The plaintiff is ridiculous. Kudos to the defendant for having clear pictures.
Absolutely ridiculous! 7 months of radio silence and then wakes up one morning and decides he's dissatisfied with the work?
I cracked up seeing the defendent suppress a smile when JJ told the plaintiff the pics were much better than his 🤣
2:02 JJ: "I'm looking at his pictures they are better than yours!" The defendant had pictures of the whole car in chronological order of work done. Brilliant!😂😂
Is that really brilliant though. Seems like most basic and obvious q thing to do
@@SoulDelSolMany people have not had the foresight to have the evidence to defend themselves, particularly as a defendant, hence why I complimented what he did. However, agree to disagree👍
Betting he's been burned before.
@@Transformers2Fan1 Good point!
@@QuietlySoulful359I agree
The plaintiff waited 7 months to reach out to defendant about being dissatisfied.. 🤦🏾♀️
He knew that he wasn't gonna make anything worthwhile out of that historic skeleton called a "car" so he in the end had an idea to make some easy money but he clearly doesn't know Judge Judy LOL.
@@SamSam-bf5gk And how long have you claimed to possess psychic abilities? Because they’re not working. Like Judge Judy, you do not understand a long-term restoration project on an old car. If you did, you wouldn’t make assumptions that you have no business making. I’m just trying to figure out who the bigger fool is you, or Judge Judy.
He probably found out later that the car was useless, so he felt he needed to recover the money already wasted on it.
Judge Judy’s ‘limit’ for handling cases seems to be six months - I don’t know if that’s a personal or legal limit.
I remember once watching a case where the plaintiff complained about years of harassment and Judy said she’s only considering the cases in the last six months
@@paulh1745is there some aspect of long term car restoration that justifies the plaintiff waiting over 6 months before even CONTACTING the defendant to let him know he was dissatisfied. If not, then there is nothing wrong with JJ’s verdict here.
Why would anyone pick up an item that was left behind that wasn't fixed as promised, then wait 7 months to inform the other party that there is a problem? That's ridiculous! If you notice something is wrong, go back to the person/ business immediately, and tell them there's a problem. No brainer!
Dat is not a nice guy tho
@soniadelaveaux4943 Regardless whether the defendant is a nice guy or not is irrelevant. If he didn't do the job correctly, go back and get them to fix it. If they are paid to do the job, make sure you are getting your money's worth. If they refuse to do it after you explained it, then file the lawsuit promptly. You don't ask someone else to fix it for you and sue the original mechanic 7 months later.
If he was so dissatisfied, why wait until the next year to contact the Defendant?
“I was too busy” 🙄
Always bring clearer evidence and you'll win your case.
Judge Judy.
NO idea how the plaintiff thought that was a case. Was anybody able to make out what the sidekick sitting down was desperately inserting into the case at the end? Some time was spent trying to manage....? Kind of funny.
I thought he was trying to explain that he and P were trying to fix the D’s work. But still - the 7 months is what killed his case.
So he paid the mechanic $6,500 for the work he did, then came back 7 months later to say he wasn’t pleased with the work and wanted a full refund?? I can’t believe this made it to court. Lol.
Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Doesn't mean they'll win (dismissed in 2 minutes)
No, no, he needed money for the motor. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He didn't want a full refund 😭 he just decided 7 months later it was only worth $1,500 😂 the shenanigans 🧐 you don't play with people who has given you their valuable time!
The whole story was shady. And the picture he showed her was very selective. Careful not to show the entire car was actually just a rusty shell. Then he collects the car with no complaints at all. 7 months later complains and over a year later sues him. Two years after he collected the car. Shady.
You said exactly what I was thinking.
I’m an Optician, people bring in 3 year old eyeglasses 👓 and try to get a refund because “they didn’t like them” or “couldn’t see out of them” 😂 And of course they are all worn down from wear 😅😖

