hey Mark. You must have seen that power prompter up close. Bob Marks told me it scared the horses and thats why it failed.

Bruce had the PP at Wolverine raceway in 1976 at the Grand circuit stop there...Joe O"Brien time trialled a trotting filly during the week and she went in a blazing 2:06....they muted the muffler noise pretty good, and they had a speaker playing pre-recorded hoofbeats, voices and whips to make it realistic, but i guess there was no substitute for Fred Bach and Dennis Lacey...

Great bunch who would be - and mostly were - free-for-allers at the Meadowlands, too ...
I remember the Bruce Nickells Power Prompter. It had a speaker mounted on one fender, or maybe both, and one of the recorded sounds played through it/them was, or sounded like, pots and pans banging together ... 😅

When you watch the videos of these races, pay attenetion to how many HORSEMEN would stop what they were doing to see the race...Whether it was the FFA at Scioto, the Provincial Cup at Windsor Raceway, or the International at Roosevelt, horsemen have a great deal of respect for their peers, both human and equine....

Pickwick Baron paid $37.20 to win. Therefore he went off at 17/1

Even though he raced into 1977, Momentum (and his stablemate Kaboom Minbar) could not replicate their earlier successes, and Mo was retired after a brief campaign to stand in Ohio...
