This video is my litmus test for whether PTX reactors "get it", and you saw it immediately! They highlight all the unique aspects of themselves, but they also find the commonalities we all have (when they pass the card, they both share that identity). John Lennon would be proud.

That’s how I rate rap reactors, if they don’t get “lookin boy” on rap god, they don’t get anything

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Pentaholics are the ones who need to see this the least.

I love this cover of an immortal song SO MUCH. The messages resonates through the years. The signs represent who they are, and what they share with the person next to them. This was Scott's first time publicly acknowledging his identity.

Fun Fact: Scott met his now husband, Mark, the same night after they shot this video. Scott stopped by a friend's birthday party after this video shoot and that's where he first met Mark. It was all meant to be.

This is definitely one of my favorites!!! The first time I watched - I had tears streaming down my face by the end!! This group is very diverse and yet they come together - make beautiful music and are the best of friends. Wish the rest of the world could follow their example! 🙏🏻♥️

You are always so perceptive. I love your PTX reactions and how you express yourself. This one gives me chills every time, particularly the “wall of sound” near the end that musically illustrates the idea that “diversity with cohesiveness is beautiful” . Hoping for Popspring 2016 sometime. You’ll also love Come Along! 😊

Being old enough, I remember the kerfluffle when this song came out. The older generation was convinced it was in praise of communism (no possessions, no religion) rather than a plea for peace. I love how PTX flipped the emphasis to personal peace and community instead of John Lennon’s emphasis on global peace. It’s the mark of an exceptional song when the meaning can adapt to the times. I didn’t see the box so much as broken as simple and humble, so there you go with interpretation. Loved your reaction, as I always do! Peace …

That box is called a “Hope Chest”. In the past people would put in the chest their desires for the future. Beautiful rendition of this classic song.❤

Lovely image but it usually refers to a box containing a woman's trousseau. Items she has made/collected in preparation for a future hoped for marriage.

Great reaction. Kevin is also in the high range, he can match or possibly exceed Kirstie & Mitch in his falsetto. He did do percussion, you just missed it on the first run through 😊
I agree that their simplistic approach on this video was meaningful. It let the words of the song take precedence. It’s a beautiful performance of a beautiful song.

You mentioned that they all were singing pretty high, but did you noticed how Kevin went crazy with the falsetto during that very intense part at the end?

We like to say that Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue.
John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences.
First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together.
Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were 43 years ago.
John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he DID give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

I see you have Pentatonix and Home Free here but no VoicePlay. Why? They are part of the top three acapella groups and were on The Sing-Off with HomeFree. They do everything from Metallica to Disney and #TheatreKidsOfACapella. They did Metallicas' "Nothing Else Matters", Areosmiths "Dream On", and Radioheads' Creep" just to name a few. They put out new videos each month along with minis and shorts. They don't block their videos as they are totally independent and do everything themselves. Arrangements, filming, editing, directing, lighting, sets, props, costumes etc. Indulge yourself and check them out along with their bass Geoff Castellucci who has his own channel and does LOW BASS covers.

Unfortunately, there's one thing about this song that isn't simple; that first card that they pass from person to person relies heavily on electronic graphics done in post-production. Imagine is one of the very few songs that Pentatonix can't perform as well live as they did in the official video, because their live performances lack that important visual statement.
