@Insane_Ian You actually missed the main thrust of Must Have Been The Wind while pausing. When his mother is comforting him after the young dragonborn steals his sweet roll she tells him to not let small things get him down and just let it go. Because wind passes and even kings fall so you just stay strong and carry on. Basically he's *not oblivious* ! He's *deliberately ignoring* both a *Civil War* and a *Dragon Invasion* and waiting for them to *blow over* ! And even *more incredible* he does it *so happily* that it actually *stops both disasters* because this one guard *refused* to get *stressed* by them! It's the most *hilarious* and *strangely uplifting* take on that line I can imagine and it's *perfect* !
Another fun little thing to note about the scene right after that it shows him rocking out in the middle of the oblivion gates crisis, which took place over 200 years before Skyrim, and before that, it shows his childhood taking place at the foot of the red mountain pre blight, which was 600 years before Skyrim Which I think is just a fun little tidbit for all the skyrim lore nerds it also implies the guard is well over 600 years old, which I find hilarious
🎶These motherfuckers mean to harm us, and they got to go, so come on get ‘em now.”🎶 and 🎶“Me and my boys are gonna fuck you up!”🎶 is now two of my go to Bardic Inspiration lines.
With "It Must Have Been The Wind", you were close with your thinking on the guard but I just wanted to clarify that the part about the guard putting the Dragonborn (player) in prison. He wasn't attacking the city the guard is a member of, he was actively helping defend the city the guard worked for, and was put in prison for helping try to stop the attack, which I think makes that scene even funnier.
If you use shouts in settlements the guards will actually approach you and tell you to stop, though I don't think they'll actually try to arrest you unless you hit anyone.
Tom plays backing music for a live comedy show called Dragon Friends where a bunch of comedians play D&D, and in recent seasons he’s also played a few NPCs. As far as I know this is his main exposure to the game and inspiration for the song.
I’m 99% sure that the whole reason that “It Must Have Been The Wind” was created was because one of the Chalkeaters were playing Skyrim and got that game breaking bug where the Guards will still try and arrest you during the Siege of Whiterun.
So... At the end of "Just the wind" song it was Paimon from Genshin Impact, with a bottle full of Dailies (Daily Quests with Primogem (common reward) shape). Right when doctor said to "play less those addictive games".
The real beauty of Must Have Been the Wind is in the little details you don't pick up until rewatch: There's a Lusty Argonian Maid, the guy selling Skyrim is meant to be Todd Howard, the dance Dragonborn is doing is apparently a JoJo Reference, I believe someone said some of the guys without helmets are Fugdemuppet, and my favourite, more heartwarming than funny, the song doesn't really gain momentum in stopping the battle until he's saved the other two guards, and of course he never got an arrow in the knee - he was never an adventurer like us.
I love seeing someone experience Tom Cardy for the first time. It's truly magical. No doubt in my mind. This man hyper focused and watched all his content immediately afterwards lol. It's what I did and now shaking Tom Cardy's brilliant hand is on my bucket list lol
I'm a huge TC fan, I love watching and rewatching his stuff, but reacting first time to his stuff is always fun. I also hope to shake his hand one day...especially since I've been able to award him two separate trophies for his work. 😅
Time for my 'Um, Actually,' moment because I never get the opportunity: You might laugh at the term Vicious Mockery but it's a real spell in D&D - it's a staple of the Bard class (though it's defended by a saving throw so there's no way to roll a "natural 20" when casting it). Tom Cardy is heavily involved with a D&D podcast/live show so he possibly knows this and is just playing up the stereotype of this kind of player... or just forgot/didn't read the spell. I'd believe either, tbh.
