Fun fact- the synth drums and bass were from a demo years ago before my computer got fried and I could only use them as an already bounced out compressed audio file. A lot of creative choices were actually because of that limitation, which I think is what makes things good!

Brian's look of childlike, wondrous shock at 2:28 is so pitch-perfectly hilarious. It's like a little kid who thinks his parents are taking him to the dentist but they're actually going to Disneyland.
I'm actually obsessed with the journey the synths take in this; the opening being very arpeggiated and off kilter, then moving into longer and more cohesive phrases; the transition from spoken intro with that off-kilter beat in the background to a steady heartbeat; and from that to the synths harmonizing with the vocals during the chorus. Mirrors the story SO WELL, i can't get over it.
I will never get over how talented both of these men are, and how fortunate we are that they use this incredible production and musicality to do silly internet videos.
This is honestly the collab none of us know we wanted but now that we have it it's the collab we obviously needed, I think I've listened to it at least 12 times by now.
I knew I wanted it. I even commented that I wanted a BDG collab under a Tom Cardy video so does this mean I have the power to manifest my desires with a single request? Next request: eliminate wealth inequality (a choice I would prefer over riches for me specifically)
That was...incredible. This was a duo I never knew I needed, but now can't understand how I could ever have done without. And the editing is just masterful. They even made it look like an Australian was in the same room as an American. That'd be zany.
The fact that all your songs are subtitled makes them unironically some of the most accessible on youtube. The fact that I don't even need to turn on subs for this one AT ALL doubly so. Thanks from the HH gang BDG.🧡
You know what else is beautiful? That incredible transition from the Tom Cardy content format to the BDG one. Also all the matching outfits, and switching clothes with eachother when they switch the therapist/patient role. I rate this video very good out of 5.
It never occurred to me that you both would do a collaboration. From both of your singles and albums , it's clear that this was meant to be. This has been such a treat. Keep up the beautiful minds!
I have to say, Tom Cardy brought me here and I couldn't be happier that he did. You are so full of talent and seeing both of you work together, it's an unstoppable duo. I'm a happy subscriber now and am excited to see more in the future! Love your spooky covers, especially the Bee Dee Gee's Hee Bee Bee Gees Stayin' Alive, by the way. Those are fantastic and you have some SERIOUS PIPES, my guy.
If you want to enjoy those pipes in a more natural setting, Brian used to be in a band! It's called The Altogether and he features heavily as a vocalist on the album Silo and the EP Look Up as well as some other singles and the song Jubal & I from the latest album Fences. While you're there, just listen to all of their stuff! Sierra and Jonah Scott are equally incredible
He also had a podcast with his wife and his sister called Let's Make a Music where they make a silly (but extremely well produced) song every episode which is excellent

