I lived in Canada and used to walk to school in blizzards the homes here aren’t built for it and pipes are busting ceilings are falling in and the water is freezing while gusting out plus we’re stuck in the dark

Extreme cold??? We have had -20 to -50 for over a week now in northern Minnesota. I had -39 at work last night lol and that wasn't including the windchill. Our highs during the day are still well below zero.

Im a norwegian who stayed at Crete for 2 years, and can say i never freezed so much at Norway as Crete, even though temperature never got lower than 3 degrees in crete (celsius) and minus 35 in norway....Houses at Crete is not build for cold, its build for strong heat. Guess its the same in some parts of Texas
The power outages are pretty extensive right now here in Houston and it's only getting worse unfortunately. We've been without power for almost a full day. No heat in our home with temperatures dropping down to 12° over night. Some are back on the grid to enjoy intermittent rolling blackouts while over 65% are without electricity entirely.

One tip i can give, is to eat right before you go to bed bc your body produce 40 more heat when u have full stomack, compare to emptry. Use this tip myself when im use tent in "cold" nights

But last night I was snacking all night long with our 3 children. Me and two of my children have raynauds disease so it's actually intricual we keep our hands and feet as warm as we can. Thankfully we all rotate in front of the fireplace. Thankful we have that ability bc not everyone does. It's pretty terrible what's happening for a lot of folks who have no source of heat at all. I'm horrified at the lack of preparation by our energy companies and state govt. We had empty buildings in downtown Houston with lights on over night along with parking lot lights on while so many have had to wait and hope for their turn to maybe get electricity back on in their homes for a few hours. Some major accountability needs to happen!!
As usual they got everything wrong. Turned our electricity off for no reason. Your heater uses way less electricity than your air conditioning. Just letting you know that they have power over you.
Texas, dont drive when its undershield rain. Its dangerous. In norway where we are used to it, and have propper tires to deal with it, we have alot of crashes. Its upto 700 crashes in one day in oslo at the worce day. Be safe, stay at home and take a day off from work. U can easy be hurted. I have stayed one day from work because i found it too risky to go to work at one day, years ago. Had to travel 50 miles.

No, of course don't pour "boiling hot water" on your windshield. But pouring WARM water works very well. No, it won't crack your glass. I've been de-icing my car glass for decades with warm water and it's never cracked my glass. Removes all the ice in seconds and warms the windshield up a bit so that new sleet has a harder time sticking while you're driving.
