Another odd thing is why would Queen Coral “train” Anemone? Anemone could just cast a spell when no one is looking and stop the war, just make everyone get along. But that might make the second arc a little unnecessary if that happened- still would have been good if Anemone had done that

Okay, I just remembered another one. So you know how in the beginning on the Lost Hair dragonets get almost spotted by a SkyWing patrol? WTF WAS IT DOING THERE?! We know that the dragonets left the Sky Kingdom in the end of the first book and didn’t plan to go back there. They were mowing East towards the “tail” and the Sea Kingdom. And considering how impatient Tsunami was I’d say they were pretty close to it. Which means there should be no SkyWings that far into the MudWing territory. From what we’ve seen different allies would get together only for attacks and occasional guest visits. No soldiers trade or anything. That means there should’ve been a MudWing patrol, not a SkyWing

In the Darkstalker legends book it mentions that the pet scavengers in the school used an apple as a peace offering and it’s mentioned that dragons were eating apples. So dragons are eating something as small as a pea and that’s the size of there fruit apparently?

I suppose there *could* be an argument that dragons and/or humans could have cultivated some foods over time to be larger/smaller respectively. After all, we see that in our own, real-world agriculture. Like with corn, for example. It started out with the edible part being really tiny, and now it can be the length of a person's forearm. Or perhaps fruits have evolved/mutated to be larger or smaller based on what species is nearby. Course, neither of the options are really hinted at in the books, are they? But it's something to consider.

    • @slipperysock3423

This makes sense but the reason that fruit and vegetables got bigger was because people would take the seeds from the abnormally large fruit/vegtables and would plant them and kept doing that until they were artificially evolved into more edible fruit and vegetables and you are partly right about the fact that they could be mutated

I think it's that Peril's firescales only kicked in when exposed to oxygen, like how porcupines quills harden after birth, so when Peril and Sky hatched Peril's scales would heat up in a few minutes, giving Sky the time to get out of the egg too. Also an example is when Peril was swimming and fish could swim up next to her and not die.
    Please stop.

For Onyx, I'd say, at least we were given SOME sort of excuse as to how and why Onyx was with the younger dragonets. (She snuck in as part of the plan to learn more about Sunny and possibly take her out, and everyone forgot she was 19, meaning she at least looks young enough to be in the place. ) The third one with Sky being invulnerable to Peril's scales makes sense, and I headcanon it. My explanation for it was since it's also HIS fire, he's sort of immune to it. Along with that, as you pointed out, Sky should've burned in the egg, like Scarlet said.

Some people say it would have made much more sense for her to be a teacher because she had the age and it would have given her more access to things and more of a chance to spy on the dragonets. But that’s the thing, would they let a random sandwing that just showed up that wanted a teaching position have it? Even if they did they wouldn’t do without some questioning right?

Finally, someone brought up the food sizing! It’s so inconsistent. At one point in Dragonslayer (and I think Moon Rising as well) it’s mentioned that a blueberry is the size of someone’s hand…which is HUGE. But at other times it just seems to be normal sized??? I’ve always been so confused about this.
With Onyx I just assumed she looked much younger and smaller than she was, but now that I think about it it STILL doesn’t make much sense.
I headcanon that either the sort of gooey egg-stuff would have kept Sky safe or Peril wouldn’t really burn until she hatched, although fire immunity is way cooler.

Sense there are more examples of Fruit being bigger than normal, I think it's more likely that Pyrrhiain Fruit is huge.
Look at the sense in Darkness of Dragons when Darkstalker holds & PICKS THE LEAVES off a strawberry.
None of the characters comment on how big the berry is, it must be a normal size for Pyrrhiain strawberries.
But it can't be the size of a real strawberry, 'cause someone Darkstalkers' size holding somthing that small is like someone our size holding a Musterd seed