@@bradoliver9324Ah the loop is what I didn’t do, right you are. Maybe I can complete it when NSP collaborates with Tom Cardy. However, I did get to know Jazz Emu from TWRP. I might edit it a bit more accurately.
I like how the editing in the first scene uses the vertical video and on-screen captioning that are present in the TikTok style of Tom Cardy. The way everything blends so perfectly, from the lyrics to the little details like that, proves that the two of you truly share a beautiful mind.
no matter how much or how often i watch this i cant stop wondering why, from the first time i watched it, the "Speed 2" joke feels like a running gag, when really i dont think I've ever heard that name ever before. like the first time i head the words it feels funny as if an old joke was being referenced when actually, the words were only mentioned 2 times in this one video, and its the FIRST of those times that give me the feeling of having heard it before. how can they so flawlessly give the feeling of continuing an inside joke without actually doing so???
This is the duo we didn't know we need, but the only one that can pull humanity to salvation PD: I'm not surprised by the amount of overlap of Tom and BGD fans out there
This song is the perfect combination of BDG and Tom Cardy. You can see their respective influences and it creates something amazing. Thank you for your work!
The whiplash I experience going from “doctor holding a big bottle of tonic, but the bottle’s full of rings and the doctor is sonic”, which has a beautifully smooth cadence and bounce, to “Jimmy Fallon with a hat on” is indescribable Beautiful song from two beautiful men, good work gents
the way this song implies that it is so impossibly unthinkable to imagine Jimmy Fallon wearing a hat that you literally need to have the most incredible imagination in existence to do so gets me every time
Man, this is a work of art. Not just the music, the way this is edited is super cool, with them starting out in the vertical tiktok format and progressing to being in the same room. The story is also very creative.
Definitely did not A) crow in joy upon discovering this, B) shout with glee when Brian and Tom arrived in the same room, or C) watch this five times in a row. It's difficult to imagine a more perfect collaboration, because this is overwhelmingly amazing. Dying to know who called who first.
Not me. The doctor says that concussed monkeys stabbing each other with balloon swords is "Actually not something im supposed to see in inkblot tests" and "deeply worrying"
Y'ALL. I have loved you both separately for so long, then you come and do this?! And as an art therapist I am dying for this theme LMAO. Come onnnnnn 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I cannot get over how good this song is, the transition as Tom says "Give it to me straight doc, what do you see" not only feels natural but is also a surprising twist, and how he's now wearing the same sweater, or how when they disagree on the rorschach test, they aren't wearing the same outfit anymore, but immediately are again when they reconcile, the whispers of Speed 2 when we hear Brian's obsessions, which is payed off when of course, one of the rorschach tests reminds him of Speed 2, the insane overlappnig point where its clear both Tom and Brian have like, the exact same face structure.
I never expected when I signed up to BDGs patreon how much joy it would bring me to feel like I helped him make the things he makes. This feeling is wild, y'all.
I can't agree more. It seems from some of his videos and talks he has some deep angst, but I hope he sees comments like this and understands how much solace he brings to his followers. ❤We love you bro.❤
Both the patient and the doctor see beautiful and creative things in the ink blobs, and presumably, everything else in life as well. The patient is confident, stating that he knows his mind is beautiful. The psychiatrist, however, has been taught to be insecure about the unique way his mind views the world, as seen in the flashback. He doesn’t know that his mind is beautiful. Where the patient can clearly see him and the psychiatrist as beautiful things in the ink blob, the doctor can only see a tree, as he, unlike the patient, doesn’t realize that he himself is anything beautiful. However, by spending time with and relating to the patient who sees their creativity as something beautiful, the doctor finally comes to realize that his mind is not something to be ashamed of, but rather that it is something beautiful. Amazing work guys. Y’all got beautiful minds.
adding on to this, the amount of layers they have on represent this, with the more they wear the more guarded they are about their true thoughts. The doctor is hiding his true thoughts in the beginning, so he wears a sweater over his outfit, whereas the patient who is allowing himself some vulnerability has one fewer layer with only a dress shirt. Eventually they switch roles, with the patient putting up a front in order to help the doctor express his thoughts, as shown with them switching outfits. And in the end even after their disagreement with the tree, they both decide to completely expose themselves to the world, with them both stripping down to shorts and a tank top thus showing how they have no need to protect themselves from others and can embrace their beautiful minds together
There’s only so many times people can say “I never knew I needed this collab until i saw it” but, yeah. That. I also reiterate the comment that this pairing might be too powerful. Their combined musical magical might needs to be contained.
The attention to detail in this video is insane! The directional audio during the tree debate is wild, and the fact that the white text goes purple as it interacts with the background is actually insane. I can't imagine how long it took to make this, but it came out perfect
After talking with some friends a couple months ago about how we would love to see two of our favourite RUclips musicians collab on a song, it was an absolute delight to learn our dream became a reality. And what's more is that it's everything we hoped for and more
Again I’m just blown away by the layers of music-making in this! The tight harmonies, their falsettos, the progression, and then of course the genius lyrics themselves. Seriously awesome work!!
This is incredible. My two lockdown comedy favs teaming up to make a video that is sure to make my wife say “isn’t that the guy from that LOTR song about walking?”
This is legitimately incredible from a musical perspective. The production values are off the charts and 99% of pop can't hold a candle to the complexity. The lyrics and the comedic conceit are of course the highlight but I could literally listen to an instrumental of this.
0:54 I'm so glad this continues the Tom Cardy collab tradition of having a given song's most ear-worm section sounding completely unhinged out of context.

