I live on the southern oregon coast and our chanterelles dont come out until October. We dont get rain till then, usually to bring them on. And our chanterelles grow under fir trees. We dont have oaks here. They never grow under alders or maples. They really won't grow under cedars. We have them on our property. I have canned them. I've dried them in pieces. I have grown them after dry into a powder. The powder can be added to soups, gravies, etc. That is my favorite way. So fun to go out hunting and picking them. One year we got 60 gallons of them. That was an awesome year.
Absolutely love videos like these, it reminds me how peaceful nature is and how nice it is to just be unplugged from life for a bit. I'm hoping life is starting to slow down a bit so hopefully can get back to at least going for walks in the park again 🤞🤞
Thank you for these. They appease my curiosity. I've always wanted to learn how to properly identify mushrooms, but I don't actually like eating them enough to find it worth the risk of misidentifying...or the work of actually taking a class. So this nicely satisfies my want-to-know obsession (I basically want to know everything about everything, but that darn reality keeps intruding and telling me that's it's impossible. I refuse to believe its negativity.)
The number of times I had audible gasps and "oooh" and "ahhh"s in this video would be embarrassing if I wasn't just sitting in front of a bunch of goats 😂 thanks so much for sharing!!!
I love all the foraging videos. I like the idea of foraging but I'm always concerned I'll grab the wrong kind and make everyone sick. It's so awesome you have Will to help identify all the tasty snacks!
Oh honey you’re in Gods Supermarket! What I’d give to forage for shrooms!!! I’m not brave enough at this point in my life….we have woods on both sides and in back of us…..I’m 75…there are copperheads and all sorts of nasty things….But….what I’d give to find some of what you and Will are finding! God love you both! (And Miah and all your kidlets!) You’re my hero! I’m just to frikkin old to get into all the things I would have loved earlier in my life…..dang, being old sucks!!! Love you and your family…..and Will! ❤❤❤
Jess, this is just so awesome, thanks for sharing! I have also been learning about mushrooms over this past year and just purchased some spores that I'm going to put in some wood mulch, as well as learning about the health benefits of all of the different mushrooms so this video was extremely exciting to me I wish I was closer so that I could go with you. I don't have anybody to forage with me here unfortunately. Enjoy those amazing mushrooms.❤
I'm continually amazed at how different SC is from WA. Where I live in the Pacific Northwest Chanterelles are found in the mountains. The best foraging time is September or October.
All mushrooms are edible, but some of them only once. I love foraging mushrooms and am hoping to grow some in my garden once it's planted. Such an interesting video. Such a wealth of knowledge
That was so interesting to watch. Love the forests and what they have inside of them. Used to pick puff balls for my mom when I was little. She would cook them for us. So delicious. Would be afraid of picking mushrooms without my own Will with me to point out the good ones. You are so lucky. Could go up to the mountains by us to hunt in the trees. Bet there are some mushrooms up there. Wrightwood and Big Bear is a ways away but we hunt for gold in Big Bear California and will have to look for mushrooms when we go back up there. Thank you for sharing this for us.
I do not care for mushrooms, raw or cooked. However, I found out that I love them, dehydrated, powdered, and put into my herb blends. I dehydrate on a very low temp. Game changer for my herb salt
Hi Jess! Getting ready to make some of your salsa. Do you have any videos of cooking with your freeze dried mushrooms? This video is to me the epitome of finding food in nature. Thank you & thanks to Will also.
Jess, love those boots you are wearing. Please share the brand and style? Wil is very cool. Nice little forest buddy, too. 🐾 "The Bare Necessities" YES 🐻 Linen is just the best fabric for muggy south and it's easy to hand wash and hang dry outside.