A lot of people don't seem to know the difference between a 1-star review on Google and a lawsuit. As JJ says "you ate the steak"
Exactly! In this case, too much time elapsed before the plaintiff decided to file a lawsuit against the defendant.
I’m a service manager at an automotive restoration company. We see this frequently unfortunately. Or we’ll get a car in with no budget or they want top of the line, which is great. However you’ll hand them an invoice and then there’s an issue, they expect it for a lot less. Good body work is expensive and takes time. We have cars here that have been here for 8 years. There’s really a lot of variables with parts and availability, and a good restoration takes a lot of time. Great job to the defendant for taking good pictures, that’s so important.
Eight years, boy would I be ticked off! I remember having my car sit in a shop for a year and get a lot of excuses why the work hasn't started yet.
@@m42037 depending on what your bringing your car in for. If ur car is being restored, its going to take a long while, especially at a regular bodyshop, if u bring it to a restoration shop itll be done quicker but then u have to worry about parts. I guess it’s just me out I would have paid to get the car running before painting it😅😅
Lol the way she handed the plaintiff the pics I knew he lost his case😂😂

Whew😅 They should’ve just stuck with the cars and left the hood alone
@ 2:42 When you get THAT Judge Judy look you've lost your case.
What was rhe Plaintiff on?! 🙄
Boy Judge Judy does not like classic car restoration, lol. The fact that the car wasn't drivable doesn't make it worthless. I'm not disagreeing with her decision. Just saying.
The rest of the world looks at you motorheads like you're nutjobs😂
He didn’t fix the motor. He only did body work.
@Bola_O I realize that. I agree with her decision. But she asks "Is it running" in a way that implies if the answer is no, the car is a pile of scrap metal.
She's always been biased to classic cars, it really burns my bum! She doesn't know what she's talking about. Many of them are worth a lot of money!
a 1967 GTO that is a nice original or a fully restored car can be worth $30,000-$100,000 depending on a bunch of things. auto or 4 speed, original numbers match engine, PHS papers, options, history, etc etc.
That's called he realized how expensive it is to restore a car, and he wanted to save some money quickly
I work at a bodyshop for over 2 decades, i was actually really interested to know why the plantiff was so dissatisfied. Depending on when the defendant painted the job, there could be some problems that could arise days, weeks or months later.........
That's BS because as the car is being worked on, you would go and see the work as it's being done. At least get photos from the body guy so that you can see the job in progress. Nobody would be 'dissatisfied'. It's either done or it's not. It's not really a case of being unhappy. The job is either done or it's not. That's kind of how this business works. Unless it's a question about the paint being oversprayed or the clear coat being too thin or something. But those things can be corrected.
Gotta love Judge Judy
tbh ill never understand the logic behind guys like these and buying old AF caput cars and damn near trying to do the impossible of restoring these cars enough to even get equal the investment back. this car was barely a car lmao only a shell but im not a car person admittingly so...

She clearly stated that waiting 7 months was too long, and that’s why she dismissed the case. Her feelings toward the car being a chunk of metal versus being an awesome restomod with an engine that growled when you hit the key and purred around you as you sit in the driver’s seat had nothing to do with the dismissal.