1. Song slaps
2. The editing is freaking phenomenal! Genuinely compliments the song so perfectly while also being chaotic and weird!
3. I am scared to want more from this combo as I’m afraid yall are too powerful together
The mixing on this is MASTERFUL. Also cannot express how cool it was to have the split-screen false start transition into an on-site collab. Great song for a great time
Fun fact- the synth drums and bass were from a demo years ago before my computer got fried and I could only use them as an already bounced out compressed audio file. A lot of creative choices were actually because of that limitation, which I think is what makes things good!
@tomcardy1 What made you bring them back specifically for this project? Also what lead you guys to actually collabing?

I love the costume synchronicity. Starts off with Tom suddenly wearing the therapist outfit, which is par for the course. But by the end, Brian is wearing Tom's classic vest and shorts combo.
They really are both of a beautiful mind.
Vest? You mean the white singlet?
where in the world are you from that you call a white singlet a vest???? (BTW, in Australia a white singlet sometimes has the nicname a "wife-beater" see if you can guess why.)
I'm English, and I call that a white vest. A sleeveless plain white top. I think they only call them singlets in Australia and New Zealand.
(I did also know about the Wife Beater thing, American's use it too, but am understandably not fond of that name.)
(very fair, it is a very unpleasent name. actually suprised that Aussie/NZ have our own slang some times. most of the stuff Americans are weirded out by in Australia is just british. now I gotta look up where the name singlet comes from)@@ApetureTestSubject

The concept of one psychiatrist saying what he sees in an Rorschach ink blot test and the other responding with "yes" made me laugh so hard.

The way this moment lingers is just perfect.
Omg yes, I marvel at it every time. Scripted but so natural, just perfect as you said.

You know, I don’t know what I expected from your collab, but “A psychiatrist and patient realize they share a mind through the power of Rorschach tests” probably wasn’t it.

YES
Clearly they are
This video is clearly unedited footage of BDG & Tom Cardy's first irl meeting
@@nolaffinmatter Yeah, I imagine they were planning on collabing, and while brianstorming they ended up realizing they thought similarly and just did this without trying. Even including 2:30-2:50.
"That was fun, but let's get back to that collab." "Wait a minute."
edit a week later: I just realized I wrote "BRIANstorming" by mistake, what a great typo
The short bit from 2:05 to 2:10 is some of the most mind boggling editing I’ve ever seen.
what so absolutely haunting about this to me is that literally last week i was telling a friend that tom cardy was like an australian brian david gilbert and now theres not only a tom cardy/bdg collab, but the collab in question is about them having the same mind. the main difference between the two of yall is your editing styles, but this is the exact fusion of those two things. its giving me chills
For having intelligent commentary that assists people such as myself in directing the world stage, you shall have your 200th thumb from me. Please continue to utilize that fabulous mind of yours, we need the feedback to make a quality future.
Looks like someone just awakened their beautiful mind
I wouldn't put it past either of them if they did it specifically to mess with you, specifically.
i love the way you can hear their respective music and editing styles come together in this one, such a great collab
It’s been 4 days since this masterpiece released and I have had “Jimmy Fallon with a hat on” ringing through my head constantly ever since
That line has no business being so catchy
It reminds me a ton of old Schmoyoho stuff in cadence.
I had that part going round and round in my head for my entire shift today, it’s so satisfying to sing.
Big same
That part is the shortest and easiest to remember, I'm guessing that's why it's the one infecting our minds
Sometimes being an insomniac pays off, because I get to watch BDG at 3 AM with the Demons and VVitches.

