Hi Marissa, sorry to comment yet again. I was watching different videos of people who just got their golden puppy on RUclips and I was wondering, if you’re ever going to be doing a Q&A regarding dog stuff… I’d be really interested to hear what you often see people do/say in dog training etc that you wouldn’t recommend and why. Mostly since you seem so knowledgeable about training both Freya & Beyla. Not to tell other people off of course, but I’m really curious if there’s a ‘popular’ thing to do that you don’t necessarily agree with. Best wishes 😊
oh my goodness you're totally fine!! I just posted a question bubble on my instagram stories for all the doggo questions and can definitely do a ~dog related Q&A~ !!! love the idea!!
Because dogs prioritise physical cues over verbal ones the most efficient way to add a verbal cue is to say the word before gesturing/luring the behaviour (or before the dog offers the behaviour if you're shaping). By having the verbal as the first piece of information the dog gets it makes it more relevant, if done right it only takes 5-10 reps for the dog to perform the behaviour with only a verbal cue (maybe longer for complex behaviours or sequences). The same with a clicker/marker, it should always come before you give any physical indication that a treat is coming (like moving your hand towards your dog/treat pouch or beginning to throw/present a toy). No so important with basic behaviours but I found out the hard way it will make life difficult later on when teaching tricky stuff lol

I just know I couldn't do this cause Beyla's the cutest thing and I'm so weak that I'd be giving treats away even if she bit me🥲💖
