This has been one of the most exciting and talented NPC seasons iv seen in many many years, I just can’t figure out how NZRU can make the games more appealing to the fans. The quality of rugby has been amazing yet still nobody shows any interest. Hopefully they come up with some master plan as to how to compete with rugby league and fill seats because it truly does deserve to be thriving
Rugby has always been a very pretentious game. Not just in its rules, but also its attitude toward the players and fans etc (I played first 15 and for New Lynn Suburbs with Bryce Heem from Auckland team) and Rugby League was always looked down on by Rugby enthusiasts etc. Now Rugby is reaping what it sowed for so long
this was a shocking refereeing display. Mataele "knock-on" should have at least been a penalty - according to modern standards should be a yellow card. That last score was no way a try. Attempted decapitations went unpenalised. Shocking
Auckland did a deliberate knocked down which only a penalty was given, should have been a card, Very high upright tackle by Auckland not carded as well. Multiple times Auckland were well and truly offside but no penalty. Slowing the ball down, in from the side at ruck time illegal and not penalty.
Yes, these terrains are good quality in NZ. What happened to NZ roundball rugby A fsvourite in South Island. Catches on in north Island .some Aussie interest. The best rugby terrains. Soccer can benefit so much.
That’s the big issue with referees in the current game- there’s no repocussions for them when they have a bad performance. He will be back refereeing the next day as usual and his bad decisions will be forgotten. There’s no body to review them And punish them for any wrongdoing (like the players have to go through)
How many forward passes were missed by the referee. Two for Aucklands Try(s). Clear forward transfers. The game seems far too fast for many referees. That tackle that nearly took off Canterburys winger should have been a card at the very least. Canterbury were very unclinical. They should have comfortably won by 20+ points.
That ref didn't want to penalised anything from either side - that last Auckland try - had a definite forward pass inside a few moments before - I think it's Ireland maybe that does a a lot of that type of passing - most more borderline in the forwards - Hopefully at WC refs will set tone early in games - eg Boks getting panalised in one game for marginal mucking around in rucks - stops the unfair crap - where every ruck - that's just so close to a penalty but not - if it happens 20 times in a game - then that's 50% poor ball and 3 unfair turnovers or knock-ons - That's what I like about Super they clamp down over the season on teams doing marginal stuff - also successful teams come under scrutiny - Using Boks again - Boks pretending to jump for ball mainly to harass catcher and send 2 players behind to collect split ball - has been largely stopped - I'm predicting Boks vs ABs final
Ref tried so hard to gift auckland this game, forward passes, high tackles (like full on clothesline) and that last clear knock on. Happy canterbury got the win but that was terrible officiating
When that little Canterbury player got his head taken off by a close line tackle and no yellow card. Had he lost it and didn't score it would've been a double blast penalty try and yellow card.
NZRU are useless they don’t market anything or make anything happen for the game, they aren’t trying to get new fans they are just expecting people who already know rugby to just turn up even when the games aren’t advertised
@@limsrusill that theory doesn’t make sense, look at the warriors season. Every single home game was absolutely jam packed with 10,S of thousands of fans having a full on party. It’s nothing to do with the money otherwise the warriors would have had empty stadiums too
@@limsrusill NPC games aren’t boring? There’s always a ton of tries and action, plus the teams are more evenly matched and makes it exciting knowing that any team could win. The talent in the games this years been super impressive. Did you watch the Wellington Waikato final today? You can’t tell me that watching a team throw everything they have for 38 phases straight in the last play of the game to win in the dying seconds isn’t entertaining? Have you ever in your life seen any team hold someone out on the try line for 38 phases in a row?? If that doesn’t entertain you then your just being ridiculous
Terrible decision awarding the last try. Clear separation between ball and hand before ball made contact with ground over the line; Knock-on, all day and night long. Well done Saders👍.