"It Must Have Been the Wind" isn't about not being perceptive or being blind to the world around you, its about not letting those things effect your outlook, not letting the those things blind you to the beauty of the world. By singing the song to the other guards he gets them to stop fighting somebody else's war and just enjoy time together as the friends they were before being conscripted. If somebody stole your sweet roll, don't let it ruin your mood, there are other sweet rolls out there.
the chalkeaters character you saw is named professor chalk and hes from the songus amongus vid he basically gone insane from among us shaped things and the next song is 100% about genshin impact
I didn't even start the video yet and I was already thinking "'My boys are gonna mess you up!', 'I rolled a one", 'I rolled a one', 'They're otherwise engaged'" and the first song you were reacting to was the very song 😅
Ok, those first lines made me laugh! Sorry that you're tired! As for explaining jokes...there are lots of references I don't necessarily get, so I appreciate the explanation so I, too, can find amusement. Skyrim came out 11/11/11. So it's been almost 12 years since it first came out. Random RPG comedy song: Races. Originally by JoCat (Crap Guide to D&D, has full animation), covered by CamiKat (Xerox-grade cover! but limited animation), runs through all of the races in 5e in song form.
The dragonborn was actually protecting Whiterun from the Stormcloaks so the guard imprisoning him for making him nervous with the thu'um is twice as hilarious 😂
Must have been the wind i feel is also kinda about not letting the things that happened and not to get you down obviously to the nth degree. Especially obvious in the verse about how to let go when somebody stole the dear sweet roll and to carry on. Also the teaser at the end is for genshin impact
I have to say, you do NOT get more Big Rock and Roll Energy than having two freaking dragons showing up to rock out on stage and provide pyrotechnics. Must have been the wind is so freaking catchy I have to go look it up myself. Excellent.
@Insane_Ian you've GOT to check out the Brian David Gilbert & Tom Cardy collaboration; "A Beautiful Mind." I'm sure you agree that from the paring alone it's worth your time.
That is Todd Howard selling Skyrim!! Also the background of the guard growing up first in Morrowind with a netch in the background and then Cyrodiil under the Oblivion crisis! Great song and so many details!
Somebody stealing your sweetroll is actually much older than Skyrim. It started all the way back in the first Elder Scrolls game, Arena, and every in house Bethesda game since has had a reference to sweet rolls getting stolen in it somewhere
That character at the end is Paimon for Genshn, presumably suggesting that the next song is about Genshin, and with the whole doctor thing about not playing these addicting games, it'll likely be a song about the addictive nature of Genshin. Also, that Tom Cardy song is absolutely hilarious
When this song first released a few months ago all I could do was listen to it on youtube, I memorized the entire thing and now that it's on spotify you know damn well I'm singing it in the shower
So, i just thought to search tom cardy reaction and stumbled upon your video about H.S INSTANT SUBSCRIBE from ME! Can't believe songs that i like is actually called comedy music, love your breakdown, can't wait for more
I accidentally forgot to watch this one because I've never played Skyrim but my spouse has, so I had to set aside time to watch with them. Finally did it! We were both howling (as the wind also tends to do). Edit: Now that I'm rewatching... I think "Must Have Been the Wind" might be the perfect counterpart to "Welcome to the Black Parade."
"Wait, was that a notification of a new Insane Ian video? ... ... No, it must have been the wind." Oh how I love how the silliest of songs turn out to be the catchiest, most memorable ones.
the next Chalkeater video is out... maybe 2 in a week... even if you don't know Genshin Impact. it has alot of jokes targeted at Microtransactions in general
I just realized what happened at the end. The two leaders realizing that their armies have abandoned them and they have no one left to fight on behalf of their grudges against each other.
A great meme song! By the way, the famous guard meme about taking an arrow through the knee is never said in this song because this specific guard was never an adventurer, so he never took an arrow through the knee
You're coming here?? To Ohio?? Personally I don't recommend that. This place is terrifying. But you can do whatever you wish, I suppose! Welcome! It's mostly fields!

Yea u completely lost me I have no idea what your even trying to say. It’s too confusing 😂. Y’all think way too much into this.
@@Mark73Nah it’s definitely about them being oblivious 😂.
The fact that Tom says "Child" at the same time as the DM as if this is a common occurrence in their campaigns is freaking hilarious
he also says "it's always a kid" so yeah, definitely happens a lot. which means his promises to be better are completely hollow
fun fact; tom cardy's flute in the video is not a flute, it's a drumstick. a lot of people never notice that until it's pointed out!
