Tyler Guyton Draft Profile:
- The 'Good' from Chat Sports' Tom Downey (@whatgoingdowney on Twitter):
Moves well for size, strong anchor, versatile can play both guard and tackle.
- via The Athletic's Dane Brugler:
Guyton is a work in progress in several areas and a steep learning curve should be expected for his rookie season, but he has the athletic tools and fundamental skills to develop into a high-level offensive tackle. He has the talent to play left or right tackle...
GRADE: 1st-2nd Round (No. 27 overall)
- via PFF:
Guyton is a rare athlete for an offensive tackle. His foot speed and stride length for a player of his size are impressive, allowing him to mirror without overextending. He can fire off the ball quickly, which gives him a good punch at contact. However, his strike targets to defenders' bodies and his hand placement are inconsistent, which has caused him to be more of a pusher than a blocker.
- Downey's 'Bad':
Needs to improve pass protection skills; Struggles with speed rushers; Can be inconsistent in technique.

It’s an A from me, we got a starter and a third round pick
Exactly
Factss
Thank you! I fell asleep and didn't get the details of the trade but it's a good trade and a 3rd was a sweet deal...
Hes not a starter. Hes a project that is likely competing with udoga for tackle. He's got insane agility and footwork but he's so new to the position that he needs a lot of work
You must not have watched any sooner games. I did. Guyton not 1 time ever jumped off the screen. Terrible pick
Good thing Tyler Biadasz left...3 Tylers would have been weird. 🤪
It was weird enough already with the tongue-twisting Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, and Tyler Biadasz to concentrate on often 😮
@@jeremyx3758 facts!
Yeah that would have been
Lmfao!!!!
I’m mad about it we should have kept him and Tyron, played Guyton at RT and had 4 Ty’s on the OL
Look Tyler “smith” everyone says he will be a bust and now iS all pro soooo
Smith was at least a bully that just needed refinement. Guyton is a project that has crazy potential but he needs time to grow and learn how to play left tackle.
the two aren't comparable at all, Tyler always had guard upside, Guyton does not.
I really don't remember much people saying he was a bust you might be confused with Frederick... but everyone was saying what you were saying about taco charlton.
They didn’t say he was a bust but they did say they didn’t like the pick because he wasn’t a big name guy @@user-of6qz6up2t
I honestly think they should just keep him at right tackle, cut steele and keep bass at LG
A+. Watched him at Oklahoma, loved him. Not just grading the player but grading the player/trade combo. Absolute A+. MUCH better than last year
Trade was great, not sold on the player. Happy to be wrong though.
Agreed !! This is a W pick
I to watched alot of sooner games. Not 1 time did I ever think damn that guy is gonna be a beast in the nfl.
An A. A very athletic man with no injury history. Huge wingspan. With solid coaching, can be a 10,+ year starter. He was the blind side protector at Oklahoma for a lefty QB. Had the highest vertical leap of any tackle at the Combine. Plus he will be playing at home, a Cowboy fan since birth.
Tom was not sold on Tyler Smith. Cowboys great on OL high picks.
Tyler Guyton is my Hero! Any chance if they pick up Frazier or Beebe or an interior guy at 56 that Guyton is actually Steele's replacement?
I think Guyton will be the LT, they will take j brooks in the 2nd and will try for either Zach or Beebe in the 3rd.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that's true, they will take a RB, but I would be excited with a Guyton, Smith, Frazier, Martin, line up. And maybe a Wright at RB.
Jerry just gave Steele $60 MILLION.... But it's Jerry.
@@jackburton4892 Yeah I agree, but I'm talking about like two years from now and it's 50mil guaranteed. I know Steele will be on the team for the foreseeable future. Which is good he could be swing at 10mil a year for like 3 years.
@@Rand0mCommenterZach Frazier will never last till 3rd
"Until a player proves their worth on the field, they are considered a draft bust." I will evaluate their performance during the season.
Nobody cares to be honest.. if you are judging a guy off 1 season, that's your 1st mistake.
Did you put that in quotes for a reason?
Well until a GM proves his worth I consider it a bust.
WTH are you talking about
😂😂😂 wut? Lmmfao. Dude, delete this, you still have time lol.
That fan that had that picture of Jerry crossed out is my hero he gets it 😂😂
I don’t get how any of our fans still love Jerry. He’s great as a businessman and moneymaker but as a GM is terrible and has always been. Will McClay is the only reason we aren’t basement dwellers perennially.
LETS GO BRUH!!! This who I wanted AND we traded back to get a 3rd and still got him!!! He raw but that’s just how Tyler smith was and look how he turned out. Let’s go! Best cowboys move this offseason!
makes no sense. its daks last year of his contract, why would you draft a project OT ??
