A Henry Cavill Superman sequel and potential will always be my personal biggest "what if" of CBM history. He was genuinely perfect for the role. But they completely wasted his time in the cape. Man Of Steel was such a great starting point for the character that we all know from the comics, TV, and cinema. And the worst part is that Henry absolutely loves Superman and loved playing him. He wanted all of the same things we did. And was ready to deliver.
James Gunn better make a damn good movie with Superman: Legacy, or this will hurt even more than it already does.

And that's the one thing that pisses me off about Superman fans that claim they understand Superman. They say man is still sucks yeah? You just said it was a good starting point that's exactly what it was. That's why it was called man of steel not Superman. He wasn't Superman in this movie until maybe the end and even then hes not really Superman. Until the end of his action nightmares Justice League what people are forgetting is we're witnessing the reverse of this Batman. And the rise of this Superman hes not Superman until the end of the next night is Justice League. That's when he has been oh I need to go do what i need to do and hes fucking frightened staffing with the whole time with. A smirk and like it's nothing hes literally become Superman and people claim they understand his character from the comics. Yet hate man of steel I understand some of the things of him destroying the truck. The trucker that put beer onest face and maybe how his dad died? You can be a little stupid bat the same time when they claim that Superman just destroyed. The? Fuck out. Of metropolis are you rude idiots? Not understanding the the damage from the soup and not alone is just too cryptonian. You're not thinking about what the world engine would have done. It would have been successful and it would have completely altered Earth. And then you're also not thinking about that even the scientific cryptonians if they were to go into our atmosphere without their visors and start absorbing yellow. Sunlight and breathe in our oxygen that they wouldn't just start develop in super powers like God and his 2 generals so not only would you have. Zod in his generals but also super scientists who can kill any human or military personnel because they are just as invincible as Superman maybe not as strong. Because hes been absorbed in all this yellow sun for 2 decades 2 and a 1/2 decades but you've got to. Understand at that point even if it's only 20 to 30 criptonians. That's enough power to level Earth 10 times more than a nuclear bomb like they can literally drill to the core of the Earth and blow us up just by. Flying and into it and they might die but there'd be other corporations left. You guys don't seem to understand the stakes that the new blood Superman had to deal with. If he didn't snap zod's neck refer to the end of the Flash. This is what would happen we would have lost. Marshall manhunter would have been a bitch and let us all die because let's face it. He can't fight cryptonians hand the hand he get his ass walyes. Yes I don't understand how people can say they love Superman and hate man and steal and not understand this is literally the superman's origin story. It's his beginning hes not at the daily planet yet is not even in metropolis. And hes not even in smallville anymore hes going through his journey pretty much. What smallville Clark can't went through except staying in smallville metropolis. He went through that save and people randomly work in different jobs figuring out who he was or what he wanted to be and if he was ever gonna. Reveal himself this was literally an origin for Superman and yet you guys don't understand that now I get after this film things were rushed badly versus. Superman should have had a individual Batman film and another man of steel films so we could fully appreciate cable in the Cape and suit as soups before killing. Them off because that's their biggest mistake they ever did was kill them off. I remember being legit. Intimately pissed off in the theater saying they were retards for bringing in doomsday this early. I mean two movies in is very very early

And there he was: Superman. That was the Superman I had always wanted to see on screen. Like he was ripped out of the JLU cartoon and given flesh.
I loved the Christopher Reeves films back when I was a kid, I still do. But to me this was a new version, one that no one could tell me was lame, specially when compared to Batman. No, I could just see him bench pressing the fcking moon.

The Clark Kent glasses have much more going for it than "just a pair of glasses". Watch the Reeves version and it shows all the little tricks that Clark uses, not to mention vibrating his face at superspeed in photos when he is Superman, and there has been COUNTLESS issues devoted to all the tricks that Clark uses to differentiate his identities-I'm so over this argument with literally NO research from the commentator stating the disguise is crap. Hell, Cavill himself stood in a Superman S t-shirt in Times Square under the BvS bill board trying to get recognized for a day-with no glasses, and NO ONE knew him! Come on.

  • @randomnerdythings9094
    @randomnerdythings9094 Год назад +2

Nobody’s ever actually made a reason to why Clark Kent’s disguise works? It’s been explained in some of the most popular books.
The most common portrayal is the explanation given in All Star Superman. He doesn’t just wear the glasses. He wears baggier clothes to make himself look chubbier. He walks with a slouch to make himself look shorter. He acts extremely clumsy, because who would expect Superman to be a bumbling oaf?
Another explanation in an older comic(which I personally despise) is that his glasses emit low level physic energy to hypnotize people into not seeing him as Superman.
In terms of the Snyderverse? They really never did pull it off it was just Superman with a suit and glasses. His suit was tight, showing off his muscles. His posture was powerful, making him full height. He never acted clumsy from what we saw, taking away that aspect as well. Henry Cavill was an alright Superman. But he was a downright awful Clark Kent. His jaw line alone would be hard to miss in a crowd of thousands of people

I fully agree with you on Henry Cavill really got the short end of the stick. Doomsday should of been its own film closer to when the movies start to tire out or you build up to like say End game was. You then end the film with the rise of the four Supermen. Having Henry play Cyborg Superman, Black Suit Superman, and The Eradicator which at first was thought to be Superman. We would see all three maybe even add Superboy in like the comics and asking if Superman will be back or who is Superman?
They threw out a chance to really make record numbers. If you think End Game went big. If you did the Death of Superman right with Cavill. We really would have had a great movie. The rise of Supermen would end up like Infinity War. However, DC has been just dropping the ball from one movie to another. I love the new Supergirl actually, but DC can't be given credit for a long term ability to allow a director to do what they want and give us a good film.