I've just begun reading into Wings of Fire, and aside from the triple moons of "The Land of the Lost", the sizing issues didn't escape My notice! But, in Land of the Lost, There are portrayals of supesized berries and veggies, as well as normal sized of the same. These were Explained in the failed remake of the 1990's as due to genetic engineering. There's also a mention by Wesley Eure's Character concerning "Why there's dinosaurs here in the first place". He suggested that "everything is from other worlds and times just evolved...". Tui doesn't say just how advanced Dragons and humans were before "The Scorching", but, I've come across Three fan stories suggesting that humans may have come from space as invaders! I've considered that Both humans and Dragons came from different planets and fought over this new world.... whatever, not much Makes any Scientific (or Magical) sense in the Wings of Fire World! Basically, WOF is Just "Game of Thrones", but, with Dragons in the human roles! 😻

I had NO IDEA Onyx was so old hahahaha. That is really weird. As for the dragons' food intake: I think we can partly explain that with the fact that they're reptiles (at least, I think they are). Being cold blooded means they don't have to eat as much to replace the energy their body is using - a crocodile, for example, only needs to eat once a week or so to keep itself full and some have even been documented to go over an entire YEAR without eating anything. So, for Clay to be constantly hungry (even after eating an entire cow) is a bit wild. Still, a single kiwi probably wouldn't mean much to a dragon haha - it'd be like giving a person a single grape or something like that. Not exactly filling.

It was noted in one of the books (book four or five??) that a dragon can go a month without food before dying. Plus, a cold blooded creature couldn’t live that far north in the arctic, so ice wings HAVE to be warm blooded. Also, sand wings emit heat from their scales; and I don’t THINK (correct me if I’m wrong) reptiles can emit heat like that. If two dragon tribes are warm blooded; who says that the rest aren’t as well?

Maybe Jade Mountain is a school with an open policy for any age, it's never too late to learn.
respect to the sizes that confuses me a lot, I always thought that humans were the size like in the image of Smolder and Rose or even bigger because they can carry a small dragonet, but the graphic levels draw them smaller I don't like that, I prefer them to be a little bigger, I think the indicated size would be up to the shoulder of a dragon.
I think that Sky having the same scales as Peril, she can touch him without hurting him, I have the theory that touching Peril's fire scales could happen to Sky and vice versa, it's just a theory, an idea, I've been thinking about it a lot, but it would be great to see that they could share the scales of fire.

With the first one, I always thought Jade Mountain Academy worked more as a college or school that dragons of all ages can attend. It could be a coincidence that Onyx is in a school full of dragons younger then her, or it could just be some kind of inconsistency, we know Tui has done that in the past with dragon ages.
To add onto the sizing issue with humans and dragons, why in the world are dragonets so small? We see multiple times that baby dragons can sit on a humans shoulder and even be tossed around, as seen with baby Sky and Bumblebee. Humans shouldn't be able to support the weight of a dragonet, as they should realistically be the same size as a human. (unless baby dragonets are canonically the size of a pea to adult dragons).
As for the animal and plant sizing compared to humans, the only logical explanation that I can come up with is that there is some kind of form of gigantism, like certain plants and animals have some sort of parasite or virus that makes them grow in size. Either that, or we're looking at completely different species of animals and plants that look like the normal ones, just bigger.
As for Sky not being burned by Peril while in the egg? It's possible he's immune, but I still have no idea.

When it comes to fruit and other plants with mixed up sizing, I think dragons usually would grow the fruit larger while a human would make it hand sized.
Sky most likely has fire proof scales, because of Peril.
Onyx or Flame being older than the teachers isn't that bad in my opinion. I think in a dragon society they don't care about age. Plus Onyx went most likely because after her mother's death she had to teach herself so she went to the academy to learn more.
The Cow thing doesn't make that much sense but i guess the cows are taller than the humans, but still not as smart so humans could put them in a fenced area. Still the mixed up sizing is weird
What I think doesn't make sense with mixed sizing is how the Dreamvisitor is so small on the cover of Dragon Slayer when it was about the size of a pocket knife in Darkstalker.

