Are you exposing manually? The Nikon will try and use fast shutter speeds instead of the 1/50th second you should be using, and then crank the ISO. Try shooting at a 1/50th second, shoot your lens at the lowest F-Stop, and then raise the ISO to get a usable image. I hope this helps, Jordan @ The Camera Store TV
FYI: There is manual aperture control. You must: 1) Set manual focus on the lens (if applicable) 2) Set manual focus on the body 3) Set manual movie mode in the menu settings 4) Use keypad to select aperture (directly on LiveView) then use Wheel to change aperture.
Very informative and entertaining review. I really like the informal style of your presentation! It holds my attention while still transmitting the information. Great job!
+Bas van der Meij (Ykai63) I bought it last month ! I am happy with the camera but the lens I bought to go with the body I'm not that satisfied… anyways love the camera
@smithy2306 The 60D would be my first choice, all the image quality of the 60D, but with audio controls and a great flip screen. The 7D would just gain you better build quality if its use is solely stills. Definitely try using a D7000 before jumping ship to Canon though. It's a huge upgrade over the D5000/D90 in terms of image quality, and you get full manual control. Jordan @ The Camera Store
i like this guy he seem has empathy for both canon and nikon and any camera brand. he may be has a favorite brand but he sounds excite with any brand he review.
@riheljana The D300s has a more rugged body with more external controls, faster framerate and faster autofocus. The D7000 has better image quality, both in terms of resolution and low light performance, much better video, and is smaller and lighter. Which is the camera for you depends on which is more important. Jordan @ The Camera Store
@mjollnir2230 We used the Nikkor AI 50mm F1.8, AI 85mm F1.8, and Tokina 11-16. We had other lenses we planned to use, but Aperture issues in live view kept us from using them.
@MrDigitalZombie As mentioned in the video, when in Live View or Video mode, you cannot set your aperture without flipping the mirror down and then setting your iris. So we wound up using manual aperture lenses as opposed to some nice G series lenses, like the 50mm F1.4 G and 35mm F1.8 G.
@saltwaterpickle Still no firmware update, and the D5100 has the same annoying issue, so I don't think we can expect a firmware fix on this. I'll keep hoping though... Jordan @ The Camera Store
Have to agree with hezzart! Extremely well done! Nice film at the beginning and good review. Make more of this videos (like with the Pentax K-5 and other cameras)
@GuNNeR85 The Camera Store is located in Canada, NOT the USA. We, in Calgary, are particularly proud and pleased that we have such a competitive and competent store and staff in our neighbourhood. Guys like Chris make the purchase of photography gear easy and painless with their approach to sales and service. It's always a pleasurable experience when I walk through the doors of The Camera Store.
Can you list the settings? Everything I film with this camera is grainy and noisy af when the light is low. I was filming at sunset and there was a decent amount of blue light still but the footage is completely unusable.
I have just gone from the Nikon D90 to the D7000 and I am really happy that I did. Its early days so I am yet to get down and dirty with the D7000 but my early shots show promise. I would like the D7000 battery grip but its price point is OTT at this time.
@ectobuilder We tried this, and were still unable to adjust aperture without going out of live view, setting aperture, and returning to live view. If you have a video of your process, I would love to see it. Jordan @ The Camera Store
Excellent review with a creative element. If I hadn't already bought the camera, I'd consider getting it through you. Well done. MUCH better than QQQQ dude's latest video filled with errors and misevaluations.
Okay so the nikon website says it has improved weather sealing and in every review they mention weather sealing but when I talk to someone from nikon they said it's not weather sealed and using it in rain voids the warranty
Liking your reviews, very informative. I reckon the D7000 is the best all rounder Nikon at the moment. I find it a great camera, like using a digital FM.
Great video. You answered some of my questions with low light filming with the D7000. Wish you would make more about filming in low light with the D7000 or point someone to a link. Anyway, THANKS.
Thank you for this great review ! I'm still thinking which is best the D7000 or the D300S ?? they seem so close, but the D300S gives this feel of a pro body much heavier and fits more in the hands, but in terms of image quality, I'm not sure which one is best. I do a lot of stills, and I'd do more and more videos now that my little daughter is growing and moving a lot. can you help me choose one of them.
Thank u very much for this video. I am very much confused to buy nikon d7000 and nikon d5500. Am I go with a semi pro old dslr or mid level dslr with modern technology. Is vary angel touch screen panel has durability. please help me.
after the firmware update changing aperture on live view work just got this few weeks ago. sold my trusty Nikon D200. the D7000 perform really great with a good glass. kinda miss the external buttons of the pro body but this it worth the money maybe ill just use this and wait for the D300s replacement or instead just invest on more quality glasses
I read somewhere that it is not possible to do such a thing with firmware update since the D7000 uses the same motor to move the mirror as it does to change the aperture. So it cant change the aperture with out cycling the mirror. The D600 supposedly works in the same way.
You'll never get a Nikon with an F Mount to change aperture in LiveView because the aperture control is still mechanical rather than Canon's electronic. That mechanical control releases during LiveView and can not be moved until it has reset. Unfortunate, but I'd rather keep compatibility with old lenses than have to change everything.
@rojanieves Just let Nikon know how much this is an inconvenience. It seems easily fixable with firmware if enough people are aware of the problem. Rile up some photographers!
I bought the D7100 to replace my D7000, and within 500 clicks I sold it. In my opinion there are several changes that went downhill. Slightly less battery life, reduced buffer rate, and the "extra" settings on the setting dial just to name a few. (M,A,S,P, is about all I need) Also, having to push an extra button to change that dial really sucks! I also didn't like the 24.2Mp resolution sensor upgrade. I shoot real estate professionally and have to reduce images for customers as it is, but even for everything else, I found it only eating up hard drive faster. If I want more resolution, I'll shoot a multi-level panoramic. Thank you. The extra crop factor setting is a joke. Nikon sells it as "being a great option for shooters who want to zoom in more". What a bunch of B.S.!! It's not a zoom. It's a crop. I wish people would quit saying it's a zoom. Anyway. I love my D300 and my D7000 and can't wait until Nikon decides it time to release the D400! Great video by the way. Thanks!
The downside of this camera is in video mode it has really bad moire and aliasing. But the upside is Nikon has better colors then Canon and Panasonic. For my Nikon is the best for stills and Panasonic GH2 best for video.
There is a solution for the Movie-Aperture-Problem: watch?v=Ghv9yev_AYk Is it possible, that a new firmware will allow it to make a movie on the D7000 with 60fps in 720p like the EOS 60D?

