Bruins fan here to say that I, and the rest of the fanbase, love Sway so much! He's easily become a fan favorite and we want him to know that no matter what he heard in those hearings, the fans love him and have his back!
We love Georgiev out here in Colorado, but if it wasn't a fan vote, there's no way he'd be in the All Star game. Last season probably should have been his All Star campaign, and we're all kinda hoping he gets that consistency back
Swayman deserves everything Boston can give him, I’ve loved him since his call up to backup Rask when Halak was playing iffy Just consistently improving every year and he’s showing it off so well this year I hope Don gets him locked down long term because he’s a beauty and it sucks that he had to go to arbitration I get they were cap strapped but this is a guy you prioritize for negotiations (I think Freddy got roped up in that mess too, and he’s killing it this season too)
And now we know why samsanov went from a playoff calibre goalie to shell over the summer…. He deff still hearing what they said in the back of his head…
Yep, same thing happened to me. Heard the coaches saying “but nobody wants a goalie who flinches” and proceeded to go on a losing streak. Stuff like that haunts you
Yeah, back when I heard the Leafs were going to arbitration with Sammy, I knew it was a bad idea, and none of what has transpired so far this season regarding his play has surprised me. On a positive note, Sammy played well in the loss to Detroit, and more importantly, the fans made it clear that they were behind him 100%.
In response to the other Avs fans that think the team has been letting him down, here are some rankings out of the 40 goalies in the NHL that have 1000+ minutes played so far this year: AG40 is 28th in Sv%, 32nd in Goals Saved Above Average, #1 is goals against (but easily leads in TOI, so works out to 18th in GAA), 15th in HDSv%, 37th in MDSv%, and 32nd in LDSv%. The Avs as a team are 9th in xGF%, 6th in SCF%, 6th in HDCF%, 5th in MDCF%, 6th in LDCF%, 3rd in SCA/Gm, 8th in HDCA/Gm, 4th in MDCA/Gm, and 6th in LDCA/Gm. Also, 6th in CorsiFor%, 7th ShotsFor%, 6th in FenwickFor%, but somehow 18th in GoalsFor%. The defense is top 10 in EVERY metric, yet the team in bottom half in goals against.
Ullmark and swayman are a fantastic duo and i think our achilles heel last year was not taking advantage of both of them, I understand the money concerns having two star goalkeepers on the team causes but hope we can keep them both without any further issues on the ice and off of it they both deserve success and prosperity on the bruins as much as any other cornerstone of the roster
Swayman is incredible. He’s a huge reason the bruins have the record they do. The bruins aren’t as strong as they were last year, but swayman is trying to pick up the slack
However bad people think arbitration is, it's worse. Trevor Linden, the absolute heart and soul of the Vancouver Canucks, was one told by the team during arbitration that "He was a bulls**t hockey player!" WTF?!
What I’ll say about giorgiev, is that yes he has a low percentage, but he gets hung out to dry by the Avs defense way too much, and when it counts, he fully pulls through towards the end of games, which is why he has as many wins as he does
Avs fan here. I think Georgiev is better than his stats would show. Probably part of the reason he was voted in has to do with the fact that he's got the most wins (and I think the most starts) so far this season. He's been overworked for sure, which may be part of the reason he's been a little inconsistent (and his save% hasn't been great) and is why I was actually hoping he wouldn't get voted in so he could get a break. Hopefully All-Star weekend is fun for him.
georgies stats are a bit misleading, the team plays so well infront of him (most of the time) he doesn't really see a lot of shots. The ones he does see are usually high danger chances from massive break downs. he could be better though and i do agree he probably shouldn't be in the asg this year.
On the Georgiev thing- yes, his numbers have not been great this season, but as of the posting of this video, he was just named the third star of the week. So he’s showing signs of improvement!
To comment on Georgeiv, as a avs fan, id say Georgeiv's stats really don't justify how he plays. He is a brick wall when it counts and needs to happen, and although the avs have a solid defense, this year in particular, I've never seen so many given up pucks by our defense when there shouldn't be. Georgeiv id have to say is our reason for not drowning, atleast til the defense gets their crap together and completely healthy.
As an Avs fan, Georgiev has been bad this year. Goaltending worries me so much and i think it will be the thing that prevents us from making a deep Cup run.
Way back when, noted ‘nice guy’ and then GM of the Islanders, Mike Milbury, brought his RFA goalie, Tommy Salo, to tears during Salo’s arbitration hearing.
Bruh, most of us get annual reviews at our jobs where we hear all kinds of nasty stuff about our performances, even if we're good at our jobs. And we do it for a lot less than 3.7million dollars. It's part of the gig.
I think there should be a fan vote but there should be restrictions on who you can pick and how many players you can pick from a certain team. I also think the first 32 players to be selected in should be the best players, not one from each team because this leads to players who should obviously be an All star having to be voted in by fans, fans who will either just not vote or feel forced to vote for a certain group of players because some people who got in took the place of others who are much better than them. Also, this one from every team rule creates a talent gap between players that should not be there if it is truly best on best.
Georgiev had better numbers last season but he has alot of wins this year. Other goalies are having better years but Georgiev deserves the acknowledgement. The Avs lean on him pretty hard. He carries alot more responsibility than most keepers
32 Thoughts had Swayman’s agent on and he said that a nice deal is going to happen for him to stay in Boston. Arbitration sucks, but he bet on himself and it looks like it’s gonna pay off.
The Bruins have always been super deep and the one thing that has always been their Achilles heel in the last few years was goaltending. It looks like they have a legit one-two punch in Swayman and Ullmark now and both are playing really well. Swayman deserves every penny he gets. Dude has been getting better every year since he came into the league. Trust me, there's tons of teams that would sign Swayman in an instant. Good to hear Boston finally swallowed their pride and locked him up.
i love georgiev but im dissipointed that he's going to the all star game, partly cause im an avs fan and i want him to rest and i just don't really feel like he's an "all-star". should've been somebody else imo
Management are doing a bad job at arbitration. They should not point to the weaknesses of the player, but compare it to the team other players and situate his salary in this hierarchy. This would not hurt anyone but emulate I would say.
Swayman is excellent. Only reason he had to hear that crap is because it's an unfortunate side effect of the salary cap. As for the "All-star game", it doesn't mean anything and no one cares. Congrats to the fanbases that were motivated enough to send all their players.
I'm guessing you haven't watched a lot of Avs games this year. They go back and forth between playing like a top 3 team that dominates, and absolute garbage. Georgiev has stood on his head multiple times and made some incredible saves and kept them in games where the rest of the play didn't really show they belonged. He is playing far better than his stats show.
As an Avs fan I'm happy Georgiev got voted in, he was great for us last year and even if his numbers don't really show it he's been decent for us this year, love him, great dude. But I feel like someone like Connor Ingram deserved it over him
here are some rankings out of the 40 goalies in the NHL that have 1000+ minutes played so far this year: AG40 is 28th in Sv%, 32nd in Goals Saved Above Average, #1 is goals against (but easily leads in TOI, so works out to 18th in GAA), 15th in HDSv%, 37th in MDSv%, and 32nd in LDSv%. idk how easy it is for you to watch kraken games but if u ever wanna cover the team more this pens game is 100% the one to do. end of a record win streak, bad reffing the whole game, tons of injuries, questionable coaching decisions, the time change, and also just a decently fun game to watch even if kraken played pretty subpar (ill be the first to admit)
To be fair the team offered him 2 for 2. He asked for 3 for 4.78 during negotiations. For Arbitration the max reward is 2 years. He got awarded 3.47 which is pretty dead in the middle. So the arbiter clearly agreed with a chunk of what Boston was saying.
It's like insurance or a warranty. They're trying to get out of paying more than they feel they should. I mean, you gotta see it from both sides. But having said this, if I'm an NHL player, I'm really not all that hurt by what they say personally. If, as a grown man, you can't disconnect the emotion from logic, over millions of dollars to play a sport, then you're not that strong of a person to begin with. The daily struggles of a pro sport athlete are not the same as an average person who makes a fraction of the income for a lot more work.

