So you carry a big heavy bayonet (1.25 pounds) and huge knife (0.7lb for just the knife), neither of which you are likely to use, but a pistol takes up too much space and weight? Not really being consistent imo. A glock 19 with 16 rds loaded weighs 1.7 lbs. Add a little pocket knife, and you just replaced your junk metal for something useful without increasing the weight. In a civilian role, pistols are a must. Even if you just want to blend in when getting some food or something. You can hide your gear somewhere and walk into town. As a civilian you have no backup, no-one is going to come help you.
thanks for sharing your opinion. im not carrying a bayonet AND a huge knife. The bayonet is the knife. This rig isnt really set up for me for the purpose of going into town, blending in, and collecting food. I dont think anyone can have a setup that is perfect for every cicumstance. I have a seperate deal for those kinds of things and if i did intend on doing that....yup id carry a pistol and a pack with maybe some other clothes to change into. There is noone to come and help you...unless you DO have people to come and help you. Once again....thanks for sharing your thoughts, these are just my personal opinions and responses to the points that you make....which are all good ones depending on the situation Thanks for wachn and I hope you have a great day! 🙂
@@ModernFrontiersman I know, we don't all have to agree on everything, and everyone has different circumstances and expectations. Thanks for making these videos, I always enjoy watching them.
If going out in SHTF alone for whatever reason I'd run with a pistol. One gun just doesn't seem like enough but with a group I understand why you wouldn't want the extra weight.
it was hard to search a video talking about this it occurred to me when i was thinking about how in ww1 only officers and tank crews had them and thought to myself instead of a pistol and its mags you could fit like 4 more rifle mags that you are way more likely to actually use. id def say bring a couple common replacement parts because you need your 1 gun functional. im right at home with an ak and a machete lol
You are spot on with your setup minus the pistol. I was listening to the Vigilance Elite podcast with Rob O'Neil and he talked about their setup for the bin laden raid. There was a junior member of the Seal platoon that was packing a pistol along with the main gear for the mission into Pakistan. O'Neil told the young man that he wouldn't need it because it was adding weight to his load out and the chances he would need to use it were slim. Anyway stay blessed! Thank you for your content.
Apples to oranges, this is a long range solo civilian set up. And a pistol is a must as a civilian, you can stash your gear and carry concealed if needed.
Dude, u are talking about elite spec ops with top gear, top training, top oversight, top teammates that have been training together, etc… we talking about civilians with or without training. Everyone thinks they are spec ops guys. SHTF would not be pretty and a lot of people have all these fantasies that they be doing all this stuff, especially kicking in doors. That is not reality.
Completely agree. I run ALICE (favorite rig) and the only reason I have a pistol on it is for range fun. Other than that, I'd swap it out with more ammo and thats the great thing about that rig, it is soo adaptable. And its nice to see a bayonet, people seem to not understand infantry roles and how important a fixed bayonet is for defensive positions. Keep up the great work!
I have seen videos espousing the carrying of a paint can opener to extract a stuck case from the chamber. Or there could be a broken bolt, or a squib load, or the rifle could take a hit making it inoperable, or a popped primer could jam the trigger group. I have never seen any of these, but if I did, I would want a secondary firearm. That's why I carry a pistol with two extra mags. Like you say though, do what you feel comfortable with. 👍
I carry my pistol all the time working around the farm. If I needed to do a patrol I'd grab my rifle. Yes I carried a pistol in the military, but I was a Corpsman.
I have an ALICE LBE rig made up of two LC-2 M-16 pouches, an M-1939 Pistol Belt, a LC-2 Y Strap, an M-61 Field Pack (Butt Pack), a LC-2 Canteen carrier with canteen and cup, an LC-Arctic Canteen Carrier with canteen, cup, cup lid, canteen stove, a spoon and fork (this is my mess kit.) On the belt I also have am M-1912 Holster for an M-1911 and a KaBar US Army combat knife. On the Y straps I have an M-56 First Aid/ Compass Pouch with a pressure bandage and an LC-2 First Aid/ Compass Pouch with a Lensatic Compass: (I use either the tritium or the older phosphorescent.) I am shopping for another LC-2 magazine pouch to make an IFAK in.
grunt logic, keep it coming. I grew up hearing very similiar advice from my Dad who was with 1/4 in Vietnam. (I was fortunate enough to be in the 5900 field and did not have to deal with "all that").. love your vids bro.
I never knew about troops not being issued pistols in certain situations. I always assumed everyone got a pistol. Makes perfect sense, though. When I throw on my chest rig, there’s no room on my belt for a pistol. I have to use one of those tactical holsters attached to my leg. Makes me feel like I’m working with a deformed leg. I always felt the pistol was essential gear in the event that my rifle malfunctioned. Your explanation makes perfect sense. Thank you!!!
i did two tours to Fallujah as a rifleman in the USMC. none of us had a side arm beside the platoon SGT. and our LT. most of the time you would have to be on a crew-served weapon to get one. maybe the Army issues them to more of their folks?
Just now seeing this video. I think bringing a handgun is both a personal decision and a mission dependent item that has to be considered before u step off. 90% i’ll bring a handgun in some capacity bc most of the time i’m either by myself or small squad up to like 4 other dudes and a handgun is just another versatile tool to have just like a multi tool or etc.
I was never a fan of not having a pistol in the Marines until I made SGT. Personally, I think everyone should carry a rifle and pistol (Glock 19x). I’ve had and or seen Rifles go down and I want something available to use if needed until I can get to another rifle and or fix mine.
Figured those were the reasons, basically the same exact ones as mine. Ill carry a pistol around with me but it goes against philosophy of use for most set ups/situations I'd most likely encounter should stuff go sideways. I ain't breaching or doing tunnel rat shit so a 16" AR is plenty small (actually with where I'm currently at a 338 lapua magnum would be better suited to the terrain lol).
I've noticed sometimes if I go back and listen to a video of yours again, sometimes my "like" will be gone from the video, but not comments I've "thumbs upped." maybe it's just me, but heads up.
In my opinion, having a pistol is a must. If you are trying to be a gray man, you can conceal a pistol. Just because US forces don’t give their soldiers pistols doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea. I have a feeling that is more about the budget / money than anything. I would prefer having that insurance in case something goes wrong with my long gun. No matter what happens. I will have my Glock 19 on me at all times.
When I think of pistols I think of discretion. Going into an urban environment occupied by an enemy and you need to blend in. Every occupying force wants to maintain control of the people of the land their occupying. Not eliminate them. You being a service member should know all about this. If that should ever happen here, there are times where you will need to appear as one of the sheep to get close to the occupying enemy and plant a nice bomb right up their ass. lol

As I learned from AIT (Camp Geiger), ounces equals pounds and pounds equals pain.
Pounds equal pain

Indeed would swap the y-strap with an H-strap ( I prefer the M-1967 ). Otherwise great setup.

Dump the e tool and leave the pistol at home too. If your going to fight then carry more AR ammo where the e tool is.
Wrong