@@firstfiverugbypoor advertisement is a big issue! I would have gone to this game but didn’t say anything about it until an hour after kick off last night 🤷🏽♂️ they seem to be just hoping people already know and not trying to bring in new fans
Clearly separate between player and ball for Auckland's last try, shouldn't have been given. Anyway Number 14 for Auckland' should have been red card for the illegal swinging high arm tackle on Blair Murray. Try was given but no card, what a disgrace from the ref, hope he is permanently fired from refereeing
I think this is why all blacks have terrible discipline As the npc and super rugby refs are way to player friendly with yellow cards and what not I get they don’t want to ruin the spectator but this leniency is creeping up to the top level Either world rugby adapts our way and spots dishing so many cards or we adapt to world rugby standard but having two standards of refs is not helping our top game
Iv always thought the same thing, the players are getting too comfortable and give away penalties on purpose to stop tries or kill momentum in key moments because they know they won’t get punished . Giving away a penalty instead of conceding points. Tough one to fix though isn’t it? Like u say, become strict to stop the cheating and the game becomes punishing to watch. Or let them do what they want and get away with it but potentially ruin the fairness of the game
@@MatW4606 I honestly prefer the way nz refs the games to not ruin the game It’s just impossible for teams to cope with a man down especially during red cards I’d advocate for lesser punishment on the field but harsher punishment off the field such as longer suspension so this philosophy your punishing the player not the team Head high tackles should just be penalties played on report and mandatory 4 games suspension, but the suspension keeps creeping up if it’s a serial offender like Owen Farrell so if he’s suspended again for high tackles within 6 months of his first suspension the mandatory suspension period creeps up to 6 games as he obviously didn’t learn his lesson Also the TMO is not to get involved on any infringement the refs miss unless it’s a try scoring situation so any missed high tackles or neck rolls the referee misses too bad but the TMO can place those incidents on report and after the game TMO are to send a report to teams and coaches which players they put on report for the judiciary system to hand out suspension accordingly This will hopefully speed up the modern game with less whistle on the mouth and reassure fans that when it comes to player safety whatever the infringement refs miss the TMO will pick up and ensure suspensions will handed out accordingly I originally thought this was supposed to be the point of TMO not this constantly buzzing in the refs ears lol
Godd. Match to watch , however the referee gave the worst performance I have seen for years. This pretend official missed multiple headshots and no arm tackles. Hopefully no other game has to have him officiate.
If that is the best we can offer for reffing in this country rugby is stuffed. That was disgusting! Players off their feet constantly. Cards? Forward passes.
Thanks Canterbury for beating Auckland after they took out one of our players out to score the winning try last week which should have been a penalty from a grateful Taniwhas supporter Auckland are mud.see you next year.😂
That last try by Lam was a clear knock on. Anyway, the ref was mid for both teams...
The rules are what the ref says they are on the day.

Fabulous rugby, marred by 3 high tackles.
Auckland's Kicking really let them down.
Great game and great advert for provincial rugby. Let's not get distracted by the referee - He'll not be given any more NPC games this season.

I’d advocate for lesser punishment on the field but harsher punishment off the field such as longer suspension so this philosophy your punishing the player not the team
Head high tackles should just be penalties played on report and mandatory 4 games suspension, but the suspension keeps creeping up if it’s a serial offender like Owen Farrell so if he’s suspended again for high tackles within 6 months of his first suspension the mandatory suspension period creeps up to 6 games as he obviously didn’t learn his lesson
Also the TMO is not to get involved on any infringement the refs miss unless it’s a try scoring situation so any missed high tackles or neck rolls the referee misses too bad but the TMO can place those incidents on report and after the game TMO are to send a report to teams and coaches which players they put on report for the judiciary system to hand out suspension accordingly
This will hopefully speed up the modern game with less whistle on the mouth and reassure fans that when it comes to player safety whatever the infringement refs miss the TMO will pick up and ensure suspensions will handed out accordingly
I originally thought this was supposed to be the point of TMO not this constantly buzzing in the refs ears lol