I'm sorry, but Clark Kent is essential to the Superman mythos. Saying that it's not justified is kind of missing the forest for the trees. Clark alters is entire appearance, his posture, the direction his hair is swept off to. It's an effective disguise, despite how much people meme on it. Could Cavil play an effective Clark? Maybe? But he didn't. Reeve managed to make both performances feel like separate people, and transformed between the two effortlessly. Cavil's Superman feels so stiff in comparison. Like, if Reeve's Superman was to interact with any villain, any other version of Superman, regardless of size or costume, he'd outshine them in performance and presence alone.

Henry Cavill could have been a great Superman if he was just allowed to act like Superman. This is shown in the theatrical cut of justice league and even in his short cameo in Black Adam. Henry Cavill actually acts like Superman in those movies, and does a good job at it. Man of steel and especially the snyder cut of justice league just seems to not let Henry Cavill be Superman, especially when he should have been Superman in those films. The closest Zack gets to having Henry Cavill be Superman is the ultimate edition of BvS, and it still starts off bad by having Superman save Lois by tackling a normal man through walls. It just shows that Henry Cavill was never the problem with his portrayal of Superman. He just needed a better director that understands who Superman is and what he stands for. ruclips.net/p/PL-DeArxLd9idZvxfshRVfk6jtC2DNqv0y

Your quote at this timestamp is ironic because that's exaxtly what youre doing when talking about how The Death of Superman is used in BVS. We know it's a grand event in the comics and involved a lot of characters at his funeral, but the reason for it being done in BVS was to show this was how Humanity learned to trust Superman because the basis was that the Snyderverse is set a realistic world like ours and it was showing that distrustful, skeptical and confrontational aspect of human nature, something also reflected through Batfleck.
And it's weird that you complain about fan service and then a few sentences later you say how much you wish Supermans Funeral could've been bigger Fan Service.
At the end of the day, Film is a vastly different medium from comics and it can never be translated one to one.

Breaks my heart how WB, Zack, and half the fanbase treated Henry Cavill during his run as Superman.
A previous WB executive (who has since quit WB) effectively shadow banned him from future projects (shelving a MoS sequel indefinitely) after JL, for a completely undisclosed, likely petty, reason.
Zack hardly gave Henry a quality script to work with. Unfortunately increasingly leaning towards his edgy “dictator Superman” storyline he planted the seeds for in BvS. Since Zack refuses to let superheroes just be good for the sake of being good.
The fans turned on Henry for: A) not being Christopher Reeve… and B) for the piss poor decision making Zack Snyder and his team of writers were shaping Henry’s Superman up to be. They hardly gave Henry a chance, and stooped to utter rejection of him for the script and direction he wasn’t responsible for.
I fully believed him when he promised that his Superman would be happier after his cameo in Black Adam. He wanted to make things right with the fans because Henry has always been an avid supporter of the fanbase (which makes total sense because he was clearly a fanboy of the character as well).
Henry had the look, the demeanor, the acting chops, the suit, the physique, the incredible score/theme song, the drive, the passion, and the will to give us an incredible Superman… perhaps the best live action Superman… but he was never given the opportunity, because at every turn he was shackled and abruptly stopped by the people behind the DCEU. Truly the biggest waste of an enormous amount of potential…
I wish Henry Cavill the best… you were slept on big time, and you’ll always be… at least to me… the best live action Superman we’ve ever had to this day!

It's a shame he never got to live up to his true potential. Unfortunately the writing surrounding never did the character justice and Zack Snyder never really understood the character of Superman. The reason Superman is essential in the world of comics is because represents the good and hope within all of us. He's kind, compassionate, understanding, he is gentle, he is teachable and is not afraid to show emotion and affection. In a universe filled with heroes with emotional baggage, Superman is an emotionally healthy hero who while still wrestles with his own demons, he still doesn't let those demons define him and he represents the goodness within all of us. I honestly really dislike all the Superman suits Henry wore. They look two alien made when in the comics they are supposed to look homemade as if his mother made it.

Tyler Hoechlin shined as Superman in his first episode as the character, cavil had 2 movies, it’s snyders fault that Superman was the way he was. he was never gonna become the Superman we all know and love because it was intentional to make him dark and edgy, people are more in love with the idea of what his Superman could have been instead of what his Superman actually was. snyders Superman was intended to be that way because WB wanted to get with the times there was no road to a hopeful Superman I guarantee he could have had 5 more movies and he still would have been dark and edgy

Cavill is a very cool guy and his humility will always be appreciated. I say he could've been an awesome Superman, but he was never truly directed to play Superman. I never liked the DC Snyder films, to me they are trash because Snyder's style was opposite what the DC films needed to be, and that is why they were failures. Many say the "Snyder Cut"was good, I say it was a longer version of the trash the JL film already was. Many blame Whedon for that failure but there is no way that film was going to work no matter who they brought to finish it, it was Snyder who ruined it from the start. I respect he had a vision, but it was 100% the wrong vision for what the DC films needed to be, specially if they wanted to make something as good as the earlier Marvel films. Cavill never played Superman and he knows it, thankfully he has the right attitude and maturity to surpass and survive the current Hollywood trash and continue on. God bless him.

Oh and I like Superman just fine when he has some layers to him, much like he did in Man of Steel in particular, that's the version of Superman that genuinely works. There are other ways to give him depth, such as in the DCAU where he has his old-school trait of being hyper intelligent, which explains his cool and calm demeanor, instead of it just being his upbringing or whatever rather trite explanation, and allows him to have genuine wit and tact when dealing even with someone like Mr Mxyzptlk, and win. In other words, he works just fine as a character when the writing gives him depth, as per what I mentioned previously. Batman had depth from day one because of his origins and situation.
