Wish I’d seen this sooner. Your take on social media should be compulsory for all secondary schools.

For 23, he's quite mature. He's only gone from strength to strength. Absolutely love this kid.

What a lovely respectful young man. He deserves everything his worked so hard for, definitely one of the best footy players to ever step foot on the field.

Awesome interview 👏👏👏 Great insights and advice. I’ve been a Panthers member for over 30 years, and I’ve never seen a Panthers team before that has as tight a bond and close mate ship as the current group. You can see how hard they work for each other from the first minute of every game to the 80th minute, and last weeks game v the storm was a perfect example of that. Nathan is a class act, but so is every member of the team. They are a credit to their families, to their club, to their fans, to their community. I’m proud to have been a Panthers member for over 30 years...but there is something extra special about this current group of players...it makes me extra happy 🐾🖤❤️💚💛🐾

Grand Final morning 2002 my wife my 3yr old son and I stroll around the streets of Sydney looking for a park to play in, we were staying at family friends house and went exploring the neighbourhood and we found a small playground on a corner.
About 2 mins later Ivan, his wife and toddler walk into the playground and soon enough my son and Ivan's son are playing together chasing each other around etc and as fathers do, Ivan and myself are chasing them around and having a chat about our sons and "Dad life" to each other at the same time.
Looking around the playground 2 more families had arrived and I remember thinking to myself at the time that nobody else there would have known who Ivan was because none of them looked like your typical rugby league supporter and Ivan wasn't exactly a superstar poster boy either.
I remember my wife asking me who he was because she'd seen me talking to him and she said he looked familiar to her, and I said to her ill show you who he is later, he'll be on TV playing in the Grand final.
It wasn't until years later when Nathan was dominating in the NRL that I realised that kid playing in the park with my son that morning on Grand Final day with his Dad was the young man I was watching on my TV dominate at the highest level.
It's been great to watch the development of this kid and my wife and I often talk about that morning while watching the pre game during State of Origin.
It was a really memorable morning for me as a rugby league fan to just spend a little bit of time with a player Grand Final morning just chilling with his family in preparation for not only a GF but the last game of his career, it was nice to just be a fly on the wall for it all, I never indicated to Ivan that I recognised him or was a Rugby league fan, never mentioned the game so I got to speak to him just as a regular person without the "fan" dynamic colouring our conversation.
One thing that still sticks in my memory about that 45 mins or so interaction with him that morning was how calm and relaxed he was, he was super chilled and wasn't putting out any nervous energy at all, he was just having fun with his toddler enjoying the morning sun.
I just thought I'd share my little accidental and very normal experience with a 3yr old Nathan Cleary and his father on GF morning 2002.

It's great to hear how measured Nathan is. His answers to questions and his reactions to compliments speak volumes. The lessons I got from this is that it is so important to surround yourself with the right people. Secondly, and as a father of 2 boys (13 & 11) that it is crucial for me to help them see that their peer group can be the biggest influence on their life and that it's my job to gently nudge them in that direction with my actions. Thanks Hayden.

The chat about fopo really dug in deep for me, I've lived with that for most of my life which has caused heavy anxiety and even depression.
I am a massive Nathan cleary and 9anthers fan and watching the way he has grown into a man since his debut on and off the field and within himself has been very inspiring for me.
But I have taken away a bit of I guess reinforcing the notion that I need to make sure that only my circle matter! And tbh I do have a pretty good circle, my partner is amazing, she has literally kept me alive.
I guess what my point is knowlsy is thank you for bringing this stuff up and for having great insights into it! I'm going to take something away from this and hold onto it and try remind myself of it more when I start to have a dark day!

Ivan has a deep understanding of humility and has passed that on to his children. Nathan is mature beyond his age, and appreciates that hard work, diligence and humility is what creates true champions, not just ability alone.

💯. A lot of influence from mum and dad. You are correct with everything. Add how calm he is under pressure as another trait where you can see the influence also. 👍

Haha thanks mate, you might need to share this channel a bit more to catch up to some of the greats! I enjoy it and in all honesty if it makes a difference to one person it means the same as a million people. Keeping that approach I know it will grow but I don’t compete with other podcasters , unless should I aim for Joe Rogan ? 😂 you can be my manger ! Love the feedback and thanks 🙏

I know a few Jockeys that watch race after race. Especially if they have never ridden that horse before. Nathan was Jaide’s PE teacher at Colo High when he had to leave for a footy call up.
