    I had the same guitar as that one for about 20 year's and I never had to have a set up done the whole time I owned it and it always stayed in tune as long as I kept new strings on it every 6 months .. Awesome guitar

    Best demo I've seen by far of the Epiphone Les Paul Classic. The pickups sound great and I really like the out of phase tone. To me, this guitar seems like a Standard 60s but with modern switching options, especially with the slim taper neck, ebony finish (same finish offered in the Standard 60s) and the gold knobs with reflectors that also come on the Standard 60s. And the Classic is $100 less.

    I just purchased this guitar about a month ago and love it. The one I got is 8lbs dead even and though it's light it feels solid and stays in tune. The pickups are hot, the coil-splitting and phase switch give you a lot of flexibility. The only thing I didn't care for was the cream colored pickguard, toggle switch, pickup rings and the zebra style. This is all subjective of course so it may not bother you. I ended up buying all new parts in gloss black to replace the cream colored ones and also got chrome pickup covers for around $30. Not only does this thing sound awesome, it looks absolutely stunning now too!

    I just sold a Gibson Les Paul Faded T and I'm looking to replace it with something more affordable. I loved the sound of the 490 pickups. The Epiphone looks like a good replacement for me. From what I've been able to hear, the Classic PRO pickups sound a little brighter than some of the other options and I like that. Thanks for the deep dive into the electronics and demo.

    Had my honeyburst classic since 2020 and can’t fault it. Only thing I’ve done is replace the knobs with gold bells and glue the nut that was loose like in another of your Epiphone reviews. The pickups are my favourite in this guitar.

      I wish they would bring back P90 models, especially with the newer versions of their guitars. Such as the 61 Les Paul, and even the Slash Victoria as well as I believe one other model that it’s done in Ebony, that none of which have veneers on them. Which is the direction I had always hoped they would go. Personally, I don’t care if they have multiple piece tops because if they’re going to paint over them, we’re not going to see them. And even if they were natural tops, it’s something I would be willing to except especially say on a natural custom. so far it looks like things are headed that way, especially now that the price points on some of the guitars are reaching out of the low end of Gibson. les Paul, senior models would be an excellent addition as well even though the Jared James Nichols is pretty much the first version of that as far as this company goes.

  • @barcham
    @barcham Год назад +4

    One thing I love about the CLASSIC is that you can get it in a burst plain top. I am so tired of flame tops, and considering that on an Epi, either way you are getting a veneer top, I will take a plain top every day, they are just much more unique and everyone goes for a flame top, so a plain top will stand out more. Unfortunately, these are still around $749 here in Canada so I will try to get a friend of mine in China to get me some prices over there to see if it will come out cheaper. 😋
    EDIT: I misspoke about plain tops also being covered with a veneer. As far as I am aware, plain tops have never been covered with a veneer.

      I could be wrong, but I don’t think the plain top has a veneer

    • @barcham
      @barcham Год назад

      @@therollband1290 Plain tops do not have any veneer. They have never had a veneer as far as I am aware. What annoys me is that the CLASSIC is the only Les Paul available from Epiphone today in a plain top finish. In years past, most of the line was available in both plain and plus top, with a premium charged for the plus top flame veneer finish. Sometime down the line, they stopped producing the plain top finish and for a number of years it was not available at all, until the CLASSIC came out. Some of the most beautiful Epiphone Les Pauls I have ever seen were Elitist plain tops, but I was never fortunate enough to get my hands on one. I believe that it is actually cheaper to cover a less than perfect appearing piece of maple with a flame veneer than it is to find a flawless piece of maple to use for a plain top, which is why the plus/flame tops have become so ubiquitous in the Epiphone lineup.
      I did have an Elitist Gold Top and an Elitist 61 SG Faded, but had to sell them after I had a major heart attack and needed the money to pay bills. Now, almost 10 years later, I want to get another LP, but the Elitists are impossible to find these days, so I will most likely get a CLASSIC and will finally have the plain top I have always wanted. But if anyone out there ever comes across an Elitist or other Japanese Epiphone at a really good price, I advise you to jump on it immediately. Do not think twice, just buy it. You will have a guitar that rivals if not surpasses the quality of most Gibsons short of a Custom Shop guitar, and even give a few of those a run for their money.

I plan on refinishing the guitar when I get the active pickups. I’m a huge fan of Les Paul guitars and I need more. That Epiphone sounds great and it’s versatile for any genre of music. I wouldn’t use the coil split as I don’t care for that feature. I changed mine out to regular A500k pots. Best of luck to anyone who wins that Gibson Les Paul. Guitar Hunchback Syndrome really sucks the joy out of having a cool guitar and life in general. Please review the Boaz One guitar next. It looks like hes really making them as a one guitar solution, really-maybe. We are eventually going to see a one guitar does it all go mainstream which will be a mind boggler and something for a good dialogue.

      All will feature a slim taper neck except the Standard 50s with a thicker neck. The modern is asymmetrical slim. I would skip the Modern and decide on one of the others based on what neck shape you want:
      Slim - Classic, Standard, 60s
      Thicker - 50s Standard
      Any of those are good choices, you can find them here: www.zzounds.com/a--3979398
      Thanks for watching!

      That’s the sound I use. I have a Classic, just as in this review except it’s Honeyburst, and have been really happy with the clean tones I can get from it. I haven’t played the others - I wanted the variety of tones available on this model - but I’ve been able to get the sound I want from the Classic very easily.

    I would prefer this guitar in a satin finish because that is what I'm used on my worn G-400 neck. I think it would be possible to take out some of the gloss on this one's neck but I would have to learn how to do that. I really like this guitar though. Awesome review! Thanks. L & S'd.

    Are you planning on reviewing the prophecy les paul, or the Cantrell wino? Both under $1k.

      @@PlayandTradeGuitars most likely one will be my next purchase, I went to get one a few months ago and fell in love with a prs se custom semi-hollow, but as much as I love it I was chasing something with a tune-o-matic, but damn that 25" prs scale length is addictive. So back to the hunt. Knowing there was a price drop on the prophecy is good info.

    hey i have a question, i got the guitar and the tone knob that doesn’t have a phase switch moves a little slower and smooth but not as fast like the others that push pull, is that normal?

    • @PlayandTradeGuitars
      @PlayandTradeGuitars  Год назад

      Yes since the guitar uses different types of pots you can feel a difference sometimes. Also, is the knob itself pushed down too far against the body? If it doesn't have any clearance above the body it can slow things down too. Thanks for watching

    Seriously, love the reviews, and I've been drooling over the Gibson Classic for a long time. This might scratch the itch a bit, but those are not the same tones as the '61's put out. Just my opinion.
