- If you ever fancied buying an Urwerk UR-202 watch but didn’t want to spend $250,000, then your time has come, because Chinese brand Atowak has released a cheap alternative that is, surprisingly, shockingly good!

The engineering is certainly impressive, but I can’t say I’ve ever wanted to wear a bathroom scale on my wrist.
It’s a hideous timepiece for sure.
Truly shocking to look at.
Ouch savage
Lol never saw it from that perspective until I read your comment
Yeah for sure they really missed the design on this
I have this Atowak Cobra in Desert Brown (gunmetal gray case with both brown leather and gunmetal stainless steel bands) and absolutely love it. Because of their five and six figure entry points, Urwerk will forever be a desired, favorite and unfortunately grail watch brand for me.
Wandering hours is my favorite avant-garde, non-conventional automatic movement and i for one am glad that micro brands like Atowak, Phantasos, and Xeric are making them at an affordable price for us mere mortals!
Thanks for doing this video on the Cobra as well as Atowak’s Ettore wandering hour model a few months back. I have both and they really are well made watches…with the Cobra taking it up a notch or two! 👍🏽
Do you plan on getting it serviced? I'm curious to know how difficult it would be to find a watchmaker willing to service this watch. Also, the price they'd do it for.
Nothing is impossible, you can totally get a Urwerk
As soon as AliExpress has this for $99.99 (after coupon), I am all over it!
:-) 119.- for the „carbon“ version
$1.99 with a $12 shipping charge
🤣
125 for watch plus strap swap and cone numbers mod kit
As a watch it seems incredibly impractical, as an engineering statement it is spectacular.
I love this brand, they’re not scared to take risk! Also their watches are well constructed!
Been burnt by China 2 times in one week.
Awesome watch, absolutely love it. Thanks for taking the time to showcase it to us. Think I'll try and get my greedy little mitts on one too. Looks like one of the bargains to come our way in 2022 . Looks like there are absolute bargains to be had out there in the watch world, if we only take time to search them out carefully . Thanks so much again for getting your hands on one and bringing it our way to show us, absolutely brilliant thanks . 😍.
Handled, reviewed and worked on many Chinese watches and the quality is getting very good with some brands. Some now offering Sellita SW200-1 movements and case finishes that are stunning.
I’ve said for a long time that all you need is good cnc machines now to make anything anywhere. The Chinese, like it or not, are the ones to watch in the coming years.
Which brands are you referring too specifically? San Martin and Helmdallr of aliexpress I would guess?
@@chrisoconnor3119 San Martin, Sea-Gull which I have serviced a few different ones now. Also Phoibos.
End of the day quality comes from precise machining and with modern machining this is much easier achieved no matter where you are in the world.
I have that watch , got it at 1450€ & it is real well made !
See, this is proof for the existence of Interesting timepieces in the low budget area
So, Andrew, if put one on your desk next to your Hamilton Railway Special with the crystal caseback, you can be mesmerized by the two movements and now know the time as well. 😊
have to appreciate the 2:10 position for showing off the watch, a nice touch
I have three Atowak watches and they are all interesting and fun. I don't wear them anywhere near as much as my watches from the big names (Rolex, JLC etc), but they do make a great talking point. Everyone has seen a Rolex Explorer II or Datejust, but not a watch with wandering hours (the proper description for this type).
I'd love to have a shelf clock version of this
I’m not a fan of Urwerk’s signature aesthetic and this Chinese version leaves me equally unimpressed.
Thanks for the heads up. Always envied the Uwerk - purchased a Devon Tread 2 as I love unique and unusual time pieces. Just placed my order for the silver version. Great review.
First "affordable" watch you've done I'm genuinely interested in buying! Thought it was going to be an electric quartz and then you showed the balance spring. "Inadvertent desk toy mode" 🤣
Thank you for covering content like this. I absolutely love it.
Just remember the Swiss established themselves as watchmakers by ripping off US and British watches.
Thank you for the pause for laughter after ‘one in the back and two in the front’ 😂
Great watch? The more conservatively designed Phantasos Triclops does the same for 1200 dollars less. I've had mine since August and its still going strong.
Great watch! 😁 not ?
Very impressive! I probably wouldn’t buy one, but, still give credit where credit is due.
To me this is a fashion watch. Loud, bold, perhaps fun for some, accessible, cheaply made, etc but still not cheap at £2k
Not for me but I can understand the appeal. If they weren’t copying urwerk, would that be better or worse? I’m not sure
Absolutely want to see more. I was communicating with a nice girl from China about some copies and she told me a lot about how they are now almost better than real deal. I asked her but why wouldn’t you make some new watches and she just said, it is easier to just make copies which is sad. I think if you have the capabilities you should at least try. Another watch manufacturer told me to make a good “swiss” made in China with real swiss movement is around $500-$600 with minimum of 300 watches and you get to design it yourself too
Could you tell me the contact of these manufacturers pls?