Georgiev is 24-9-2-2 and does have one of the leagues best win/loss records but his .896 GAA doesn’t even put him in the top 25 for that stat. But hey, Grant Fuhr is in the HHoF with a career .887 GAA 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Yeah man look theres a reason Geogie was a backup for so long and theres a reason the rangers ditched him for quick, who by the way has better numbers than Georgie, Quick shoud've gotten it
Yeah Georgiev really shouldn't be in the all star game I mean I like the guy but I've watched him every night and he hasn't been very good except for the last 3 games. Maybe last season he did well enough for it, but this season he's let in a lot of soft stuff because he's being very overplayed. I don't really like how they're touting his most wins stat as something to praise when in reality it's just evidence they're wearing him out because the Avs don't have a good enough backup this season.
The fan voting this year was brutal, only Canucks and Leafs voted in, Georgiev ahead of some great goalies, it should be the best of the best decided by the NHLPA, and teams that don’t have all-stars don’t have players in it.

Fan voting makes sense depending on how you view the "All Star Game". Is it best of the best or as fan voting would suggest, about players star power.
Way back when, noted ‘nice guy’ and then GM of the Islanders, Mike Milbury, brought his RFA goalie, Tommy Salo, to tears during Salo’s arbitration hearing.

"We hear you like eating turkey guacamole sandwiches..."
Does the player have to attend the meeting, their agent can't simply appear on their behalf? I think that would solve a lot of the issues around it.

I think that if no goalies are sub 2.00 GAA w/ 20gp then its all shooter tutors at the all star game.
Fans can vote a can of tuna into the all star game. They are the ones watching it.
meanwhile, jake oettinger getting voted in by his team with a 2.96 GAA and ,902 SVP 🤦♂🤦♂
We need another John Scott voted into the all-star game!
Georgiv deserves to be an all star more than Connor bedard 🤣
As an avalanche fan, I didn’t vote for Georgie. He’s too inconsistent for me…
