Love Shonzo’s videos as usual 😊😊😊 can someone explain what he does at 10:16 please? I noticed that he uses F to create an edge and cut the quad into two tris but the sorcery after that was too quick for me to understand 😭😭 I just wish he’d put screencast keys on more often 😅😅
Ok it took me probably 30 minutes to figure out what the F he is doing, so he makes the edge in the middle of that square right? so he selects that bottom vert and selects a vert on the behind using ctrl + right click to select all the verts in that line, then he does Alt + V to do a rip fill after this he dissolves the new bottom edge that was created from the first edge, and then does an edge loop over the crotch to make that tri into a quad.
It won't be so bad, but it depends on what the model is expected to do. Simple topology like this should be fine for what people do in VR chat and most streams
Yeah, in general it helps to keep things quads and no pole vertices at areas that stretch much. I've seen some other modelers also get more efficient meshes by angling the edge loops around limbs and such too so less are needed. Flow follows definition more or less.
im completely new to blender and this video really helped me out but, I keep on getting stuck on how to do the crotch ( around 5:17 ). How do I connect the two legs and do the simple connections?
i think I just figured it out. if anyone is wondering like i was ill post the (hopefully correct) steps below. -when you add the subdivision surface modifier set viewport to zero.(not required but helped me with it being more lowpoly) -extrude the closest vertices in the crotch area over to the other side of your mirror. -now turn on clipping and pull your overlapping crotch to the center as far as you can. now that you have the crotch, the simple connections are done like this: -go to your next vertice to the front of the crotch on the leg and extrude it to the center. -now select that vertice and the one below it and click "f". (this will bridge the gap between the vertices) -now select the four corners of the shape you just created and click "f". (this will fill in the shape) hope that helps somebody 👍

Hello Shonzo, I really love your work, you really learn a lot. But I have a question, how do you make the clay brush take out geometry in sculpture mode to shape the butt and thighs? I tried it but it didn't work for me, what it does is crush the geometry😓😓
Hello Shonzo, please tell me how do you make those stars on your hips and knees so fast? I'm trying to keep up with it, but I can't due to the speed of the video and the lack of comments.
So I'm working on making my first model and I'm a bit confused, when he was connecting the legs at 5:25 he used a curve or something and then added a new vertex inside of it, what do I need to press and how do I do that.
It's not a curve. He has a mirror and subdivision modifier on. He selected the vertex then hit e to extrude it. When he moved it to the middle of the mirror, (He has clipping and merge on) the subdivision modifier averaged it out and connected it with the mirrored vertex.
This isn't a tutorial because I see you doing stuff and I'm like "how do you do that?" so I end up teaching myself with google and looking at what you do xc you're so good at it aaa

