    It absolutely blew my mind when you summoned Katha, Creator of the Deck. I always thought the "Players are Planeswalkers" thing was just lore.

    • @aidenrobley504
      @aidenrobley504 Год назад +46

      Gameplay-wise, it was a change made after the planeswalker card type was added to the game. Lore-wise, the players have always been planeswalkers, but once planeswalker cards were added to the game, they decided that effects that damage players should also be able to damage planeswalkers. As a result, older cards will just say "Deal X damage to target creature or player" where newer cards will read "Deal X damage to any target".

    • @madsandersen2740
      @madsandersen2740 Год назад +41

      @@aidenrobley504 Actually, when planeswalkers were originally added to the game in Lorwyn, the rules stated that any non-combat damage dealt to a player could be directed to a planeswalker they control. The change to "any target" happened more than 10 years later in Dominaria, where they finally bit the bullet and retconned the old cards, so the game would be more intuitive.

      The mental shift from, "Ooh, I hope we hear something great from the phonecall" to, "Omg, she's in the freakin' studio!!!" was so awesome. Really sweet to see a proven competitor show up in content - as someone who doesn't follow the competitive circuit very closely. This was hype, excellent variety to see a guest that isn't just one of the big names and if someone told me Katha was going to the next pro tour, this video might get me watching to root for her.

    I love shaman tribal! The historic version of the deck got me to mythic on arena for the first time. I do feel the need to nit-pick Carls play in the second game, he should have gotten the burning tree emissary and the spyro with the coco, the mana and cards would allow him to play whatever he draws, possibly even another coco, or 2. Even the low rolls likely lead to a more immediate board state. Shamans is a deck that lives or dies on massive explosive turns, so you need to play to them.

  • @benjaminsouthworth5698
    @benjaminsouthworth5698 Год назад +1

    At like 20:00 I think taking the harbinger over emissary was a massive punt, as we saw it was do nothing that turn and with harmonic emissary would give you enough mana to cast anything in your deck so I think you just pray to spiro cycle into something good and play it with that mana.

    Don't sagas trigger in the draw step, and doesn't floating mana not persist between steps?
    So if that's the case, wouldn't he have been unable to play his artifact with the mana from urzas saga at 20:49, since he was in the main phase?

    • @GamerdevilPro
      @GamerdevilPro Год назад +3

      Sagas actually trigger *after* the draw step which is another way of saying "at the beginning of your first main phase".
      It's a common mixup that ppl think it triggers in the upkeep or drawstep that usually doesn't have a lot of consequences except for urza's saga and the 2nd chapter of the kiki saga.

    Food deck was nice. When the super hot girl came onto the screen to talk about her deck, she mentions that she would rather cut BTE than Elvish Visionary. I don't think that's correct. I think when you know that the opponent is trying to combo you go for the aggression, if you don't have any meaningful interaction. Taking a whole turn off to play a 1/1 that draws a card is a guaranteed way to lose :) I think I could see cutting Fable of the Mirror Breaker. Because it's just too slow but a turn later or just the Visionaries...
    Also, what a wild brew, the well known Shamans deck. It's been out there for QUITE some time now. Still fun to watch.

    really cool episode here :)
    I can't wait to see more modern and pioneer gameplay on this channel.
    Maybe you could re-play the matchup of the last Pro Tour's Final, since it was a really short match with a lot of mulligans.

      We've actually been looking into getting the actual players that were there to do that! But we can't promise anything because Reid Duke works for Ebay now, which is our biggest competitor 🙄

    the 4 color food deck is very fun, i never played it in modern, but i am biased since it is very similar to the dimir slice of my cube (dimir artifact tokens)

    I love the Shaman Deck. I play all these Shamans in my Sek Kuar Shaman EDH Deck. I will build this Modern Deck sometime.

    Ah, the Sideboard Player choice! You get to summon one player to pilot your deck in one game only! brilliant wizards of the coast! And very high tech. 🤔🤔🤔😁
    Loved these decks! I got most of the food deck except some cards. Might pop something like that together.