Can you put a link in the description where we can get the Chinese version? Thanks
The real question is whi paid 250k for such a hideous piece
Bad taste has no upper limits
Moooooooore pls pls pls... I hear people saying Cinese stuff has nothing to do with horology history... Wake up they are making now new industrial horology industry... As painful as it may sound to a 55 yearsold man like me, grown in the 90s reading watches magazines and dreaming the day I would have made enough money to by a Rolex Air King, now I can have a decento watch schaped as one for 69 euros (on the way to my home as I write this note)... That is the new horology history... And by the way this opens up to even more unexpected scenaries if this is your hobby... I bought a kit of tools for 19,99 euro and soon I'll staeto messing with my below 100 euro Cineae stuff... I'll be modding or composing some little monsters of MY choice! This is horologically more than I've ever dreamt in the 90s... And without getting bankrupt... Ha! Will anyone ever dare to mod his/her real Air King worth 8000 euro to get a more pwrsonal time reading experience?!? Lorenzo from Italy...
Mispells are because I have huge fingers and small keybord 😊
Really like your Channel. I am used to lusting after the gorgeous watches you show , but, this one is a definate pass reguardless of price.
Chinese watch making catching up with Chinese everything else. A real stunner.
This is the same as taking Toyota kitcar as a alternative for a Ferrari.
Modern manufacturing and 3d modeling has made watch manufacturing so much less expensive. Just because you choose to do something by hand that can be done by a machine doesn't justify charging more money. Good Design is still the thing you can't fake.
It seems that the Wandering Hour complication is really getting mainstream! We had the Three Kings last year, then the Phantasos Triclops. The Wanderer, with a Selita movement is due to ship through KS early 2023, one from Dwiss and also this Atowak. And AP just announced their Star Wheel too.
Interesting piece to be sure. However... I'm pretty sure I won't be sending China any more of my money than I absolutely have to.
Give the the Chinese 250k and watch what masterpieces they'll make
Question is... will you buy one of these since you should be able to afford it?
It's an odd cliche that most people look down on anything made in China, but they are the manufacturer to the world (albeit not worrying too much about patents!). I went to China to get an item made for my company that would match a market leader - they made a better product for a third of the price...
You could play a drinking game for every time he says $250,000
Nice watch with a proven movement, respect when respect is due
As the sweatshop kids grow, so do their skills
I think people confuse technical cost of producing a certain watch, with the mark up due to Brand strength. Expensive is not always difficult or costly to produce.
That thumbnail. What has Niko done to this channel
It's definately shocking.
That is sooooo cool. I really like it.
I would like to see presentations of watches like this one.
Are these fringe Chinese watches reliable though?
So it is now possible to buy a hideous and wildly impractical watch at a price far below that of a Ferrari? Somehow I fail to be impressed.
And theres this brand called Seven Friday here....with designs much like urwerk....for mere dollars.
The chiming Christopher Ward was an achievement because it represented true innovation - and all the more impressive at its price point. In contrast, this is just physical plagiarism. There might be some real manufacturing prowess displayed here, but that's overshadowed by blatant unoriginality.
Nice. Interesting. Just checked their prices Taobao.
Wow nice watch looks unique very different and good video.
Next the Chinese need to work on their branding and naming conventions. This is not my taste in watches, however, the ability to copy and manufacture such delicate and sophisticated engineering is impressive.
So what happens to design and concept copyrights?
Is this something that may end up in court?
As you say if they put as much effort into their own watches and innovate rather than making fakes what new concepts could be achieved?
That’s not a replica. It’s more of a homage. If it was illegal half of the watch industry would be dead.
Definitely wanna see more like this
I've considered buying this for a long time
It looks like a bathroom scale
I can think of many watch purchases far more worthy of my £2000 than a Chinese made rip off that looks like a bathroom scale. Hard no from me.
It's a no-brainer. Who would possibly refuse to buy such a piece, especially from those serving as the current exemplars for so much other "cool stuff" happening? Enjoy your watch.
Make a few color changes and this will look so steampunk.
Gotta buy it before it is sold out again.
It will never get sold out. It's China.
Ooni koda can now tell time! 🙀
It's a bit like generic drugs being cheaper than the original, because the original cost $1 billion to develop whereas the generic didn't do the hard work.