@@Jigolopuff…teams gonna continue to be around weather Dak is there or not. He’s way better than what we got rn and he will get great training and coaching in the off season and will be ready for the season and will continue to get better the more practice and reps he gets
@@austindh23yea I agree. Whether Dak is at center or not you always need a solid line.
A+ You get a potential Pro Bowl Left Tackle and add an early 3rd Round Draft pick instead of a potential All Pro/Pro Bowl Center.
If there is one thing dallas has done right in the last 20 years it's drafting offensive lineman. Remember what people were saying about Tyler Smith now he's projecting to be one of the best in history.
A, i trust dallas front office about few things but drafting 1st round lineman... they seem to know how to do it and now they can potentially add a RB or C in the 3rd with the extra pick
we need both soon
Dallas should draft Matt Lee, Center out of Miami. Round 5 would be amazing
Agree. Loved his film.
I was tracking how fast their war room clocks ran. I noticed the first took the entire time but made sense since they got a trade. But then the second time, they chose immediately. I feel confident that the team believes in this man so I’m pumped as long as they continue to fill the most needed holes
Smooth Dancing Bear and a Premium Position ! what a steal !
day 2 is very deep this year, that 3rd round pick could very well turn this into an amazing decision in hindsight especially since we traded our 4th for lance
Getting a third round pick is awesome, especially there wasn't that much between the the two tackles mentioned! So how could you give a B-?
A+!! This is a fantastic pick! He was actually who i wanted since draft talk started. LOVE this pick.
Draft Grade: B+/A-. Personally I hope Dallas get E. Cooper and Sweat in addition to a RB. I'd be happy with Jaylon Wright or Isaac Guerendo as the RB.
Based on your opening summations of #1-
Dallas still got OT Guyton and #2-
You stated yourself, Tom, that Detroit cemented a significant overpay with a 3rd rd pick to move up 5 spots with us...
That was your opinion
I'll give it an A grade given the fact that draft experts normally feel that late 1st rd picks are basically 2nd rd graded players anyway...
Likewise, they are the same with, for example, late 2nd rd picks are easily graded as 3rd rd picks
Therefore
There's really nothing to gripe about here
Iow...
Sounds pretty good to me
You said it best Tom. The one position group I’ve learned to not question is OL. I trust them in this dept
Bb
My Money says they grab a HB in round 3
2 we’re getting brooks
RB is rd 2 and it’s brooks
Wth would we give them a 7th rd pick for them to move up..makes no sense
A-
We moved down and filled a need with a guy who is very solid now and has so much potential.
I might be biased since I’m a OU fan but coming from a guy who’s watched a lot of his snaps and reps last year I am very happy!!
Hoping tomorrow is even better🫡
Now. I'm grading the position because of the fact that they got the player that they wanted so. I say A+ on that.
When was the last time Dallas missed with a first round OL draft pick?
Good question🤔. I was thinking the same thing.
@@Martin-mp5th I trust the Cowboys when they draft O-Lineman in round one
I remember people being skeptical about Tyler Smith so I feel like this pick could be good. Our 1st round OL picks have always been good to great.
Potential picks
1 - Tyler Guyton LT
2 - Edgerrin Cooper LB
3 - Jonathan Brooks RB
3 - Sedrick Van Pran C
I like the Guyton pick. If you watch his film he has really good footwork, his ability to stay square and keep the dline in front of him on pass pro is good for someone who was originally a TE so he has excellent athleticism and you can see it. His run blocking is good as we gets to the second level. He is raw but I see a high ceiling for this man under the Dallas Oline coaching staff. At the least, I give this pick a B+. But now I think we can actually get JPJ if he is still available. And then focus on the defense and RB position.
Absolutely love the trade, I feel like we had our eyes on Guyton the whole time, so we got out guy and and early 3rd, great work
Well, Lineman are not flashy picks, but the whole offence starts with them. I remember the lines of the 90's. Nate Newton, Eric Williams, Stepnoski, and so on. The Cowboys really sucked the first year, but they became one of the best in the game.
If you don’t grade this shit an A or better then fans are LOST! to get Guyton and get the 73 pick was phenomenal, We now can draft 4 Top 100 players and if they nail them that’s 4 young STARTERS for position of need! Excellent job front office 👏
this was actually a steal
if you understand the upside and how we got the 3rd round extra and he was the best tackle left plus hes 6'7 320 with a nasty attitude! that was the value plus if you train this monster and dak dont work out he can be the long run LT.
Adding in the 3rd pick as well it's a B+. Hope we don't regret passing on Barton. Let's see where JPJ goes.
