Technically Carol Burnett did appear on the Match Game when she, Vicky Lawrence, Tim Conway and Jim Nabors made a surprise appearance and, sitting on the step, played along answering one question.
Regarding the GSN trivia shown near the end of the episode, Carol Burnett actually did appear on Match game once, not as a panelist but as a visitor along with a few cast members of the Carol Burnett show.
Many CBS stars did appear. I believe they were paid scale, whicich means next to nothing. They did MG to plug their shows and many of the stars enjoyed playing the game and interacting with the other stars. There were a few stars like Betty White, Allen Ludden, Bobby Van etc that seemed to rotate between the games of the time.

That quiz about who never appeared on Match Game is kinda wrong. Carol Burnett did appear on the show with her current cast of her show. Granted it was a walk on cameo thing to promote her show but they did answer a question. So ....🤷
The questions in the game tended to be geared towards baby boomers. Marjorie was from the previous generation, and that may have been why she fumbled. Although, a middle-aged woman in the 70s should have been more likely to say "poodle" than "golf", and that's probably why Richard changed his answer. She did say that she thought of "poodle" first, and she probably changed her answer to "golf" in order to appear more "hip".
@@ts.elliot5870 What? Baby Boomers are the generation born roughly between 1945-1963. Yes, they were a "thing" back then, and yes, they were called Baby Boomers.

sorry. i just watched carol burnett drop by match game with the whole cast of her show as guests. they ran around quite a lot on the set. she looked like she was unusually thin.
Actually they pretty much don't sit, if my years of watching the Animal Cops shows told me anything. They spent pretty much all their hours waking and sleeping standing up because they have to, or their organs will be crushed by their body weight. They usually only lie down to scratch their back or if they're severely sick. If they sit, it's usually just a few moments if they're going to lie down or stand up.
ROFL! Another fine episode! :0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Charles! ;0) Camera in shot.. ;0) I just finished a picture, it is a gloassy 8 by 10.. ;0) I got 2 egg rolls and a won ton to go.. Because the other bins A thou Z were fill with who knows what... ;0) Alan Alda did original match game 3 times.
Richard bats a thousand for losing for the contestants! BUT... I still can't feel bad for them. He loses for them in the pervious game and they STILL go to him, so....
This program makes life more exciting.
Technically Carol Burnett did appear on the Match Game when she, Vicky Lawrence, Tim Conway and Jim Nabors made a surprise appearance and, sitting on the step, played along answering one question.
The question specified "guest panelist." Carol, Tim Conway, Vicky Lawrence and Jim Nabors were guests on that specific episode, but not panelists
I just love this show!
"made doo doo" LMAO ,,,, I laughed so hard on that one,,,,,,we used to say that as kids, must have been a popular phrase in the 70's
Allan Ludden shows humility being a panelist. With the other great game show hosts Gene Rayburn and Richard Dawson on the same stage.
This should definitely be a gold star episode. CNR was hilarious!

The big CBS stars very likely didn't guest panel on Match Game because they would have been too expensive.
I saw that one.
Also because they both share the same studio.

Vicky Lawrence was on the first week (I believe) and did very well.
Watching in 2024 and I can tell you if this game was played today, the answers would have to be censored 😂😂
Richard’s “does anyone care” response to Charles got an appropriately frosty reception from everyone.
Return of the Johnny Olson hiccup from Episode 178

hahahahahaha! awesome! ;)
How can you not like Fannie Flagg?
😍😍😍😍
No one has to like everyone.
She used to do stand up before this show.
Gene’s favorite tie again.
Ok. And
It works, everyone who wears suits has a favorite tie.
Panelists:
1. Allen Ludden
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Joyce Bullifant
5. Richard Dawson
6. Fannie Flagg
Gave a good laugh at Johnny’s hiccup & Allen’s “Bye, Marge.”
Oh yeah, CNR was on Lidsville! I forgot, great Saturday morning show!
It was weird.
21:51 Although her, Vicki Lawrence, and Jim Nabors made a surprise appearance
Hmm. I said V for Vavoom! Wouldn't have gotten a single match.
Love you too Fanny
Match Game made the '70s what they are today. 🙄
Brett is so fun to have on show
this head to head questions are getting more difficult, did the producers ran out of money 👈LOL
Some are easier than others.

Did anyone win more games (4) than Marjorie , without ever winning the Super Match?
Yes there are quite a few.
I used to be an adventurer like you until I took a Pygmy to the knee.
That'll slow you down every time.
20:18 Brett does her best Ed Norton.
chop shop. but you know popular concepts change so their answers reflect current events of days back then.
22:07 listen carefully.
I was sorry to see Marjorie go. Sweet lady. Too bad she couldn't connect.

I've never head the expression "chop and change". What does it mean?
Scorchio 😊

That's right. They visited the set and ended up participating in the game as I recall. I don't remember which year that was.
That last winner had nice legs!
Down boy.
Horses don't sit?

Oh ... I read it wrong ... I thought, “that can’t be right; it would be horrible blockage.” ...
They can sit.
Not usually. Horses can lay down, but sitting isn't natural.

I thought he filed his secretary under va va vavoom.
Marge was one of the best contestants on match game she very personable to the others, no
I said she was like the Den Mother of all the contestants!
With that hair you should talk thank you Allen Ludden 👍 the next time put a bit in her mouth and blinders on. Horses are beautiful and isn’t 🤮

Krista Brewer bats a thousand for obnoxious comments!
@@thejetset3357 Well she is not wrong on Richard in the head to head matches because he is not great at that portion of the game
@kistabrewer6736 it's the contestants job to match the celebrities so comments are incorrect.
I think sometimes he intentionally gives bad answer so they fail. It just seems he plays mind games. Or if cute young girl he tries harder.
So racist
Alrighty then.
Where?
Tonto - who wrote these questions?
Okie Doke!
Grow up.
Thank goodness she's gone, what a dope 😹