Hey! At 3:27 what key is he pressing for that? Ive only followed basic bare bone tutorials and im not sure how to go about doing that (where he adds on stuff to it)
You said at the beginning at the video that you make the characters twice long that they actually are . It's for details reason? And I love your work, it's very inspiring! (Sorry if my English is broken it not my first language)
I know this is isn't a tutorial, but I would love it if you had your keyboard inputs shown on the screen, as there are a few times where I am not quite sure what you are actually doing when you are editing your topology. =)
what are those lines under the vertical lines? he has the lines that show up on the actual mesh I don't know if that's important or not but I just wanted to ask ahead of time also what the heck did he do at 6:59
so for the lines you have to go to overlays at the top right hand corner of the viewport beside xray and find "wireframe" under geometry, and for the timestamp as far as i can tell he selects the vertices in each corner of that face and merges the vertices in the center by pressing 'M' then selected the bottom and right edges from the smaller face that was created and dissolved them (ctrl+x)
I just hope blender have basic human/anime body models default and people who not good at 3d modeling can doing it easier. Something like vroid but advanced.
im really new to blender and kinda dumb, how do you get the vertices to connect when trying to make the crotch/ connect the legs. I tried using M at center but it doesnt seem right
I really enjoyed watching your previous videos and that hooked me on making this as well but i have a question Did most of your model you have created is on low poly or high poly and why?does the poly differentiation affect the future adjustment like texturing or movement set? Because the model that i made is like low poly so i do want to know this beforehand
The goal is to make a proper quad topology that allow to use subdivision to get a wide range of poly count all from the same base model. So there is no actual high poly model used when working and animating. This way there is no need to wonder about poly count as the base model usually end up with relatively low poly anyway. If required then the higher poly model is subdivided from the lower poly one and the details sculpted on these surface. This way the high poly smooth curve and little details can be loaded only when rendering. Or they can be baked into normal mapping textures for real time render like game and Vtuber. By the way it is possible to convert MMD model to quad and un-subdivide them in edit mode with blender. This way we get a lower poly version that is easier to modify and animate. Then after use the subdivision modifier when rendering to make them smoother than they were before.
@@gg-rd5wp for the timestamp as far as i can tell he selects the vertices in each corner of that face and merges the vertices in the center by pressing 'M' then selected the bottom and right edges from the smaller face that was created and dissolved them (ctrl+x)
I'd recommend 1 because merging meshes gets really messy source: used like 8 separate meshes to make 1 model when I was starting out and it was a nightmare
How to do so that the vertices in the axis do not collapse? I activated the symmetry option and when I move they separate from the middle, or they come together and go inside.
A teacher of mine once said it's bad for beginners to model while subdivision is active, personally I think it blinds the person to the actual movement of the mesh and it's boundaries. If you have the experience though, it's fine!
Notes for newer blender users/anyone wondering which commands he is using:
- Pressing "J" with 2 verts selected will draw an edge on an existing face
- Pressing "F" with 2 verts selected and hovering your mouse on the next one will auto fill faces like he does here 15:20

- Alt + V will "rip" an edge forming new geometry

Unity. It tends to mess up shape keys if characters are not scaled big enough!
@@Shonzo I have to ask do you draw or paint traditionally?
Shonzo: "lets do some basic connections"
my stupid ass: HOW DID YOU DO THAT
Thank you for your contribution sir!
Am I the only one who learns modeling from Shonzo's videos?
I know this is isn't a tutorial, but I would love it if you had your keyboard inputs shown on the screen, as there are a few times where I am not quite sure what you are actually doing when you are editing your topology. =)
what are those lines under the vertical lines? he has the lines that show up on the actual mesh I don't know if that's important or not but I just wanted to ask ahead of time also what the heck did he do at 6:59
Same problem did you manage to do it? How?
so for the lines you have to go to overlays at the top right hand corner of the viewport beside xray and find "wireframe" under geometry, and for the timestamp as far as i can tell he selects the vertices in each corner of that face and merges the vertices in the center by pressing 'M' then selected the bottom and right edges from the smaller face that was created and dissolved them (ctrl+x)
I just hope blender have basic human/anime body models default and people who not good at 3d modeling can doing it easier.
Something like vroid but advanced.
im really new to blender and kinda dumb, how do you get the vertices to connect when trying to make the crotch/ connect the legs. I tried using M at center but it doesnt seem right
I can't wait until I find my own workflow so I can just go at it like this one day
I really enjoyed watching your previous videos and that hooked me on making this as well but i have a question
Did most of your model you have created is on low poly or high poly and why?does the poly differentiation affect the future adjustment like texturing or movement set?
For some reason the mirror modifier isn't working on the circle. Am I missing something?
I didn't get his comment at the start. You have to make things twice the size they are supposed to be or that's just his workflow?
What should I do to do the same as at minute 6:59?
Hello Same problem. How did you do it?
@@dontnowatimdoing446 Is it in the part where it makes like a kind of circle?
@@gg-rd5wp for the timestamp as far as i can tell he selects the vertices in each corner of that face and merges the vertices in the center by pressing 'M' then selected the bottom and right edges from the smaller face that was created and dissolved them (ctrl+x)
Why on 5:17 his extrude is rounded but mine is square??? help pls....
Do i need to use one shape to make a character or can i make seperate parts and connect them later?
I'd recommend 1 because merging meshes gets really messy
source: used like 8 separate meshes to make 1 model when I was starting out and it was a nightmare
Awesome topology, lov it 👍❤️💖💕🦊
Shonzo doesn't say "Zaaaaamn 👀" to pretty women, but to good topology.
Love the video!!
Also on a random note, is the BGM here from Genshin Impact or somewhere else?👀👀