When you purchase a product, there is a usually a time-frame in which you can seek to return/exchange it. For example; if you buy a sectional on Jan 1, and on Jan 10th you notice that one area of the couch has sunk in, and upon inspection discover there is a broken board on frame there, it is reasonable to ask for a return or exchange. It’s something that wasn’t immediately apparent, but appeared not long after you began using it. If you purchased the couch on Jan 1, and didn’t seek a return until August, it’s unlikely you would be able to get a refund because you used it without issue until then, and it’s more likely you damaged the couch.
There is the statute of limitations, and I guarantee you it is significantly longer than the amount of time the plaintiff waited to file his case.
@@paulh1745
Not on a used item, though. New replacement parts generally have a 90 day warranty, some are down to 30 days. Most repair shops (vehicle, home appliances, etc) will guarantee their work against defects for 30 days. The P waiting 7 months is way past too long.
@@paulh1745 that refers to a time frame in which you may initiate legal action, and case was indeed brought before Judge Judy. However, she found that an unreasonable amount of time passed between picking up his vehicle, and contacting the defendant about his dissatisfaction. If I order a burger and fries, and wait a week to contact the restaurant to ask for a refund because they gave me the wrong burger-not going to happen. It’s a matter of common sense.
It is a subtle difference maybe, but the issue isn't the statute of limitations, but the fact that they didn't complain almost immediately if something was wrong. It makes their story sound like total BS. A civil suit is preponderance of evidence even it it is only 51% and I think this made the balance for the defendant's case.
hes trying to get free work old mate has done his work he deserves hes pay
Classy chassis tragedy
Anyone who thinks the amounts of time past, condition of the car, or amounts of money are ridiculous or unreasonable, has never dealt with people who restore cars 😂
should have told the judge why it took so long for him to reach out. Seems that was the deciding factor in this case.
It wasn't about the amount of time it took to restore. It was about the amount of time the plaintiff waited to say he was dissatisfied 🙄
uhh it wasn't about how long it took to restore the car, it was about how long it took the Plaintiff to voice his dissatisfaction (7 months).
Yeah right..I got my hair done 7 months ago now I want my money back...laughable
A 1967 Pontiac GTO is not simply an "old car" JJ. This is a highly collectible car. Collectible cars are not a typical market. There was recently a burned out 1962 Ferrari frame that sold for $1.2MM. The buyer paid that much just so they could pull off the VIN plate, put it on another car and race in an exclusive race in Italy. JJ doesn't understand how the collectible market works, at all. This is a case where JJ was beyond her pay grade.
Disrespect the people smarter than you? WOW! Shame on you, made your parent and grandparents proud with the bashing of a Judge.
@@trekgirl65 JJ is a great jurist. However, she is not all knowing. As she has admitted herself, she is sometimes wrong. This is one of those cases.
I operate in the world of high- end automotive collectibles. This is my expertise. The plaintiff is correct in his expectations from the edited version of the video presented. Unfortunately, because JJ doesn't understand this market, she made some rather ill informed opinions. Calling this an "old" car, while technically correct, the age has little meaning to it's market value. A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is an old car, but worth $75 million in exceptional state and as a burned out hulk of melted metal, worth $1.2 million if the Vin plate is visible.
A 1967 Pontiac GTO is, as is the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, an historically important automobile. Age in this case is only relevant in that it actually increases the value of the car. JJ just got this one wrong, period and full stop.
Yes, but that’s not what killed the case. It was the 7 months that he waited to complain - she stated that when she told him he had no case.
He simply waited 7 months AFTER he towed it out of the shop and stored it somewhere else to complain. THAT was his problem. JJ clearly stated it.
@@ImOnAJourney If you've owned a collectible car, you are experienced with waiting, either for parts to be found, parts to be produced (3d CNC machines have added new life to older cars) etc. 7 months is not at all unreasonable of a wait with a collectible. One reason to wait is that this is a pretty small community. As a result, most people know the restorers and the restorees involved in the community. If you start to accuse someone in the community of fraud or malfeasance, especially in this age of social media, you better be on firm ground because you may find no one is going to work with you to restore your car in the future. It's not quite as cut and dry as a modern car community. There are probably less than 1000 1967 Pontiac GTO's in the US today. Every rebuild gets a LOT of attention. Very few people are qualified to restore one. You don't go off on someone in the restoration community until you've exhausted all private negotiation. JJ and you just don't understand how this community works. What the plaintiff did was entirely reasonable and even prudent.
I wish I had an extra $8900 ($2400 purchase plus $6500 bodywork) laying around that I could blow on a piece of junk sitting in someone's garage for 3 years.

I see my girl old fish lips hiding behind defendant 😊
(1:45) To the plaintiff: A car doesn't have to look like it was burnt to a crisp before it can be restored.

Too bad this gap in making the complaint doesn't apply to "sexual harassment/assault" accusations ..... especially the ones that are made decades later and of which all details can't be remembered...... yet result in massive settlements anyway.

This seems like a very hasty decision to me. She barely heard any explanation. I am sure the statute of limitations wasn't less than 6 months for negligence if he the guy did something wrong.
Not a statute. It's what is reasonable. You dont look over work, pay for it, and then decide you're dissatisfied 7 months later. There is no way at that point to link problems to defendant. Would you buy a steak at a restaurant, say that it's great, pay for it and then go back 7 months later and say you didnt like it and want refund. That's rediculous and yes it is the same thing.
@@SoulDelSol Are you an attorney or handled such things in real life? When you purchase a service or a product, there is a thing called negligence, and there certainly is a statute of limitations. This is why you regularly see lawsuits brought years later after there has been an injury from a product. The lawsuit wasn’t filed the next day. it is certainly his legal right to bring up a complaint later. Sorry, but you are wrong. As is often the case with JJ, she is in such a hurry to make a decision she just pushes through. I am almost certain you are the type that is convinced that you are absolutely right, and you will want to have the last word, so go ahead and say it.
Statute of limitation is how long you can wait to sue someone, NOT how long you can wait to tell someone that you’re unsatisfied with their service.
