I love 90s U2!!! Sadly, this compilation doesn't capture that era very well. I think it's because it was released so soon after the 90s (2002) when U2 still seemed ashamed of most of their 90s music. First of all, the 2 new songs ("Electrical Storm" and "The Hands That Built America") were written/recorded in 2002 and have nothing to do with 1990-2000, so I don't think they should have been on the album. The "new song" on the 1980-1990 compilation was a partial re-recording of "Sweetest Thing", which was a B-side from 1987, so it fit on that album even though it was new. I think the 2011 finished recording of "Blow Your House Down" (originally begun in 1990) would have been a good "new song" for this compilation. Second, the 2 songs from All That You Can't Leave Behind ("Beautiful Day" and "Stuck In a Moment") would have worked better on a 2000s compilation, especially since those are some of the biggest hits of their 2000s music. Yes, that album began production in the late 90s, but it came out in late 2000 and released most of its singles in 2001. I don't think the album needed any songs from 2000, but if U2 wanted a 2000 song on the album, I think "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" from The Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack would have been a good choice since it came out on the radio in early 2000 and was the first new song we'd heard since "Sweetest Thing" in 1998. Third, the so-called "improved" mixes of 1 song from Zooropa ("Numb") and 3 songs from Pop ("Discotheque", "Staring At the Sun", and "Gone") are not as good as the original versions, in my opinion. They included some newly recorded parts from 2002 (some of which were kinda cool; some not), but they're not the same songs we remember from the 90s. Fourth, the obscure Zooropa song, "The First Time", was included instead of "Lemon". U2 probably did that because it was the least weird song on the album and was also featured in The Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack. Fifth, the 2nd verse of "Mysterious Ways" had an alternate lyric in it that replaced "She sees the man inside the child", and was so anti-climactic compared to that original lyric. And finally, sixth, the bonus disc was almost completely full of remixes instead of non-album songs, like the bonus disc of the 1980-1990 album had. U2 had some great non-album songs from the 90s, and it's a shame they were traded for remixes. Some of the remixes are cool, but I prefer non-album songs over remixes. Anyway, here are song selections from this era that I think would have been better for this compilation (I usually prefer the album versions, but some may prefer the single versions): [1] Even Better Than the Real Thing (I do like this single version better); [2] One; [3] Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses; [4] The Fly; [5] Mysterious Ways; [6] Numb; [7] Lemon; [8] Stay; [9] Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me; [10] Miss Sarajevo; [11] Discotheque; [12] If God Will Send His Angels; [13] Staring At the Sun; [14] Last Night On Earth; [15] Please (although I prefer "Gone" instead); [16] The Ground Beneath Her Feet; [17] Blow Your House Down (the new version). Personally, I'd ditch these last 2 songs and include "Mission: Impossible (Junior's Hard Mix)" from 1996 and "Sweetest Thing" from 1998 (both of which were hits in the 90s), but MI was only by Adam and Larry and it was a cover song, and ST was already on the 1980-1990 album, so I'll leave the tracklist as it is above. And here are song selections I think would be better for the bonus disc: [1] Alex Descends Into Hell For a Bottle of Milk (it's only Bono and The Edge, but it was released on U2's The Fly single); [2] Night and Day; [3] Lady With the Spinning Head; [4] Salome; [5] Where Did It All Go Wrong; [6] Paint It Black; [7] Slow Dancing (Zooropa version); [8] In the Name of the Father (it's only Bono and Gavin Friday, but it's a cool song from the Zooropa era and the drums were used in the Numb Perfecto Mix and at the beginning of concerts); [9] Slug; [10] Your Blue Room; [11] Mission: Impossible (Junior's Hard Mix) [it's only Adam and Larry, but it was a hit on the radio]; [12] Holy Joe (Garage Mix) [the better of the 2 available mixes, in my opinion]; [13] North and South of the River; [14] Pop Muzik (it's only Bono, but it was released on U2's Last Night On Earth single and was used at the beginning of concerts); [15] Happiness Is a Warm Gun (Gun Mix) [the better of the 2 available mixes, in my opinion]; [16] I'm Not Your Baby; [17] Stateless.
I think U2 shouldve left the ATYCLB songs off this album and kept them for a 00-10 Best of, especially since Beautiful Day was the only single from the album to come out in 2000. Love the videos, been watching all the U2 album reviews, looking forward to see what you say about NLOTH

Oh, great! I will get to NLOTH next. I think I may be a lone voice on that one.
I completely agree! The ATYCLB songs would have been better on a 2000s compilation.

'Best Of 2000-2010' and 'Best Of 2010-2020?' Will they release?
Not likely - 1980-1990 and 1990-2000 were contractual obligations.
The Pop remixes are weak. Discotheque especially and Gone is a bit too triumphant
Lemon should be on there. Great song
Lemon is my favourite U2 song.
@@markreed4543 yep it's in my top 10, I like how it changes mood (key?)late on.
@@markreed4543 nice choice Mark. It varies for me but A Sort Of Homecoming at the moment
Yes! They shouldn't have remixed any of the songs for the album, and Lemon definitely should have been on there :(
