That “controlled chaos” section is a technique they use in a lot of their arrangements. As Sushi Rolls they did Total Eclipse of the Heart and ended with a perfect example of that. If people hadn’t figured out who the Rolls were before then, it was a flashing neon sign. (It’s fun to see your face light up with Kirstin first comes on screen. You aren’t the only one.). It is a live performance of 3 originals, including that one, and the MJ medley. It is a longer video but it doesn't seem to get blocked like official videos do. Plus, Mitch has a part in it that is not in the official video.
Over and over again PTX has made covers I enjoy of originals I did not, the biggest and probably controversial, example being Bohemian Rhapsody. They are so out of my normal wheelhouse which is Jazz, Blues and other MOBO genres yet make me even like Pop songs when done by them. I guess that is what it means to be a Pentaholic.
Heard the original on vacay in Turkey and must have had a cocktail or 3 because I misheard the title & thought it was 'Cherry Lips' ( which are small , hard gummy sweets in the UK that look like this 💋🙂) . Anyhoo, after 2 days of hearing it played over & over by the pool, in restaurants & bars it got old real quick . Loving PTX as I do & seeing 'Cheerleader' , I thought it might be an original ...imagine my surprise when they started singing Cherry Lips & an even bigger surprise was that I loved it 😅.
A funny anecdote from the filming of this video - the director had to keep having Avi hike up the neckline of his t-shirt, as they didn't want his chest hair to show. If you watch closely throughout the video, sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can't. So silly. At least nowadays he often wears his shirts unbuttoned a few, but I suspect it's just because that's more comfortable for him, and not that he's trying to please his female fans, lol.
To answer your semi-rhetorical question: Yes, Pentatonix still lists their high-tier patrons at the end of their videos. But to get onto the videos it's $50/month, and there are a limited number of slots available, so you'll need to sign up in a hurry! 😉😆

And Mitch's voice in the very beginning and very end is just heavenly! If it's the same as it used to be a few years ago, it's the $50/month Patreon tier that gets your name in the video end credits. Honestly I enjoy this one so much. I agree it was overplayed back in the day, but I always liked the original and they did a fantastic job making it their own.

Oh god, Zack, that filter on the video was difficult to look at. LOL Can you use something else. I hate the fact that PTX forces reacters to use filters at all. Been waiting for you to discover 'cheerleader'. It is an amazing update on an orginally lackluster--though popular-song.
I very rarely have to use filters. By the third time of uploading something and getting denied. I usually get frustrated and just blur it. I can look into other overlays. The clear one is up on Patreon, though.
