One of the greatest things about Revengeance is how Armstrong, this character who was barely even hinted at up to this point, shows up at the end despite having barely been built up and just takes complete control of the final 90 minutes of this game and ends up being the most iconic character in Revengeance as a whole. Always found that hilarious. Last minute villains are not usually this memorable or great.
@@Yuni-is-Schrodingers-Fox yeah, but even then he's just hinted at as being their boss, you don't assume he'll be any real threat. You kill jetstream sam, then speed off to stop armstrong, and then of course he's got a mech, so you think it's juat one of those fights, then you'll walk up and punch armstrong into next century. Then armstrong armstrongs, and a legend is made.
The slight humour in the final boss fight was nice, Jacks surprised face when his sword was broken, dodging a punch to the chin, which always gets hit. Having a little surprised chuckle when he doesn’t get hit, only to get hit harder and slide across the Metal Gear, his face of annoyance when he gets up, Armstrong’s enthusiastic little nod for Jack to shake his hand, then looking between his legs after Jack throws him. Everything. The slight humour combined with the awesome music made this game so fun for me.
The humor in the final boss cutscenes didn’t even feel out of place at all especially when there was already wacky stuff happening along the way in the rest of the game (the model picture easter egg, soldier who hid, Raiden not giving af wearing a sombrero, etc.)
Not necessarily a conclusion. MGS4 was more of a conclusion. This story was just to show Raiden coming to terms with who he truly is, for better or worse.
The really weird thing is they're apparently going to try and _cram a story into it_ ...yeah, into _Pachinko_ the Castlevania one is doing really good supposedly, they're bugging the hell out of Chōhei Kambayashi to write the "story" (Battle Fairy Yukikaze, Enemy is Pirate, Unbroken Arrow, graduate of Nagaoka National College of Technology) Saddest part is that means it could potentially have one of the better, more realistic MGS storylines. How irritating!
Armstrong, a boss kinda shoehorned in at the last minute ends up being one the most iconic and quotable characters I have ever seen; its genuinely amazing.
I wouldn't call it "shoehorned" seeing as it is the leadup of the entire game and test to your skills that you have learned from all the previous bosses
Armstrong is such a chad that he doesn't need to be introduced earlier in the story to make an impact, he just needs to materialize in the last act of the game to steal the show.
I wish politicians would just duke it out in trial by combat whenever international tensions get too high. Like Imagine JFK and Stalin just throwing hands to end the cold war without having to use nukes.
Imagine being such an interesting and well written character that despite only being on screen at the very end of the story you’re as synonymous with the game as the Fucking protagonist
I think there might just be more people now that know Armstrong than people who know that the protagonist is Raiden from MGS2 and not just some original character.
Probably one of the most subtle things about this song is how, throughout the game's boss fights, it lets you know you're getting to the _really good part_ when the vocals kick in... And this one has the vocals going _the whole time._ And good lord did this fight deliver.
@@emperorpalpatine4953 Same goes for the Sam fight. If he loses his sword, the song is instrumental. Beautiful how both songs' switch to vocal or instrumental is the same goddamn sword
it is very rare when the words have some meaning in a song, and not for a tick and that the music is perfectly combined with the words, there are almost no such masterpieces left
Armstrong didn't die in despair. Because in the end, things worked out just as his principles demanded. The stronger man won. The law here is decided by that individual. An individual with his own principles and conviction. A man who decided for himself what was right, played the game by his own rules, and won HIS way. Armstrong was killed by the embodiment of his own ideals, and passed satisfied that his dream of a "land of the truly free" would live on. Even if Raiden's methods would differ, even if he would "fret over every egg", he wouldn't stop fighting his OWN war.
@@returnedtomonkey8886 Quite literally, and not only Armstrong's but everyone's memes. From Monsoon to Sam they all pass over their memes to Raiden, each teaching him a valuable lesson, each making him a more whole man. Man it's weird using the word "meme" in this context.
I saw someone say that Rules Of Nature was "2013's version of Bury The Light". I was like "No bitch, Bury The Light is 20-whatever's version of Rules Of Nature".

