  • Hello and welcome back. This time, it's a very brief look at how one of my wardrobe shelves that hold some Mod and Superstar era boxed dolls looks today. Here you will see Beauty Secrets Barbie and Christie, Julia, Twiggy, Walk Lively Barbie and the Superstar dolls themselves among others. This was inspired by the Magic Curl Barbie that is the latest addition to those shelves... they are getting a bit crowded now!!! Also please vote below for which doll you would like to see deboxed from that bottom shelf of 80's beauties. And please remember to like, comment, share and subscribe to my channel!

Beautiful display! Ive been OBSESSED with special editions/gift sets of dolls.
I have a MIB Twirly Curls Gift Set with the different dress and sparkly jumpsuit! And just recently got a MIB Beauty Secrets Pretty Reflections set. She displays so beautifully with the pink mirror ❤
My holy grail though is the Special Edition Kissing Barbie with the yellow dress! I wanna find her so bad but shes so rare 🥺

I actually got the 'Pretty Reflections' Beauty Secrets Barbie edition for my 10th birthday back in 1980!!! I wish I still had that three-way mirror. I would love to see yours! I would also LOVE to get her again, and that Kissing Barbie set (and even the Twirly Curls one you have!) some day!!!

Thanks so much, Deany! 😘 Did you like how I used one of the tracks from the Superstar stage show for the music? 😜

@@DeanReen: It's the record from the Superstar Stage Show! There's also a classic ballet track (for Ballerina Barbie!) and even a 'disco' track (though 'disco' is kinda stretching it! LOL....) 'Moving On' which was the track I used, was the track for when you hold 'fashion shows' on the stage. (Even though it is so pink and gaudy, I WANT it now!!!! LOL) If you want the MP3 I can DM you! Let me know. 😘

I vote the one with the most box damage.😉I know I will likely be the lone voice of dissent here. But... if everyone unboxes these now beautifully mint vintage dolls, future generations won't have boxed dolls to enjoy. As loose dolls are cheaper to get both locally or on eBay, why not just leave the dolls in the box with the obvious exception if it's going to ruin them due to internal batteries, or jewelry corrosion. Then display and play with the loose dolls so there can be more in box ones that survive. The reason I say this isn't because I prefer in box dolls. I don't, and I actually have way more loose dolls in my collection. I have lucked into a few boxed vintage and they stay boxed with a loose "display" doll of it in front that I can "play" with. So there you get the best of both worlds without destroying anything. Also your boxed dolls can retain their value, which can be very nice should you ever NEED to sell them for the most money.
With a doll in the box you get the FULL retro feeling of the artwork, the lettering and style of the times surrounding the doll. It's a perfect little time capsule that displays beautifully on a shelf, and we are literally destroying mint examples of that. And once they're gone, you might get a reproduction, but that original is never going to be made again. To me it's the same as just opening a store display that is worth hundreds and ripping out the dolls to just put them on the shelf. No one would do that, because the store displays are so rare. And what makes it cool to look at, is it's time capsule quality like the vintage mod doll store displays that are so pretty and rare. Once it's deboxed it's changed forever. To harken to "It's a Wonderful Life," and Zuzu's petals, you can't "paste it" and make it new again. 🌸

I've actually done just what you suggested with lots of dolls! That Beauty Secrets you see there was actually a convention gift for the first Barbie convention ever back in New York in 1980 and those Superstars and that Kissing Barbie are staying in their boxes and are never gonna be deboxed as I have loose ones to dress and display (and you can probably see them on my Instagram channel!) Same with that Julia as the box was so perfect that I got another one with a damaged box to make a deboxing video out of. There are others like the Golden Dream Barbie there, that I have deboxed but have put back in there with all her twist ties, paperwork and accessories, as the box is the tab design that is easy to reopen and close without any damage. But as you also said, sometimes it's actually necessary to de-box as degradation may happen over time with some. I had a NRFB doll once that was quite valuable but her limbs were actually MELTING into her plastic backing, and I just got her out in time before she fused onto the backing and it leached onto her limbs! So it is definitely a case-by-case basis. But I almost always tend to go for damaged box (or already opened) dolls anyway if I am tending to debox.
