Most people struggle to understand pasive strategies and rush a lot, for example i use mr mime a lot and you have to be more reactive rather than just attack and get out a lot of teamate goal since you can trap people and nearby pokemon with walls and confusion knockback towards our zone for extra advantage the overall idea is to maintain upper or lower zone intact to grab rotoms easier
My go-to with Venusaur is sludge bomb/petal dance, I like the slow from sludge bomb paired with the speed boost petal dance gives to be able to position myself where I need to in relation to enemies, and both move having a wide AOE means I can hit many enemies at once and with something like shell bell to sustain health (or petal dance to run back and grab berries) I can pretty reliably handle a 2v1 (and if I'm lucky 3v1) if my teammates leave me all alone in a lane (which seems to be happening far more often than I'd like)

Hey Jake, I got curious and looked back through my video history. This is the very first Content Cowboy video I ever watched! Last July, I heard about a Pokemon MOBA. I downloaded it, launched it and chose my favorite starter pokemon (Venusaur) to take into Aoes Island. I decided I had no idea what I was doing, and likely suck at this game. Rather than letting this get me down; I booted up the old RUclips and looked up a guide. You made me suck less, you were family friendly, and obviously entertaining. Looking up this guide was one of the best decisions I've ever made! Thanks for grinding out over a year's worth of excellent content. Yeehaw my dude, Yeehaw.
Finally a youtuber did a Venu vid! Btw, for solar sludge you can increase your burst with sludge > third hit > solar beam. Vine whip will usually drag them back into the sludge. It is also possible to reposition more than one opponent into your combo this way. This also makes clearing Vespequen camps just as fast as petal dance build. In general I think Vine whip has a lot of untapped potential with coordinated teams. Vine whip > cram surf + hurricane combo, vine whip > Talonflame ult, etc. Edit: Not a fan of either cheesy snacks. Crunchy Cheetos tho.
Gosh, I am always MVP with this cute beast, I use Petal Dance and Guga drain and I use Shell bell, Wise Glass and choice specs as held items. Its dang good and Idk why thry hate him so much, Venusaur can even defeat their Greninjas lol, anyways, you got a new sub!!
While I’m loving these videos I’m scared you’re gonna make a lot of people better players. So I’m gonna have to watch out for people using your builds. Lol. Charizard next for a build guide? 😉
You should consider Shell Bell, Focus Band, and either Assault Vest/Rocky Helm/Wise Glasses on the melee Venusaur. Lower CD for skills + each tick of the DoT's will proc shell bell. Focus band for extra defensive stats but the spatk with wise glasses/shell bell will give you high SpAtk for the spell vampirism effect of shell bell.
I’ve been using giga drain with solar beam, u can heal massive amounts of u run shell bell and a potion, and a cool tip is that if u giga drain the vespiquen + combee you’ll heal basically half of your health bar
That's what I have been using. Giga Drain gives you a lot of health back in big team fights, keeping you alive without dropping your damage for tank items. Its the move combination I've had the most success with. It is interesting that Venusaur seems to have the most options, with all four choices being pretty viable a changing up the playstyle. Other mons seem to have a "best" build that beats the others.
@@PissedGrunty definitely, it really makes venusaur feel unique and it makes him so fun to play despite a lot of ppl saying that he isn’t too good of a character
A tanky venusaur build with petal dance and giga drain is awesome! I love the vest, shell bell and Muscle Band (auto attacking is such a large part of the game, just good on basically everyone). I have toyed with using the potion as venusaurs active to increase the tankiness even more. I have those items on lv 10. No Focus Band as yet. Let's just say I like being tanky and most of my items are focused on that. Also played around with Left Overs but need to test it a little more.
I play him so different. As an ADC. Scope lense, muscle band, buddy barrier. Petal dance to run away or chase and sludge for aeo slow. Just basic attack from far the whole time and skills for either chasing or getting away
giga drain solar beam feels really good to me. Go Glasses, Shell bell and Muscle band on him (ik it gives physical attack but the % hp and the attack speed is really nice on him cause of the massive ranged aoe its) you're healing so much from drain/shell and you kill with beam it feels great. been using it to carry me through ranked and on average get mvp and it's funny cause my friends are like "when I play ven I feel like he sucks so much, how the hell do you do so much damage with him?"I feel like a lot of people are just afraid to play him cause he's considered "bad" so they don't even give him a try. Much Sadge
I just played a game as pedal dance sludge bomb jungle venusaur.. and I popped off! The move speed buff and the slow together gave me so much control and mobility.. plus the insane damage per second from both abilities at the same time plus autos? That’s actually a lot of damage all at once
I hope one of the changes that they make to him is to make sludge bomb+ have the circle last longer instead of being wider, and to make the effects of it last longer, because as it stands enemies only take an extra tick or two of poison damage after leaving the circle which gives slim opportunities to get those damage boosted snipes. It would also help make him more of a supportive mon since your whole team benefits from the special defense drop that his move provides.
You had me dying at body positive venasaur! 🤣💀 I like playing tanks in games, I use the pedal dance x gigadrain but I'm tempted to test that sludge bomb!