Armstrong. The Only Video game antagonist with the most smallest screen time managed to won over millions of gamer's heart by becoming one of video game's most memorable ,relatable, badass anataognist...like ever. This is borderline impossible because an antagonist require a really big screen time just to get the character development and that feeling out of them but Platinum managed to did it with such small screen time and still managed to pull out an amazing antagonist.
Honestly, Armstrong reminded me a lot of some of the other best villains in gaming (In my opinion), Glados and Handsome Jack, he has a massive presence in his…probably 20 to 30 minutes of time in-game, counting both boss fights and cutscene appearance early on, add on…probably another 5ish minutes if you have Sam’s DLC, they managed to make a believable human character (just look at how his emotion changes when he thinks Raiden agrees with him) who has views that you as the player can actually understand, because they are just real world views taken to an extreme-degree, combine that with…probably one of the most fun but also punishing boss fights out there and you have an awesome character
I think it also became self-perpetuating because when you finally get into the game in recent times (like I did) when you finally meet him you've already been hearing about this guy for YEARS, hearing his theme, seeing memes, seeing his reputation echo through the world, and now you finally meet him face to face.
I think a contender for a grand memorable villain like Armstrong can be Handsome Jack, though he did technically have more screen time due to the echo calls I think. All in all, getting to understand a main antagonists’ motives, character, and that most have an aura of charisma around them is what makes them feel real, or too real, making them truly antagonizing
actually if you look in the lyrics in the description, I think I can make out who is saying what: 1-4: Armstrong trying to relate to Raiden, in that he is trying to carve his own path. 5-8: Raiden saying that just because you carve your own path it doesn't make it right, and at the end, they will both see this. 10: Raiden Saying that the world Armstrong sees will only be chaos for those "Fighting what they stand for." 11: Armstrong saying It has and always will be this way. 12-14: This one could actually be both, since Raiden talks of choosing to save people after his child soldier years, while Armstrong is doing this because he believes in building a new america, which he believes is shit now, but they both say they carved their paths of their own volition. 15-18: Armstrong saying that despite who wins, someone will be coming out of this changed, for better or for worse. If anyone has anything else to add, feel free too.
I read a really good theory that it's actually Jetstream Sam's, because the Lyrics reference "bloodstained sand" (Armstrongs fight took place on a runway, so it can't be there... but Sam's was in a Desert...), and the fact that the song ends when you put down Sam's sword.
This is Armstrong's point of view. The song is about someone who is coming to realize the similarities between themself and their opponent and is regretfully sorry that they're forced to fight them to the death. In the whole boss fight, and even after being defeated, Armstrong is the only one that believes they're similar in any way, at least before his death. And out of the two of them, he didn't seem like he wanted to kill Raiden as much as Raiden wanted to kill him. Plus there's the lyrics "I've carved my own path, you followed your wrath." Armstrong, in his quest to do what he thought was the right solution for America, became a senator and a very high-ranking public figure with lots of power at his disposal. This game story-wise happens because of Raiden's anger that kids are going through the same thing that he did.
If you want to and can, go play it. Awesome game, really good and thought provoking story despite being edgy af, and my god the MEMES that the game just oozes of. Awesome characters, badass battles and imagery that still stands well enough on its own, despite starting to show its age. This and much of the rest of the Metal gear games are pieces of art that needs to be preserved forever because of how well they are made. Only too bad Konami (publishers of Metal gear) does not even remotely care about the franchise as far as I know.
