    1:19 What do you mean by as a copyist ? What is a copyist ? Sorry for my english haha
    Edit: I ended up googling it like a good boy.
    "A music copyist is a professional who creates a written version of musical compositions, arrangements, or transcriptions. They transcribe the composer's score into a readable format, either by hand or using music notation software, and ensure that the written music accurately reflects the composer's intent and is easily readable by musicians.
    The goal of a music copyist is to produce a score that can be used for rehearsals, performances, recordings, and other musical purposes.
    "

    this does not answer nothing to me. Where are the listings, the job posts? This what you say is about the CONDITION to be hired AFTER you found work.

    • @ZachHeyde
      @ZachHeyde  3 года назад +4

      Hi Emanuel--None if the jobs I've gotten thus far have been from job listings/posts, but have all been from people I've known or connected with directly. If you're limiting your search to job listings, you'll be competing with hundreds or thousands of other composers who are equally qualified in many cases, so I'd recommend instead opening your opportunities for work beyond the postings you find online! Just my perspective :)

    SO TRUE everything you say Zach. I’m a professional conductor and want to make a channel like this for people who want to get in to the business. It’s inspiring to watch you do it. Trevor Morris did it for a while too. Super cool. Love your channel even though I’m not a composer!😊

    Awesome video and very insightful. I’m curious, do you think it is necessary to be living in a place like LA if you want to be successful in composing? Or can someone be successful living anywhere?

    • @ZachHeyde
      @ZachHeyde  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Adam! No, I think there's pros and cons to each--LA is a great place to connect with people, but nothing happens on its own here, and still requires proactive effort like anywhere else. What's important is that you build face-to-face relationships with people wherever you are, be that through Zoom, traveling places, or locally over a coffee. Hope that helps for a starter :)

      @@ZachHeyde Thanks for taking the time to respond! That is very helpful. I’ve seen in other careers just how powerful “networking” really is. What it comes down to is just building authentic and real relationships. Adding value to other people.

    I’m a senior in high school (I’m currently 18) and I’ve been playing the piano since I was ten, and the violin since I was 13. A year ago I started playing the guitar, too. In my country (Italy) there’s this “special” kind of high school you can attend: they call it “musical high school”. You have to audition to get in. I auditioned when I was 13 and I got in. It’s just a regular high school, really, but you learn about music theory, harmony, music production and history of music. And, most important thing, you study two instruments that you can choose (well, kinda... ): the first one is the one you auditioned with (it’s the piano for me) and the second one is assigned (violin for me). I’m about to dive into my last high school year and I know that this is what I want to do: film composition. I know about harmony, and music theory, and I play three instruments, and yet sometimes even I get the feeling that I’ll never make it. My question is: how do I make it? What do I study at university? I know that there is a master in “Composition for screen” but I need an undergraduate degree before doing that, and I have no idea what to get it in. I also want to attend university in a country that will give me more opportunities, job-wise. People think that if you want to peruse a music career, Italy is the best country but, trust me, when it comes to composition, it really isn’t. Ennio Morricone is the exception. Nobody makes it here. I’m so lost. I know what I want to do, but I have no idea where to start. If someone has any ideas or any piece of advice, I’m begging you to share. Thanks for reading.