Where i live it is the general rule of thumb that any mushroom with gills is inedible or even poisonous. We never touch those. On the other hand the mushrooms with pores are okay even if they're blue, it just means they're bruised. When you bring them home usually there are way more blue spots, cuz they just get more bruised in transport. But of course our varieties of mushrooms and your varieties of mushrooms are very, very different :)
My grandson loves Jungle Book and for Father’s Day, he gave us tshirts with Baloo on the front for his papa and Bagherra on the front for me and our grandson has Mowgli on his tshirt. Clearly his papa is the fun one and I am the responsible one!!! But we all three enjoy a good back scratch against a tree!😂
We just came home from NC. We found chanterelles and a beautiful cauliflower mushroom. Love going into the forest and foraging. Thanks that was fun to watch!
Beaver construction according to Google lol but I knew exactly what you were talking about because I saw it in my mind the moment you said construction hat lol gotta love the 80-90s cartoons, congrats on the mushrooms and all the education, that’s on my bucket list of learning so thanks for taking us along and helping spread more than spores
Fascinating! The tree chew might be from woodpeckers or porcupines. Beavers typically leave more "chew" marks. What a wealth of knowledge you guys are!
Harvesting blue oysters from my backyard today. Still waiting on shiitakes but so far have brought in pearl and blue oysters, king trumpets, lions mane and a few wine caps. The latter will fruit for sure Aug thru frost. Love my backyard mushies!!!
You mentioned Will + mushrooms in your last upload... I was hoping your next video would be exactly this! 🥰 We have been foraging so much this spring and summer. It's a JOY to learn about the food growing wild around us.
I wish I had someone like Will near me!! I have a garden bed going nuts with mushrooms right now. No i dea what kind they are and i never planted them, but got soil at a new place last year for that single bed and it is going nuts this year lol
I watch every one of Will's videos, at the moment I'm watching a 3 hour one broken down into 1 hour slots. I'll be going there later to continue the soothing feeling of his videos.
Winnie the Pooh had the gopher! Which I don’t think he has the construction outfit but it reminded me of that. I wonder if the beavers can tell the tree is dead so it’s easier fall?
Matter of fact I just went out this morning mushroom hunting. Although I didn't find Chanterelles, I found a really nice cauliflower mushroom, turkey tail and crown top coral mushrooms. We had some logging done over winter and I worried it would affect my Chanterelles, it did.😢
Foraging mushrooms has been on my list of what I want to learn. My brother-in-law in St. Louis is really good at it, but too bad he doesn't live closer to us out here in California to teach us.
@RootsandRefugeFarm. Thanks for the update. I love your new place, but I miss the coziness of your Arkansas saw farm. I miss 😸 Kitten George 😢, Ben-tern & little Ben, almost attached to you... I know...our babies grow but... your Littles aren't little & your oldest is getting his wings with wonderful roots! 🤗 man, there must be an onion nearby....🥹
I need to brave the bugs and get into my woods. It is newer growth but should have some good things growing. I have spread wine cap spawn under some of my fruit trees. So fantastic to see them popping after a rain. Need to find me a Will type to show me whats edible and what needs to be avoided.
I believe the mushy you said was inedible are bi-color bolete. I've eaten them and my research says they are edible, but also says some people can have gastrointestinal issues with it. I personally did not.
Yeah, I’m not even a little bit allergic. I’m the one that always tears it out when it needs to be handled. My poor sister has had to go to the hospital for it before
Shopping at God's Grocery store. ❤
“Ugh it stinks!” Jess continuing not just to sniff it but to bury her nose in it 😂
I find mushroom foraging videos really soothing. No idea why...
All those chanterelles and oysters! Will is just a well of knowledge, he’s amazing! Thanks for sharing this foraging video.