I just SERIOUSLY wanted Raiden to go full on Ripper mode where his body literally reaches beyond his limits, overloading his systems and just f*cking, annihilates Armstrong completely by infusing an actual lightning bolt into either his hand and or body itself and screaming out: "DON'T F*CK WITH THE RIPPER OR GET CUT!" *Cue Ripper Blade mode with lightning strikes obliterating a goverment personnel tyrant.*
“Oh, you’re approaching me?” “You’re approaching me with no fear in your eyes?” “Well then…” “Come as close as you’d like, human…” “But you’ll die trying” “Now enough talk. Hit me with your best shot!”
Kojima predicted all of this: >Trump promise to make America great again >Trump making himself a meme while he's at it >Trump won't die despite the constant bombardment from media They sure were living in 3013 Also please don't take any of this seriously, i know some people will
My favorite lines in this are: "The world has turned, so many have burned but nobody is to blame." They just feel so impactful, and you can feel the acceptance in those lines, knowing full well that it truly has to be this way.
i never heard that line but that’s so fitting ??? like bush was just cracking jokes about how iraq was unjustifiable & … these ppl will straight up never be held accountable
This is why MGR will always be the themeatic finale of the Metal Gear series, not just because it takes place at the end of the timeline because it represents everything metal gear stories are about turned up to 11.
The older this game is, the more we love it. And it’s nice to know that when you return to it, you still get crazy pleasure. What is this if not a masterpiece that, in spite of itself, won the hearts of millions of people?
@Doctah Wahwee MGR is in some ways like Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, in that the two take themselves seriously while also being both over the top and campy, however without losing focus of the semi-serious tone in the story. Plus, they both have pretty memes that are EXQUISITE
The best part is the character literally only has ONE appearance in an early part of the game and it isn't even that long before he shows up at the end and has this fight. The game is a masterpiece in more places than it has any right to and honestly deserves all the popularity it gets.
To me, this song feels like you have to mash the buttons or else you *die.* Not just game over - straight up *die.* *EDIT:* I DIDN'T KNOW THIS REALLY WAS A QTE HOLY SHIT o_o
I kept dying at that part of the fight over and over again because I couldn't have enough precision to cut the shit that was getting thrown at me while I was also singing THE BLOOD STAINED SAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNDDDSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
I feel like that part of the song deserves the most out of the vocalist. It's the unwavering and all-determined cry for hope to go on even if nothing survives the brutal bloodshed and violence of war.
Metal Gear Rising's plot is every kid's imaginary story they would make in their head while playing with toys: Badass robot cyborg ninja fights giant evil laser-shooting mechs with a cool looking robot canine while a man with comically oversized muscles tries to take over the country.
This fucking track right here, imagine if Raiden just decided "nope, I don't wanna kill you anymore. Killing is bad". His whole *_character_* is about the conflict on whether killing or not is bad, and the bossfight is so much better for it. The title is really appropriate imo.
As he said at the beginning of the game. A sword keeps another in the sheath. Sometimes, by taking a life, others can be preserved. He stayed true to that until the very end, did he not?
My personal favorite part of the song is the second set of lyrics: "I carved my own path, you followed your wrath But maybe we're both the same The world has turned, so many have burned, But nobody is to blame." It feels to me like this part encapsulates the theme of the song perfectly.
“Masterpiece” I definitely enjoyed metal gear rising so I guess it’s only me where I don’t think it’s a masterpiece Oh well happy 10 years of a great game