I have an explanation for the 2nd one:
This is hard to explain but maybe fruit can be ripened at a very small size (which could satisfy a scavenger), and it could grow to a size to satisfy a dragon. And for meat, I think that there are varied species. Maybe scavengers could keep a species of cows small enough for them, and dragons could have bigger species of cows for them. This is highly unlikely, but thanks for looking over it.

  • @Sympathy4TheMachine
    @Sympathy4TheMachine 2 года назад +8

I think that maybe normal cattle are about 6’8” tall, since a 6yr old dragon (according to WoF experimental wiki) is about 9’8” to 8’2” tall, so a cow that size should be enough to sciatic hunger, but people don’t even eat something about a third of their size, so they would probably be a bit larger than normal sized. And as for fruit my guess is that they have a size comparison as a normal fruit to a human, like a mango would be the same size or a bit larger than a dragon talon. But this isn’t even earth, so size rules won’t completely make sense.
And my theory for firescales and ashscales (I think that’s what their called) is that ashscales are either invulnerable to all Fire, or maybe just firescales, or maybe even just to their twin counterparts.

well I have a theroy with the whole 'Sky would have died in the egg' thing, maybe, that only when peril was exposed to the oxygen in the air it triggered her scales to become so warm, because fire needs oxygen to burn. As for the size difference, I have a few theories that might work (some spoilers for Arc 2 ahead!)
    1. The early size comparison shown 1:40 could be between a full-grown dragon and a human. It's possible that dragonets are just much smaller. We've known that Morrowseer is quite big compared to the original Dragonets, so there also might be some significant size difference among the dragons themselves.
    2. Most dragons aren't really that big. It could be that the average size of dragons compared to humans is closer to something we would see in Dreamworks Dragons. The large dragons that are shown might happen to just be exceptions.
    3. The plant life of Pyrrhia has split into two different types: human-sized and dragon-sized. In a scene from Moon Rising, Moonwatcher passes a blueberry to Bandit (Winter's pet human). This would not be possible if the blueberry was human-sized. Then in Winter Turning, Winter saw vegetable gardens growing in a fortified human town. Therefore, the plants must be human-sized, or else there would be carrot leaves the size of trees.
It could be any one, or a combination of some of these theories. Hopefully the upcoming Wings of Fire Guidebook can help shed some light on this mystery

  • @friendly_lemonade

I think an explanation for Sky not dying in the egg would be that dragon eggs have a sort of goo inside them like chicken eggs, where the dragons eat it until they hatch, and since Peril can’t burn things in water, this likely would have stopped her from burning Sky as well.

  • @useruser-gb3kh

I actually don’t see much problem with any of these
    1. I didn’t read the second arc yet, but with Onyx I just got the same idea as we have in our world where older people can come to colleges and study with 18 years olds because they want to lear more
    2. The animal sizing isn’t a problem at all actually. Looking at the chart of human/dragon difference, a normal sized cow is actually a good one-time meal for a dragon that size. It was mentioned that they do hunt smaller animals, but I guess they could be somewhat of a snack. When it comes to fruits, Tui actually said that they were dragon-sized. It doesn’t really explain how humans can eat them normally, but they could just cut it or there could be different sized fruits. I mean it’s a magical world
    3. Here there could be a lot of different theories. I’d guess that the liquid in the egg keeps the dragonets completely safe till they are out. Basically I would say you can’t really tell it doesn’t make sense if there’s no clear rules about how this works

    To discuss Sky's fireproof scales-
I think it is a genetic mutation due to the fact that peril isn't just immune to her own fire...
She is immune to any fire as shown when in Moon Rising she literally walks thro the burning library with no effect.
Meaning that this likely passed onto sky. Plus if peril was always on fire even in the egg Wth did peril not burn the egg itself and even as a dragonet peril is shown to be able to burn a embryo(Unhatched Dragonet) with no problem.
+ Peril didn't even fry herself. Which should have happened if she was burning in the egg because the inside of the egg(Yolk/White) would fry and create smoke. Causing both dragonets to choke to death.