This was so fun watching you all forage! I hope you do more of this! 😊👍❤️
Couldn’t love this mushie video more…then you dropped the Jungle Book reference for the win!😂❤🐻
💚 So lovely being in the forest foraging with you and Will..so calm and peaceful. That grand Oak tree is really special! 💚
Absolutely love videos like these, it reminds me how peaceful nature is and how nice it is to just be unplugged from life for a bit. I'm hoping life is starting to slow down a bit so hopefully can get back to at least going for walks in the park again 🤞🤞

I love the foraging videos w/Will. Always learning new things as well. The world of mushrooms is so very interesting and they taste so great!
I'm so excited for fall! I started several beds with Italian oyster and winecaps in spring. A new and exciting hobby for us!
I grew up doing this with my mom and grandma. Miles of walking looking for mushrooms and rock hunting. Wonderful memories and good for your soul.
The number of times I had audible gasps and "oooh" and "ahhh"s in this video would be embarrassing if I wasn't just sitting in front of a bunch of goats 😂 thanks so much for sharing!!!
Cicada sounds always brings back memories 😊
I love all the foraging videos. I like the idea of foraging but I'm always concerned I'll grab the wrong kind and make everyone sick. It's so awesome you have Will to help identify all the tasty snacks!
Squeaky mushroom noises from harvesting are the best ❤❤

Great video and I just love Wil’s videos!❤

I love foraging mushrooms and am hoping to grow some in my garden once it's planted. Such an interesting video. Such a wealth of knowledge
The mushroom Will is holding looks to be Boletus Campestris, which is edible when cooked. Nice haul!!!!! 🥰
Okay, I had to pause, and come say, When I see big trees, I always think the same thing!! Okay back to the rest of the video! ❤
I enjoy these walks in the woods. Nothing like our woods, but still enjoy. Thanks for the education on the mushrooms.
Happy Wednesday y’all! 🤍✌️
So cool!!! I found one when I was young... inspired a lifetime of fungus love😅
I just love learning from you both! 🍄so awesome to have the ability to forage🌿mushrooms are so unique and beautiful!🤎💚
Dear sweet Jess, I just tried browned butter with one of my home grown beefsteak tomatoes. Heaven. Indulgent heaven.
That was so interesting to watch. Love the forests and what they have inside of them. Used to pick puff balls for my mom when I was little. She would cook them for us. So delicious. Love this.. 🍄💚 Mother Natures gifts! 🥰 Will is so cool!! Y’all have an amazing way of working together.
Hi Jess! Getting ready to make some of your salsa. Do you have any videos of cooking with your freeze dried mushrooms? This video is to me the epitome of finding food in nature. Thank you & thanks to Will also.
My four year old grandson calls them muff-rooms. He loves them😁.
Jess, love those boots you are wearing. Please share the brand and style?
Wil is very cool. Nice little forest buddy, too. 🐾
"The Bare Necessities" YES 🐻
Linen is just the best fabric for muggy south and it's easy to hand wash and hang dry outside.
Thank you for sharing😊😊
Thanks for the walk through the woods, beautiful ❤
Intro of the of tree canopy was spiritual. I bless you.
I kid you not, as soon as you said you had an itch in-between your shoulder blades I instantly started signing 'Its the bare necessities' 😂😂😂
Great mushroom walk & harvest. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Will. I do watch his & Taylor’s channel; it’s so soothing. Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Thank you

I think the show you were talking about is called Angry Beavers. LOL . thanks again for sharing.
Will has such amazing Hard Working hands 🤲🫶💪🏼
I love love that shopping spree from nature it's make me believe more and more in God's mercy ❤
Nice you can dry. We only have one kind. Morels
I live in the midlands of South Carolina and I’m still one the hunt for mushrooms. I need to make it my mission to start hunting
We just came home from NC. We found chanterelles and a beautiful cauliflower mushroom. Love going into the forest and foraging. Thanks that was fun to watch!
Such a blessing! Chanterelle mushies are my favorite

Wonderful fieldtrip foraging mushrooms 🍄 thank you for sharing 😊
I’m glad I’m not the only one in their mid 30s that still sings applicable Disney songs in the moment! Bahah yasss!! 🥰