When I saw the ESPN pro comparison for Guyton was Lane Johnson, I saw it as a W. 😂

Dallas is my NFL team and OU is my college team so I'm happy with this pick. He has some huge shoes to fill so hopefully he has a strong work ethic.
hey they did something right they still got their guy and got a third round pick if we can do that in the second as well they will be doing ok get an extra 4th

The trade was great but I'm not to hype about the pick. Really wanted Barton if only for being able to get the interior solidfied first. OT in later rounds.

I give the first round draft an A-. Guyton is a brawler, moves well and is well coached. I watched film on him, and was very impressed. He will have some times where he disappoints, but has the potential to be the top 3 of O-Line of his class. I'm excited! The plus is we get an extra pick in the 3rd! We can use the extra pick!
That was a GREAT PICK...HE IS A MONSTER.. GRADE A
Can't wait till the season starts to get to watch another one and done in the playoffs 🙄
A starting it was him or mims that we would get in glad we got him he is alittle raw but is an agressive blocker
Tom keeps you up-to-date with everything Dallas Cowboys on Twitter: x.com/whatgoingdowney
Im not sure how I like this move by the Cowboys though. To trade back from 5 spots and getting an extra 3rd is interesting but we needed extra picks in this draft and to only give up #24 and a future 7th might be good value I guess. Guyton is a raw player but he has to be coached up to play LT and I think he's gonna be great down the road. The good thing about this is that you're gonna have both Tylers here for the next 10 years barring injury. I mean we will see what happens tomorrow on Day 2 of the draft to see what they get in rounds 2 and 3. If I have to give this a grade, I would give it a B- at the moment. Maybe Guyton comes in and is the secret weapon on the O line that we need. The front office is not done yet because I think they need to get a center in this draft. Hunter Nourzad out of Penn State will be there in Day 3. I think we are gonna be alright but again this is a thin line that I'm giving the Cowboys.
Awesome. Now if we can get a new qb, head coach, rb, owner before the season we should be good
so switch teams to the cheifs easy fix you not a cowboys fan
The C from Oregon is still available same with the RB from Texas longhorns
My question is can he start at LT Day one, I know the QB at Oklahoma was left handed so hopefully he can play LT
Love the pick.we'll have the Tyler Tackles..we can still get a good G or C in 2nd plus extra 3rd now we can get Brooks or True FSU and still get our LB too
If JPJ falls to us in round 2 I’ll be happy as hell, but I’ll be fine with Frazier or Bebe
or van pran
We don't have a second round pick.........
@@turnersears1427yes we do. We just don’t have a 4th round pick
@@coledaniel9562 That’ll be a great pick, but I think we can get him 3rd/4th.
@@akaglide3485 we can get Van Pran at 87. I say Cooper at 54, Wright or Benson at 73, and VP at 87.
I'll give it a B+ as a straight pick at 29, and an A because of the extra top 100 pick, but with his potential it could be an A+ when its all said and done. I'd be trying to get C Jackson Powers-Johnson sonehow in the 2nd round. If they do that i'd be blown away tbh
Solid B for me. Starter with solvable problems and huge upside, and a third rd pick as well. Good job Cowboys.
I liked Guyton but I wanted Barton, who would have been a perfect and immediate fit.
But at least they got Minnesota’s higher #3 pick instead of the Lions’ #3. That makes the deal a B+ for me instead of a B or B-.
B grade. I think it's a solid pick. Extra 3rd being earlier in 3rd also is a good bonus. We really needed more picks on day 2 to fix this roster. Now go bpa at 56 and I hope Benson or Brooks is there at 73.
Good trade value for 29 plus another 3rd rounder
Not sure why everyone he has a hard-on for Barton. He was very good but short arms, not as strong as Guyton, and more inexperienced at center than Guyton at tackle. There is a bust potential and center is more safe but no pick is guaranteed great and we’re going off prospects on draft picks. I feel the risk-reward is there for both players but Guyton plays a more premium position and is great at pass protection, which we need to be focused on with how much we pay QBs these days. That’s the reality of it. So to me it’s easily an A and people are overthinking the potential of getting Barton.
If Dallas were to say move up and snag Powers-Johnson, or have him fall in their lap, then I say they wrapped up o-line needs right there. I also think Powers-Johnson has a higher ceiling than Barton just as I do with Guyton. It’s just a matter of them reaching that potential. Do I think that will happen? Probably not. Too good to be true.
