The new opening is sweek, but it just needs a bit of Ska. Just one line from a trumpet or trombone with one bar of upbeat guitar and one bass note. Good luck at worlds!
Love the new intro brother. You deserve the hype!!! Love watching you play and the soundboard of course. Keep up the great work and I’m rooting for you at worlds!!!
I like when you share the junk decks too. while your approach to pro level magic is extremely methodical its refreshing how organically you run your channel (not to downplay all the work that goes into it ofc). I just love the: play the game, give us opinions on the deck and move onto the next one
I think the best lists I've seen are viperless. I ran a bg viper list before duskmorn that worked well, but it was because you could snakeskin veil to tempo midrange decks. Now days you can't run veils because you need slots for hitting those red one and 2 drops.
played a similar list, tbh viper isnt really central to the strat imo. Forge is probably the biggest threat of this deck which is why im surprised the list only plays 3.
Because I got sick and tired of never getting to hit with my big boss monster I implemented that 3 mana red uncommon enchantment from outlaws that gives either +2/0 or menace and haste to one creature at the beginning of combat phase and what can I say? I managed to get two vipers in consecutive turns on the board and swing both turns, mind you I still lost the following turn because the amount of random tokens those damn overlords create and lingering enchantments is just absurd, but hey, I got at least to swing three times with vipers in a game (or in other words: even if viper gets to swing it does jack shit in the current meta)
I've played a lot of this style of deck the past couple of years (something about beating opponents by killing my own stuff always seems to appeal) and I have to agree with your assessment - the core is decent, and Disturbing Mirth is a great addition to the consistency, but the viper just works out badly every time. I've had a bit more success with Massacre Girl Known Killer at the top end (and switching in Disfigure and Candy Grapple for some of the other removal) - the wither really helps shrink opposing boards and push attacks through - not sure shes the solution, but she definitely seems better than the viper for my efforts. One thought (and please feel free to ignore - you're a far better player and know far better than I do whether or not it is important) - it might be worth being careful about when you mouse over your permanents during games, as it seems it could be giving them information. In this video you highlighted your Spiteful Hexmage and the opponent's Beza several times, and highlighted your hand - maybe they wouldn't have attacked anyway, but maybe it gave them a bit of information that you had a plan. Similarly, in another recent video, you had a few manifests out and kept mousing over the important one to read it - possibly highlighting to the opponent that it was the important one. It's just that every time you 'touch' a card, it is highlighted to the opponent - my eyes are drawn to movement, so every time an opponent highlights a card I notice, I may not know why it is important, but I now know that they are paying attention to that card. (If it's a worry about presenting the information to a video audience - one trick I've seen another content creator use is to waggle the mouse pointer just below a particular card he wants to indicate - still draws the audience to it, without telling the oppoent.) Anyway - I'm really enjoying the videos, and feel like I'm learning a lot in the short time I've been subscribed - I hope the cards fall your way at Worlds, and look forward to seeing what you bring to us in the future :)
I feel like Viper really wants Enduring Courage or something to make it better, getting 3 triggers because you got to attack right away might be enough of an impact that it's worth getting it removed right after. But I do think Viper is probably too win more to work most of the time
@@Vael221 Oo - Courage is a nice idea, getting the immediate extra triggers would definitely improve Viper's value. Good call :) (Especially cool given it could even be sacrificed to the casting cost and still have the enchantment version.). That always seems to be the problem with Viper - you wind up sacrificing your whole board to cast it, then it gets removed after only one trigger.
Viper can be really good if you can pressure their hand and force them to topdeck an answer, if they can just hold their doom blades it's gonna suck everytime... It's a REALLY fast clock if they're empty handed.
@@GoldenSkeeter Oh I wasn't talking about this deck specifically! This deck just wants to hail mary viper asap and see what happens, i'm just talking in general. I don't think playing viper like this is very good.
Great video as always but can you please make a video addressing the rcq and rc changes and getting rid of competitive pioneer. I think it needs to be talked about and addressed.
Viper is fun, but not a 4 of in this deck... I used 4 copies of Scavengers talent, and added a few recursion options, and swapped into a 2 Phyrexian Fleshgorger 2 Viper mix at the top end. Fleshgorger coming down on Turn 3 with lifelink really helped with the aggro decks, and comes back damn near unkillable. It's also really good sac fodder in a pinch in Prototype mode if you're aiming on bringing it back.
Just played against this last night, very cool idea. I wondered if splashing white for zoraline and pixie was worth. The -3-3 flash enchantment is a good addition for removal too
Jim! Long time fan here. Any way to send you a list to play on stream? It was already tested by a member of the goldfish crew a while ago but I'd love to see your spin on it. It's historic tho.
I think a golgari version with protection spells and instead if sacrificing actually card permanents. You sacrifice food tokens from cards like vine reap mentor and tough cookie. The only cards you lose are disturbing mirth and forge. Mirth is good but forge rn gets removed to easily for it to be as good as it was so your not losing much power by switch out of red and strengthing your game plan by switching to green being your support color.
This is exactly why I don't play viper in my sac decks anymore. It often costs you the game, and rarely wins it. I actually have had way more success with Pitiless Carnage as a mass sac enabler, but that's with the 2 3cmc sac payoff creatures from Duskmourn.
self mill for the first few turns could have set up a possible viper instead of the braids; I've been playing this deck for a bit and while it's always a grind to win, at least it's something different
Instead of duress on mainboard. 4 mana hostile investigator would be better? Discard 1 card from opponent and create a token (2^ sac it and draw a card. Gives 2 permanents and disrupts opponent slightly. Duress. In rakdos your top decking a lot I feel, and need solid top decks to keep steam after a big viper play. Like this deck is a fast, midrangey/aggro deck that needs some gas when it runs low, and
This list is too cute imo. Like it has the fun little tricks, but there's just no punch. No actual threat you're delivering to your opponent. Which is a shame because i like sacrifice decks but this just ain't it chief.
You did not give this deck a fair shake. Why are you so impatient to cast a snake that you’ll sacrifice your whole board? First time I’ve watched a video of yours and my impression is you’re not interested in actually playing well
hell yeah that new intro is hype
New opening is sick
The world's prep intro! ❤

Given the viper's centrality to this deck, it's concerning how often the right answer was to board it out, lol.

22 seconds in and I'm already loving this deck
Let's go Jim! Good luck at World's!
Rottenmouth Viper is kind of a sweet card o_O who knows if it's "good", but damn, a 2 mana 6/6 Annihilator-y effect sounds awesome.
Think of it like sheoldred. If they don’t kill it they lose to it pretty fast.

How do you pressure their removal with 1 drops ?

There is one in the sideboard which i moved to the main in bo1 in favor of one hopeless nightmare.

I just want a deck that plays Rottenmouth to also jam Enduring Courage for the haste value. Plus you can sac it to Viper or Mirth.
What does it mean to "shove"? I feel like it's being used in multiple contexts.
A poker term meaning go all in.

Why Restless Vents? The curve's so low it seems detrimental
Get all of the bad runs out now so there’s none left for Worlds! Optimism is a wonderful thing!

I saw a guy who played modern get an IDENTICAL hand with Incinerator
Standard seems super skill-testing lately. You don’t get bailed out by much. No “play bad win anyway” here

Viper is much better in decks that can consistently stretch the opponent’s resources
In what exactly? I feel orzhov tokens it has a place.
@@Zeridium wb blink it’s good
Viper is great but you don’t give up your whole board for free just to put it in… sacrifice some enchantments and on, but not your whole board…

That's his gimmick
