauty and how bold she was for doing what she did calling her disgusting. Here is the movie clip for those of u who wanna see the OG scene: ruclips.net/video/zkBkTx-GL8s/видео.html. There were a lot biblical references too like the crown with the nails. And in the end u see her friends come over to help her through the hard times dealing with societies negativity like the way ppl reacted when she died. They only cared about her when she died and where not decent enough to respect her and took pictures of her dead body and yet nobody showed up to her funeral, I think the first MV scene shows u what would have happened if she didn't have the support of her band members and if she wasn't strong enough and let the floating pencils which I think represent the press and the articles written about her aka ppls BS get to her. If u look up the lyrics u will understand it better, they are very touchy and powerfully relatable to many females out there including myself. This is definitely a sad and personal song for Hwasa with upbeat instrumentals. Feel free to add more to what I comment and correct me if I miss interpreted something :)
I love Hwasa, her MVs are always so powerful. I've been reading some stuff from people's opinions, and it's like she's now basically a new 'person', Maria is her catholic/religious name and the girl who 'died' at the beginning is supposed to be Hwasa, her old self, I guess that people sort of 'killed' her with hate and such due to the scene with the pencils pointing at her etc, but now she's reborn as Maria, stronger and more powerful. The scene at the end when the members show up is meant to be that no matter who she is or in what condition, her members, which are family to her, they'll always support and be by her side

i argree on your background vocals point! Basically , I feel like background vocals and ad-libs are something that can not be missed out when you listen to Mamamoo music!
I guess today is strong women day for the K-Pop industry huh? Fist SunMi, now Hwasa. All jokes aside, MAMAMOO’s raspy voiced Ahn Heejin aka Hwasa as finally debuted as a soloist. We all know about her image inside of the group, Mamamoo’s lead vocalist and rapper; Now, we get her as an alternate person “Maria”. This MV gave me so much creepy vibes, but it was stunning at the same time! Her voice and her aura, the confidence that she is exuding and the fierceness that she is exuding is so beautiful to watch. The song felt so sad almost even though the rhythm isn't? I don't know I feel like the lyrics would have helped me understand the whole thing a lot better but from the MV it seems like there is definitely an underlying message that she is addressing here and I love it! I don't quite get the dance part that was randomly thrown in there, it felt a bit out of place in my opinion but I might get used to it! Anyway loved this song a lot and I feel like this is so much her, it fits her and her image so well! On top of that we see the rest of the members at the end which is so heart warming!
Just addressing the symbolism of the song and the MV The song itself is about the self doubt that comes from negative things we receive and the resolve to accept yourself in the way we are. (Since Maria is Hwasa's Catholic name so she's addressing herself) The MV has a lot of symbolisms. First, the scene where she's in a pool of white liquid pertains to the people's standard of skin color. Where they want her to be white than what she is. Second, the scene where she's in a dining table shows the dynamic of her work and the audience's reaction. The people were disgusted at Hwasa's product. But, she still chats with them happily without a care. And lastly, the scene with the pencils. I'm not entirely sure about this one but I think it's about her creative struggle to create more when she doesn't want to. These are all the things I can think of. I'm not entirely sure of them but we all convey the message of the song and the MV differently so this is just my own speculation.
The song is about the hate she gets but she encourages hersef. Maria is her catholic name. The cigarette scene is from a movie where the girl is liked by men, but hated but women. In her lyrics during the dining part, she asks if hating her will feed them. If you look at what the people are eating, its just a bunch of random stuff. When Hwasa was in the tub full of roses and milk, represents how in korea, having pale skin is wanted but she has more of a bronzer skin color which is why she shakes her finger no. When shes in a stray jacket,it states her mental state and how shes affected. The floating pencils represents the hate comments she gets. In the end when the rest of mamamoo appears, tells how shes made it through because of them.
This is a comment written by mari cndl and I thought it was worth sharing :) Hwasa said Maria is the crystallized tears and sweat that she shed. As soon as I saw Lia Kim's post on Instagram that this was her Choreo I could see it instantly. She and Mamamoo make such a great mix together on projects. My only upset with this song is that the beat switch-up didn't last longer, that part was hardcore and I loved it, maybe they'll release an extended version, fingers crossed .:D
Yeah, there was a story about that scissors and why MMM members came out. Well, at the scissor scene, she was trying to do something bad(?) But then MMM members came and stops her from doing it. It could mean MMM members are her safe heaven when she's down. Plus the song is somewhat directed to the antis.
the back dancer that you pointed out looks familiar to mamamoo's choreographer but its not him even tho sometimes he is mamamoo's back dancer but not this time
You should watch jyps new girl groups pre debut it just came out the group is called niziu and they are all Japanese they are gonna debut in japan and then Korea after the song is called make you happy
My sister noticed the similarity of the set between the last scene as well as the scenes where she held the scissors. We assumed it might mean that the entire video was a visualization of her internal conflict (as well as other problems), and the girls arrived at the right moment, bringing her out of her dark thoughts.

Just addressing the symbolism of the song and the MV
The song itself is about the self doubt that comes from negative things we receive and the resolve to accept yourself in the way we are. (Since Maria is Hwasa's Catholic name so she's addressing herself)
The MV has a lot of symbolisms.
Your reactions are too adorable and genuine!

oh my god, love your reactions
Choreographer for HIP and this one is Lia Kim from One Million Dance studio
Im ridiculously in love with this woman ^______^
Hwasa’s stare has reached God like status lol. It’s cool that u avoided the teasers, it’s a really good surprise
Queen is back
Girrrrl she is baaaack i ‘m screaming the helll out looooud 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😋❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hwasa 🔥🔥🔥
This is a comment written by mari cndl
and I thought it was worth sharing :)
Queen queen hwasa...
He is a choreographer but the choreography for HIP is made by a dancer really famous in Korea who is called Lia Kim
It's a hwasa video so- gOoD GOd
I DIED😂
I love you 💙 thankyou for reacting to my Queen 💙💙
I just love your reactions, you are 'Reaction king'.
Our Queen 😍
Yeah, there was a story about that scissors and why MMM members came out. Well, at the scissor scene, she was trying to do something bad(?) But then MMM members came and stops her from doing it. It could mean MMM members are her safe heaven when she's down. Plus the song is somewhat directed to the antis.
She so strong and fierce in this MV the absulte queen
*Ben's reaction sums up every MooMoo's reaction. We stan a powerful and confident Queen!*
P.S. notice me please Ben hehehe :3

I’m not in your patreon but i was curious what you think of the bside on her album LMM. The lyrics are so deep and wanted to have ur opinion on it ❤️
The mamamoo girls saved her . I thinks that’s the meaning behind that scene
Hwasa literally told the haters, 'Just WAIT TILL I GLOW UP'
"Dont do that, that's gross"
The best part 😂
THANK YOU FOR REACTING QUEEN HWASA , LOVE FROM TURKEY 🇹🇷🇹🇷❤️❤️
He is cute when he say "you are a power bro!! "😂😂😂😂😂

There's two hwasa's, black hair and red hair hwasa. Maybe the red hair hwada is her "alter ego" Maria.