So I think that, for the different sized foods thing, there are essentially two types of every plant and animal. The ones that are human-sized, and the ones that are dragon-sized. This isn't easy to explain in the books, but I believe it's just a matter of evolution. We know that about 5000 years ago, humans ruled the world and there were very few dragons, seemingly anywhere. This means that during the time of The Scorching, the food would have all been human-sized. Dragons with leafspeak could have suggested to the plants to grow larger over time, and animals could have gotten larger based on diet and breeding. There are obviously a lot of holes in this theory, but we know that the dragons are fairly advanced, and have been for some time. Even in Darkstalker's time, there were vast libraries and gardens, so why couldn't there have been biology?

  • @embersanimations49

Ok so I figured out the “how did sky survive in the egg” question.
To put it simply, sky ISNT immune to fire but peril didn’t have all of it when she hatched.
Ok so the biggest thing her is, if peril can burn OTHER dragonet eggs with a touch why didn’t she burn hers. Also when kestrel picked up peril to escape with her, HOW COULD SHE DO THAT WITHOUT BURNING UP? We know kestrel got in the air before she dropped peril, and only dropped her when she touched her face; usually the most sensitive part of the body
Answer: peril didn’t have all that fire when she hatched! We see peril smoking in the graphic novel when she was born , so she had a little fire. But it’s safe to say when dragons hatch it takes a little bit for their fire organ or whatever to kick in. Meaning sky could of hatched safely and kestrel could have taken peril before her fire started to burn at full force. Also, when kestrel layed the egg the dragonets were not full developed. Fire most likely comes closer to birth. It’s a little weird how I explained it but does this make sense?

And it can be any size in between human size and dragon size just depends on the soil or food given

For the egg thing, I could be wrong but the whole point of eggs is that they contain a kind of water/liquid like substance to keep the baby in place. With this wet substance when Peril and Sky were born they would come out wet. With this mabye it would take longer for Peril’s firescales to kick in, also fire requires at least 16 percent of oxygen content to burn so that could be why she didn’t burn him when they were hatching or in the egg together. 🤷‍♀️

A blueberry was handed to Winter's pet scavenger Bandit, and the scavenger had to hold the blueberry with "both paws". So the blueberry was like melon-sized to Bandit.
AND *SPOILER FOR THE SECOND/THIRD ARCS*
And in Snowfall's book, there were scavengers LIFTING UP AND THROWING baby dragonets. But these dragonets had been described to coil entirely around a grown dragon's neck??? And then there's also the massive issue with how the heck that scavenger killed Queen Oasis. It said "he lifted his sword and plunged it into her chest", not word-for-word, but HE WAS STANDING ON THE GROUND AND SHE WAS STANDING UP STRAIGHT? How LONG was that sword???
Plus, scavengers RIDE HORSES and CAMELS, but a camel or a horse is enough to feed multiple dragonets. Moon and Qibli shared a mountain goat and it was enough for them.
So all I can think of that makes ANY sense, is that there are two kinds of everything. Human-sized things and dragon-sized things. Giant chickens and regular chickens. It still makes NO SENSE but it makes more sense than before.
And the dragonet-tossing... I can't even. I just can't. It was really frustrating to read that part in the book. This is something an editor should have caught, or a beta-reader.
Wings of Fire... I've been reading the books for a really long time, and I plan to keep on reading. But MAN some things just frustrate the snot outta me.

Actually, when we got to have the scavenger perspective on the night Oasis died, Oasis had fallen or her head was low to the ground attacking the other scavenger and he stuck it into her eye.