I love how metal gear rising was just an offshoot of the metal gear solid series, yet it also has the most badass villains and music
My favorite part of it is that Mistral was not actually wrong about raiden. Her only mistake was fighting him *first*.

@@Anon_Spartan :D? More like :] :] :] :]
The humor in the final boss cutscenes didn’t even feel out of place at all especially when there was already wacky stuff happening along the way in the rest of the game (the model picture easter egg, soldier who hid, Raiden not giving af wearing a sombrero, etc.)

The Only Video game antagonist with the most smallest screen time
managed to won over millions of gamer's heart by becoming one of video game's most memorable ,relatable, badass anataognist...like ever.
This is borderline impossible because an antagonist require a really big screen time just to get the character development and that feeling out of them but Platinum managed to did it with such small screen time and still managed to pull out an amazing antagonist.
Thats Senator Armstrong for ya! He got Charisma, ideals and intentions that we can understand. And most of all....
*NANOMACHINES SON!*
Honestly, Armstrong reminded me a lot of some of the other best villains in gaming (In my opinion), Glados and Handsome Jack, he has a massive presence in his…probably 20 to 30 minutes of time in-game, counting both boss fights and cutscene appearance early on, add on…probably another 5ish minutes if you have Sam’s DLC, they managed to make a believable human character (just look at how his emotion changes when he thinks Raiden agrees with him) who has views that you as the player can actually understand, because they are just real world views taken to an extreme-degree, combine that with…probably one of the most fun but also punishing boss fights out there and you have an awesome character
vaas from far cry 3 had less time, only a couple of minutes and he is like the most recognized villain from any video game
I always turn on this in my headphones when i walk downstairs in the night, so when a ghost would attack me, i'd be prepared to beat its ass up.

This song can be either from Armstrong or Raiden's point of view. It's so good.
Rothbart24 At some points I think it's about the two of them talking to each other. Some lines sound like a conversation.
actually if you look in the lyrics in the description, I think I can make out who is saying what:
1-4: Armstrong trying to relate to Raiden, in that he is trying to carve his own path.
5-8: Raiden saying that just because you carve your own path it doesn't make it right, and at the end, they will both see this.
10: Raiden Saying that the world Armstrong sees will only be chaos for those "Fighting what they stand for."
11: Armstrong saying It has and always will be this way.
I'm pretty sure it's Jetstream Sam's. The song picks up when Bladewolf returns with his sword.
Plus there's the lyrics "I've carved my own path, you followed your wrath."
Armstrong, in his quest to do what he thought was the right solution for America, became a senator and a very high-ranking public figure with lots of power at his disposal.
This game story-wise happens because of Raiden's anger that kids are going through the same thing that he did.

My personal favorite part of the song is the second set of lyrics:
"I carved my own path, you followed your wrath
But maybe we're both the same
The world has turned, so many have burned,
But nobody is to blame."
It feels to me like this part encapsulates the theme of the song perfectly.
Topped with the drums on that part, it's easily my favorite part of the song
@@diegoore4171 Ok, but whats the fuckin reason to? I dont like all games of the world y know
@@ChillOki but I want this game to be popular and everywhere else
@@iama_user I don't know how to
This came up right when I got to that part
Bro just came out of nowhere and became the most notorious game villain ever
Almost 10 years since this masterpiece of a game launched
Only took 9 years for it to get mainstream attention
@@boyeri3558ive bought it in 2022 but ive seen many memes through the years this game has always lived through brithing beautiful memes
I can't even play it cuz it's fucking region locked and unavailable here
“Masterpiece” I definitely enjoyed metal gear rising so I guess it’s only me where I don’t think it’s a masterpiece
Oh well happy 10 years of a great game

"My source, is that I made it the fuck up!"
It amazes me how they introduced Armstrong in the very last part of the game but still managed to make him at least one of the best final bosses of the century
I agree with you
@@Sparkizinho great!
He got an appearance before that too even tho it was just a few seconds long
Senator armstrong reminds me of DIO from JoJo's he had very little screen time in his part but he's one of the most iconic manga/anime villains
@@ninjasaurio6611 he was in all of part 1 before though
Still a masterpiece until now , 14/10/2024

heh heh
game fever 1950 The power of memes.
Fuckin dead! LMFAO
Ohh crap. And that's how a new meme was born
The meme has been alive...Since the game was first released.
It's funny how a clip from a cyborg punching the hell out of a buffed senator at lightning speed made me take interest and play the game
*It was all worth it in the end*
Relatable. But in the end it was more inspirational then it was funny
literally the exact same circumstance as me
God I tried to play this game but it crashes so frequently
exactly how i got interested in the game