Greetings from St George Utah 👋Wow I'm speechless, seriously incredible watch, I think is smart move from the Chinese, now I can own one, with paying a higher price, thank you for taking the time to bring us this impressive Brand, now is possible..until next time..
Waiting to buy this from Wish at $2 with free shipping in 2030
What about seconds?
Pagani Design will knock these out for $50 on Black Friday '23.
Still prefer the phantasos to this...more wearable size for the mass ppl i guess
they couldnt have left the carbon fiber at home?
Where would you find a watchmaker that's willing to service this movement? I have more "unserviceable" watches than ones that are. It's not that they're unserviceable, it's just that no watchmaker around me is willing to work on a watch that costs less than $3k. I have to service them myself
Funny W&Co keeps talking about being "1% of the price" as if price is the reason you would want a Urwerk. Any watch over 500 dollars, is not about the price anymore. As this being a "testament of Chinese technology" - as with everything else, copying is not a testament of anything.
I'm not against Chinese watches per se but this thing is horrible.
WOW , very nice >>>>> Thank you
Its been around a year since the Chinese figured out how to make the tips for ballpoint pens.
I'M GETTING IT NEXT YEAR IT'LL BE MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO ME.
Reading the comments I can't help but to feel that most people are hating this watch because it is really special but with low price!
And This fact destroy the exclusivity sense that thay like to feel when paying a 250000 dollar for a similar wathch
It's very cool, no I wouldn't wear one, yes Chinese watches are coming into their own, and I love your videos.
Not impressed by the finishing and don’t love the design of the case. Not interested in Chinese watches either but the way it displays the time is neat
What’s really shocking is the Chinese are bypassing concept, design and engineering and focus primarily on materials and production. I don’t think I heard a word from the narrator about stealing,
Can't imagine taking this one to my local watchmaker if something goes wrong.. 😄
Love the weird and wonderful watches now than just another relax video
That movement is a Miyota 9015! Nice module tho...
You are mistaken. It is a modified 9039. Regards, WR4K
@@watchreviews4k yes ok, I meant that as one of the 90xx series. The base is the same between the time/date 9015 and the nodate 9039.
You think it should read left to right, but that's because you forget that many cultures don't read left to right. Some are top to bottom, others right to left.
Linguistic differences aren’t a viable explanation here. Modern Chinese is almost entirely left to right, top to bottom (i.e. the same as European languages) as well. It _can_ be written top to bottom, right to left, but this traditional direction is incredibly rare nowadays, basically only reserved for special uses like artistic cursive writing. And as mentioned in the video, the Urwerk this is mimicking was right to left as well, and that’s a Swiss watch made for a Western market.
Tempting, I need to get one
Nice watch
Then i wonder if i can wait a decade to get a zeitwerk at a fraction of the price haha
Love it ,👍
Please show more i don't have $250,000
Very interesting watch and very easy to read. Sits too high to wear for me but a desk top clock would be nice! 1,900 for a desk top clocks a bit steep but as you mention it’s still a fraction of the cost.
No appeal from a Chinese watch.
Regardless if China gives a damn about patents, when I asked at the Urwerk atelier in Geneve if they do hold a patent on their movement, the answer was that they are not sure...what a bummer from such clever and creative minds.
Gorilla also has an identical movement on the Drift Miracle MK2. Made in Switzerland and for sale at 4 300 usd Better than China's?
I want one
Very cool
Those who laugh it's a bathroom scale, urwerk 202 is almost with the same design and it's selling in 6 digits.. lol.. obviously we know watches alot of time tend to overpriced anyway
I have my limits for how much I'd spend on a watch. This one is overly expensive for even any normal person who can afford one. Even if I could spend a few hundred thousand for a watch, I would not! I would rather put the money in to a home, or toward a very high end SUV. My limit for a decent watch would be in the range of $10K or so. In fact for very accurate time keeping there are decent quartz watches as like the high end of Casio, Citizen, Seiko, and etc. These are not mechanical, are very shock resistant, require very little maintenance, and will keep within a few seconds a month.
But it's the mechanical ones we lust for.
Wow unik jamnya bro
love it!
I appreciate the work. I just bought a IWC Portugieser, it looks like a watch. I think I’m going to stick with watches that look like watches. Thanks Andrew
How much did it cost Portuguese IWC
Really nice
I'll always love the engineering in watches, but this is just an ugly watch. I'll stick with my timex lol
Is the brand name pronounced "At Uhrwerk"? 😁
Like their cars their watches keep improving
PURE AWESOME
a bit similar to the cheaper Xeric wandering hour watches