The food size issues can at least be partially explained by selective breeding; dragons and scavs would naturally prioritize different traits due to their differing lifestyles, nutritional demands, and sense of taste and smell.
Bananas are actually a perfect example of Tui switching from dragon POV to scavenger POV and back again in the middle of a sentence without telling anyone, and thus creating the illusion of a size problem where none exists:
    * If you ask Smolder, a banana plant grows one banana at a time, and bananas are about as large as a scavenger.
    * If you ask Flower, a banana plant grows hundreds of bananas at a time, and each banana is about half the size of one of Smolder's claws.
    * They'd both be talking about the same plant and the same fruits; they'd just be disagreeing on what counts as "*one*" banana.

    To answer:
    1. The reason Onyx was at Jade Mountain was probably to be like a college student. Maybe she wanted education on something other than the war.
    2. As we learn in The Poison Jungle, aka book 13, plants & animals can be different sizes. There are most likely different kind of animals & plants to accommodate for the humans & dragons.
    3. I agree with StarSeeker The Sand-Rainwing. Fire needs air to keep burning, so Peril's fire scales probably took a second or ten to activate, giving Sky the chance to crawl away & not get burned.
One thing I hope gets shown eventually is Peril & Sky discovering that they're siblings. I REALLY hope they show that:)

I think that the embryonic sac juice stuff in Peril and Sky's egg was enough of a buffer to just make a very toasty temperature in the egg, not burn him. And Sky wasn't burned when they hatched together, but Kestrel was burned when she tried to escape with Peril because the embryonic sac was wiped off

My explanation for Sky and Peril is that firescales require oxygen to heat up. This would explain why Peril can walk in JMA without leaving patches of the floor hot enough to burn other students, as the scales on her talons wouldn't have enough oxygen to keep the reaction going. Under this hypothesis, Peril's scales wouldn't have been hot enough to pose a threat to Sky until a few minutes after hatching. Also, I believe that Peril's explanation for what happened to Sky in the egg was that she ate him before she hatched or something.

It is confirmed in dragonslayer that there are both human sized and dragon sized variations of animas. When leaf is stuck in the skywing banquet hall, he notes that there were huge oversized food and animals. I always took it for granted that Sky was immune to fire, or at least firescales, because- as you say-- he would have been incinerated in the egg otherwise. Or maybe just Peril's firescales, because half of her fire was technically Sky's originally. Or at least that's what the skywing tribe assumes; since they usually kill firescaled dragonets as hatchlings it's not like they've actually studied the condition.
Another possibility is that a dragonet's firescales don't "turn on" until after they hatch and take their first breath. This seems likely, because otherwise they'd burn up their own egg before they were mature enough to survive hatching. Plus, if firescales emerged prenatally, the skywings would be able to tell which eggs were carrying firescale dragonets by their unusual heat, and over the cliff they would go before their shell had its first crack.
The size inconsistency... yeah, you're right. I'm willing to give Tui a pass on this, though, because at least she doesn't have protagonist-centered morality, and except for this the internal consistency is very good. (cough) J. K. Rowling (cough)

The sizing is really messed up in the series and I couldn’t agree more. The novels first mentioned that the human height would be almost up to clay’s shoulder. Who -mind you- is the biggest of the five Dragonets of Destiny. So it would make sense that that they’re just a tad-bit larger than a Shire horse nearly full grown. But the lack of consistancy makes it harder to get a reference of how big dragons are supposed to be. This is made worse by the graphic novels say “screw sizes, here’s a blueberry the size of a human head”.

  • @lemonteeth69
    @lemonteeth69 2 года назад

Also, Firescales would be impossible because as soon as its egg is laid (twin or not) the hatching would shrivel up the egg IMMEDIATELY, killing while it's underdeveloped. Even before that, maybe while the egg in in the dragoness it would burn the shell and then the mother from the inside.

The sizing of the scavengers would also confuse me. In Dragonslayer, Wren could carry Sky on her shoulder when he was little. Based on the scale shown in the video, baby dragonets would be about the size of a dragon ear. I feel like the sizing of scavengers are not at all consistent throughout the wings of fire series. In the same book, Leaf could fit in a small gap in Sweetfaces neck, making him probably the size of a talon. And yet a scavenger is told to be a full meal for dragons.