Omg pausing because I have to know. Jess was it The Watchkins, Diligence episode? The eager beaver!
His videos are a work of art!!!❤❤❤ I Love your videos too 😍 ❤️
Those are tiny. Ours are usually 3 to 6 inches across the top.
Jess are you talking about Gopher from Winnie the Pooh???? “The beaver with the construction vest”lol
With a whistle when he talked??
Nice! I pick a lot of those. I think the oysters would dehydrate well but chanterelles don't. I'm drying a lot of king boletes.
I watch every one of Will's videos, at the moment I'm watching a 3 hour one broken down into 1 hour slots. I'll be going there later to continue the soothing feeling of his videos.
That video is by far one of his best. I’m still watching it.
Ok, went you leaned in to hug all I could see was poison ivy , I would be in so much trouble if that was me, I'm highly allergic to it .
Hey Jess and Will, it's always fun to find Mushrooms YumO 🎉.
JO JO IN VT 💞
Jess! Ask Will is he has any cauliflower mushrooms growing around you all. They are *the most amazing* wild mushroom ever! ❤
You might be thinking of Lady and the Tramp for the beaver
0:37 we had a puggle for 15 years! He looked very similar to this one ❤
Winnie the Pooh had the gopher! Which I don’t think he has the construction outfit but it reminded me of that. I wonder if the beavers can tell the tree is dead so it’s easier fall?
I love this type of video. I would love to go foraging like that.
Hey Jess, You are in your 'Shroom Classroom!😁
Paw paws are pollinated by fly's which is why they smell so bad. My friend hangs chicken carcasses in the trees to get better pollination and harvest!
Mushrooms in summer? Wow!
Amazing ❤
Matter of fact I just went out this morning mushroom hunting. Although I didn't find Chanterelles, I found a really nice cauliflower mushroom, turkey tail and crown top coral mushrooms. We had some logging done over winter and I worried it would affect my Chanterelles, it did.😢
When you are foraging, you should title it, "Jess in the wilderness!" LOL
I love videos from the woods. Looks like you & Will were successful in your foraging! I am leaning to identify plants & mushrooms near me.
Yes Those with Blue bottom are edible ☺️Į know mushrooms well ☺️
You should randomly throw out various seeds out there to see if anything grows
Fun video!
Great foraging always wanted to try it but would rather go with someone who knows what their doing
Very cool!
Hi Jess😊
Foraging mushrooms has been on my list of what I want to learn. My brother-in-law in St. Louis is really good at it, but too bad he doesn't live closer to us out here in California to teach us.
As you were talking about Will, I started thinking of Ben-tern. Do you know how he is doing? 🤔
I do! We traveled to Arkansas last summer to be with him for his wedding! He’s doing wonderfully!
The beavers remind me of the Lady and the Tramp. 😂
Watching out for poison oak.. darn near
Very tree in Oklahoma has it growing up
Ivy and oak ☢️
What variety of strawberries did you plant that you said did so well?
I need to brave the bugs and get into my woods. It is newer growth but should have some good things growing. I have spread wine cap spawn under some of my fruit trees. So fantastic to see them popping after a rain. Need to find me a Will type to show me whats edible and what needs to be avoided.
Oh my goodness Jess! Where can I find that t-shirt that "editing Jess" is wearing at the end of the video? The Hatch, retro, I love it!!!
McMurray Hatchery!
I believe the mushy you said was inedible are bi-color bolete. I've eaten them and my research says they are edible, but also says some people can have gastrointestinal issues with it. I personally did not.
Careful Jess, that tree you rubbed your back on had a poison ivy vine on it!
Yeah, I’m not even a little bit allergic. I’m the one that always tears it out when it needs to be handled. My poor sister has had to go to the hospital for it before
I wish i knew how to identify mushrooms,i love mushrooms
Nice
I knew the song before you sang it! 😅
Jess you're not making it up! That beaver in a construction vest is from Lady and the Tramp!
Mushies are the nickname for magic mushrooms in the UK!😂😂 Also known as shrooms. Done them twice and the high was crazy 😁
Gosh i wish i had some of that sweet gum for medicine..!!!
I remember that beaver..!!
I think you're thinking of winnie the pooh!