Unfortunately, the D7000 was never updated to provide aperture control in video mode.
You're a natural in front of the camera. Ever thought about being a TV advert sales person or and actor? You got talent, dude. Use it!
That was a beautiful film in the beginning.
Very informative and entertaining review.
I really like the informal style of your presentation! It holds my attention while still transmitting the information.
Great job!
I bought the D7000 in 2015.
Basically, it is the same price as some entry level DSLR's and is a way way better performer.
Bas van der Meij Just bought mine today since I had been using a D70 for the past 3 years, I'm excited to get it.
Jiro Hen Nice! :P Let me know what you think of the camera when you get it :D
+Bas van der Meij (Ykai63) I bought it last month ! I am happy with the camera but the lens I bought to go with the body I'm not that satisfied… anyways love the camera
+RattleHeadMonty You should get a 35mm f/1.8G, great prime featherweight lens for low light and street shoot. And a 18-55mm is great for travel.
minghui1943 i hav 35mm 1.8g lens and 18-140 vr lens ...im happy with 35mm but not so happy with 18-140
@aeromaxmat Chris is holding the 50mm F1.4G.

@vcbabis It has very little vibration when the mirror slap occurs, allowing you to shoot at slightly slower shutter speeds than usual.
Nice presentation with the sample low light movie.
The times when Nikon's video was considered to be good. :D
Great video. Enjoyed the movie segment at the beginning very much.

Finally ordered one today can't wait (:
Excellent review!
Great review, I would buy that camera from you if I lived in the USA :P Keep up the good work !!

I really love the video, it is so real.
Okay so the nikon website says it has improved weather sealing and in every review they mention weather sealing but when I talk to someone from nikon they said it's not weather sealed and using it in rain voids the warranty
I love my Nikon!!
How is the guy's guitar still playing when it is on his back in its case? Oh, "artistic license"... I get it. Interesting video. Cheers.

+Roy Jewelers & Traders Depends on what you're going to use it for. For video, spring for the 5500. If you're doing more photography, get the 7000.

Me gusta este modelo sus funciones lo demuestran su velosidada de guardar fotografias en la memoria es exelente
hi, if you should compare Nikon D700, D300s, Canon EOS 7D. Which one is the best?...Could you help me?
thanks
@TheCameraStoreTV Which lenses and what aperture issues?
Calgary was thinking of moving there from Toronto. Then again.
Weird, on the D90 it was ISO you couldn't change in Live view, now it's the aperture? Why can't they allow all of the options to be changed in LV?
which one do you prefer, nikon or canon.. tell me please
And no mention of what lens was used ?

Means I don't need to buy the D7100 and spend 500 dollars i don't have , well thanks for you comment, I'll try to get a used D7000
Great review EXCEPT for the part about a D300 having a QUIET MODE, it does not exist.
I may sound stupid and I am new to cameras and I want to learn,
I just wanted to ask what is ISO?
Sensitivity of your sensor. Earlier it was Sensitivity of your film. Higher ISO you can shoot in more low light but there will be noise.
@TheCameraStoreTV Ok, thanks !
hi,i got d7000 but my problem is,in low light I m getting noise.how to get ride the noise?
+Thameem Ansar Turn down iso, don't know if this will help you anymore haha
+Thameem Ansar same

Is it possible, that a new firmware will allow it to make a movie on the D7000 with 60fps in 720p like the EOS 60D?
Does anybody know if Nikon DID firmware update aperture on the fly adjustment, this vid made in 2010 and all? Much appreciated thanks