I've been hearing from two different sources saying that they actually think that this pick was an awesome pick and that he most likely would have not made it to the Cowboys if there had been more film of him playing in games. They released some more film of him playing, but not until like right before a day before this draft. The dude literally did not have a sack on him on 355 passing downs (in his collage career). That's pretty impressive, if you ask me. And these two guys are saying that he's a better run blocker than what ESPN and crew are saying. Here's what one of them was saying TWO weeks before this draft. This guy actually believes that Tyler is MUCH better than Gram Barton (However you spell his name) after watching Gram and Tyler play. ruclips.net/video/C0Ba_eLTJQY/видео.html
That ain’t a bad pick
I loved our draft! Sure it hurts to lose Barton but this team absolutely needed to trade down to get additional picks. I would have been happy with Newton here in the 1st but Guyton was my 2nd choice and I think we can play him either at LT or LG as a day 1 starter and just move Tyler Smith around. Hopefully, with these next couple of picks they can pick up Trey Benson or Blake Corum at RB and get Zach Fraizer or one of the LB's or DT's
All ima say is our track record is flawless with oline 1st rounders and we passed on powers
I don’t know can we trust him day one as a left tackle?
We don't
I don't know if we can trust him day 1 at RT
Nope. And Jerry just gave our right tackle $60 million.
Look at the film on him. The dude moves well with all that bulk and he's a bit of a brawler getting to the next level. He has been coached well and I think he's going to be a top 3 O-Line in his class.
Trust! Who cares he was best available and we need him.
I hope we don’t regret this, but we knew this was a possibility

It's A+ I have a lot of faith in the Cowboys picking OL in the first round
C+ and see what we take with the 3rd pick hopefully a nice rb😊
To big of a project, we need starters to step in and be dominant NOW!
Who do you want the Cowboys to draft next?
IDK now let them do whatever they want.
Jonathan Brooks
Texas RB
LB Edgerrin Cooper 🏉
Zack Frazier
Why are people acting like he's a project? Dude gave up zero sacks last year at Oklahoma
A great move day 1!!
Brilliant move..still got their guy
The pick was worth the 3rd pick we received!
B- Because we really needed this OT he has size and we can have him for the future QB. Facts
If we get Bebbe in the 3rd it will be a home run. You don’t need a great OL to win in the playoffs. Clearly Dallas has proven that. You need stars at qb and wr. Time to get to work on that.
Tom we got a starter and a “FREE” 3rd round pick how is this not a win what are we talking about here
I like it we get a left tackle and a third maybe tonight we can trade down again and get a 4 back
B. That’s who all the mock drafts had them getting so to get him and a 3rd isn’t bad. Time will tell.
I give the pick a B+. Could turn into an A if he play left tackle well this year. I wasn’t big on him coming out because of the raw talent, talent only gets you so far, the rest depends on the type of work he puts in. Let’s hope.
#DallasCowboys Now that we Drafted Tyler Guyton Height 6′ 7″, Weight 328
Now GO GET Mekhi Becton Free Agent Height 6′ 7″, Weight 364 lbs
We need 6'7 6'8 6'9 320+ lbs OL
Tyler Guyton RT/LT Tyler Smith Center Zack Martin Mekhi Becton RT/LT #DallasCowboys
The loss of Smith is much bigger now. Having him mentor this guy would have been huge
YES because we needed Offensive Line help and we got it
They drafted another Tyler.
Cowboys recipe for drafting OL
1. First name starts with T
Or
2. Last name starts with S
D- for me we have a player who is raw, and inexperienced 15 games!? To protect our QBs blind side!?!? A QB who is 30 and has been injury prone the last few years! I would have preferred JPJ a proven starter move T Smith to tackle and roll the dice with Bass as the LG
With the draft pick I’ll give the cowboys a A+ for round 1
but how is he at run protection
None of these grades count until he actually takes the field, go look at the grade on Mahomes and Brady
That trade back almost screwed us. But I like the pick.
3rd round pick is really good.
There was one first round grade left it was jain and they weren't going to take him... who? What did you say?? Don't mumble i'm old and can't hear, even the auto closed captioning thought you said "joh".
Better Trade than Pick.
Nice 👍 Pick.
Lotta work to be
done @ LT.
B+
Maybe use extra third round pick to move up in the second?
maybe but they are short a 4th so doubtful they like there picks they would have to find a forsure guy that will not be there. i would for the right guy you know will be a starter
B. Dude is a freak in size and athleticism, but needs some work. More made because Mitchell and every comer were on the board for a great pick in a rebuild year.
Tight end at 6 8?? Definitely athletic
A- Go Cowboys we got good value
I give it a B with a possibility to go to an A, depending on who they get with the 3rd round pick.
Because of getting that 3rd, I rank this an A-. That extra 3rd translate to a RB
B on the player. A on the pick.
What in the hell is the Dallas cowboy doing they need a damn running back and they're not picking a running back
I only like the pick because we got the extra 3rd rounder with it. So for me it’s a 2 for 1 as long as Dallas doesn’t screw that up and reach on simeone
Can we draft a GM?