This is honestly the collab none of us know we wanted but now that we have it it's the collab we obviously needed, I think I've listened to it at least 12 times by now.
Thems rookie numbers son
@interlooper83 snickers bar, what's your rookie mistake?
Of course we wanted!
I knew I wanted it. I even commented that I wanted a BDG collab under a Tom Cardy video so does this mean I have the power to manifest my desires with a single request? Next request: eliminate wealth inequality (a choice I would prefer over riches for me specifically)
Speak for yourself, i dreamt about the day they were going to meet for years
we did it. random humor from 2010 has come back around and is now also good and funny again. i cant believe it
That was...incredible. This was a duo I never knew I needed, but now can't understand how I could ever have done without. And the editing is just masterful. They even made it look like an Australian was in the same room as an American. That'd be zany.

Two beautiful minds coming together!
OMG! Just noticed at 2:45 Brian has the Earring from Tom. They did really unite their minds
The fact that all your songs are subtitled makes them unironically some of the most accessible on youtube.
The fact that I don't even need to turn on subs for this one AT ALL doubly so.

Oh my god YES it's so lovely to have them be a part of the video too like they're not just there, they're actually A Part of the video
You know what else is beautiful? That incredible transition from the Tom Cardy content format to the BDG one.
Also all the matching outfits, and switching clothes with eachother when they switch the therapist/patient role. I rate this video very good out of 5.
I am glad someone else called out he style and clothes swap. It made me happy inside too.
the change of format makes me so happy oh my god. this collab is everything i didn't know i needed
Never expected a collab between you two but I definitely should've, this is wonderful
Never expected, but definitely should've is right. The circle is complete. Polygon > BDG > Tom Cardy > Montaigne > My Brother My Brother and Me > Polygon.
@@bradoliver9324Nah same but entirely different pipeline. NSP > Louie Zong > MBMBAM > Polygon > BDG > TWRP > Jazz Emu > Value Select > Tom Cardy.
@@qwertysub2038No perfect loop there though.
Also, can you elaborate on the BDG/TWRP connection?
@@bradoliver9324Ah the loop is what I didn’t do, right you are. Maybe I can complete it when NSP collaborates with Tom Cardy. As for the connection I realized that I messed it up a bit as I kind of did know a bit of TWRP from NSP but was recommended again from youtube and started really listening to them more frequently around the same time I found BDG. However, I did get to know Jazz Emu from TWRP. I might edit it a bit more accurately.
BDG songs never fail to be incredibly amusing and genuinely good to listen to
Likewise for Tom's. Match made in heaven
This is the duo we didn't know we need, but the only one that can pull humanity to salvation
PD: I'm not surprised by the amount of overlap of Tom and BGD fans out there
You think we can get some Weird Al?
This song is the perfect combination of BDG and Tom Cardy. You can see their respective influences and it creates something amazing. Thank you for your work!
The whiplash I experience going from “doctor holding a big bottle of tonic, but the bottle’s full of rings and the doctor is sonic”, which has a beautifully smooth cadence and bounce, to “Jimmy Fallon with a hat on” is indescribable
Beautiful song from two beautiful men, good work gents
That electronic slide to the beat in between those two lines blows my nuts off
the way this song implies that it is so impossibly unthinkable to imagine Jimmy Fallon wearing a hat that you literally need to have the most incredible imagination in existence to do so gets me every time
Man, this is a work of art.

The Doctor Sonic line lives rent free in my head
The drop at 1:35 gave me HUGE chills and I don't know if I've ever gotten chills from something that confuses me at the same time but I LOVE it.
Listen to more Tom Cardy songs then, they all have amazing beat drops
And in the end even after their disagreement with the tree, they both decide to completely expose themselves to the world, with them both stripping down to shorts and a tank top thus showing how they have no need to protect themselves from others and can embrace their beautiful minds together
and how they both stand in the same shape as the ink blot when they wear the top and shorts!!!
The harmonization at 2:35 really sounds like Weird Al to me for some reason. I love it.
The lyrics and concept are soo BDG but the song and acting is so Tom Cardy, truly a meeting of beautiful minds.

This is legitimately incredible from a musical perspective. The production values are off the charts and 99% of pop can't hold a candle to the complexity. The lyrics and the comedic conceit are of course the highlight but I could literally listen to an instrumental of this.

I'm so glad this continues the Tom Cardy collab tradition of having a given song's most ear-worm section sounding completely unhinged out of context.