Venusaur is very good for me i like it, my fav combo is petal dance and drain because petal dance is area damage so if enemy try to dive me i can protect my self with petal dance and beacuse i use petal dance so i danger when i try to dive enemy if i didnt have heal so that why i use mega drain
Hmm... i'm inspired by a possible Mad Unite Science Experiment idea... Giga Drain + Petal Dance + Smoke Bomb = 'Zerkersaur'...? :D Edit: I like the looks of the 'Muscle Band + Focus Band + Rocky Helm' strat as a compliment to this... especially cause I was already pondering making Muscle Band the first Item I seek to soup up. Edit 2: 9:55ish... LOL wow that does look fun... might be better synergy between that & the 'every 3rd attack pull foe in' then there is with Solar Beam that really wishes ya'd quit pulling the prey closer where your sniper bum could get hurt more. :P (Wonder if Pro Players would do a better job of getting their bum outta the Sludge though...) Edit 3: It's a shame Venusaur can't pack that Ult in the Main Games... if we could, i'd pack that Move then Nickname my Venusaur "4-Legged Mortar". :P
Venusaur isn't bad at all, The petal dance & Giga drain combo with shell item really gives good heal add the focus band to sustain, rock helmet to utilize the tankiness in clash or do choice spec, its easy to proc due to the petal dance combo
Good guide but I personal would change the muscle band to an sp. attack item for the tanky build and to an tank item for the offensiv build. Because the yt SuperTeeds tested in practice mode how the sp. attack and attack items scale with the different pokemon and for sp. attacker, like Venusaur, the empowered basic attack scales with sp. attack too.
Venusaur has been my favorite character to play as (pre-buff, probably will be even more fun with the buff), reminds me of Murdock from Paragon when that was a game and man i loved sniping enemies with his long range laser. The way i play with him is selecting razor leaf first (the damage output lets him ko aipom a little quicker than seed bomb i find) trying to get to that giga drain (total damage was higher than the total damage of sludge bomb in testing + he gains health back upon impact) and more importantly, Ivysaur, as quickly as possible. Once he's reached Ivysaur, his damage output is really good, even more so when unlocking that solar beam. Around the time just before reaching Venusaur tho, he tends to be a bit underpowered so i tend to farm if i find im getting low really often until i do evolve.
This is more of a solo queue build and pure glass cannon but using that early game damage advantage to ko and level up using wild pokemon quickly, along with taking advantage of the damage output increase of evolving to ko enemy players to get even further ahead tends to snowball into venusaur being a powerhouse mid to late game. The main problem however is the risks of getting outleveled and failing to hit the solarbeam
Items i run are shell bell as a must have for health sustainability, wise glasses to power up that impressive solarbeam further, and the third im still kinda experimenting with but i definitely see focus band or energy amplifier as options. (Side note, i have no idea how many pokemon this is true for but when testing his boosted attack scaled off of sp.atk, not attack and with the low damage of his basic attacks, attack stat is definitely not the way to go)
OH RIGHT Two more things to note, Giga drain+ states it increases the amount of health you gain from the attack and while that is technically true, either the amount it increases is negligible or it doesnt do it in the intended way. I might have to test it out more but from the looks of it giga drain just increases the amount of health you gain from the sp.atk gain you get from leveling up, not from upgrading it to it's + variant. That's the second thing to note, the amount of health you gain scales with your sp.atk stat and maybe something to do with your health stat as well but it is not reliant on how much damage you do to the opponent with the attack. You could be dealing more damage to an aipom with the attack but you would gain the same amount of health as if you were to use it on a pokemon with a high sp.def stat and dealing less damage.
Venasaur is busted but you need to calculate giga drain better like it gives you tankyness and healing right! thats why you need to know if you can take the hits of your opponent because with petal dance , giga drain you calculate if your opponent or you falls first
Petal dance and giga drain is the way to go I love running that combo on my venusaur and he is my main. My items are wise glasses, buddy barrier and choice specs
Bruh. I had no idea there was such venusaur hate! I’ve been playing him pretty much exclusively since the game came out and I never have to fight anyone for him so I should have known lol I use petal dance and giga drain with shell bell and I’m still kinda working on the other two but I love playing as him so much! Sniping big enemies is my fave!
This was great! I'm curious where people are saying he's the lowest tier pokemon though, I'm not very online these days and I'm not sure where to go to get good discussions and analyses about this game since it's so new
I do a tanky build.. With shell bell and float stone and the glasses that boast your so atk with ever goal. In the beginning I make small goals to make it stack
He is one of the best defender in the game i know his role is attacker but with sludge petal dance u can really hold bases and sometimes its enough. Really good in last 2 min situation as well i dont know why people think venusaur is bad.
I've only played venusaur when my team has a gengar for instance, the synergy with venusaur poisoning and a gengar ganking with a hex outta no where... chef's kiss
I currently run a shell bell, rocky helmet, wise glasses build with giga and petal would love to hear what you think of it after trying it I’ve lost a few games but I am usually a makeshift tank
I’m wondering if for all rounders it might be better to build them tanky over damage heavy since base damage for abilities and boosted autos are so good already. Thoughts?
@@Terreos tbh, i think the best one out of the all rounders to go tank would def be luc and garchomp. My current chomp build is based around objective clearing and the single early gank so it’s Helmet, AV, and Muscle Band. So far, not the best win rate, but that’s usually there being s major difference in skills when it comes to solo queue and it’s hard to do it perfect with Chomp
I've stolen zapdos with petal dance. I just set out the circle next to the wall. It was so fun.. I really think Venasaur is better than people think. I like him better than Machamp
Imo venosaur is one of the best if your good with him he can do rly good top lane with the right bulky build and pair him with a snorlax and he can dominate and I think talon flame is the worst Pokémon in the game he’s kinda useless imo and only good for chasing down low health targets or helping clean up a team fight other than that his presence in the jungle is bad cause zeroarah or lucario or gengar or absol can alpha him out of the jungle cause he’s insanely squishy and for most of the match is just running away and chasing down low health targets
I like just running in and killing everyone perhaps venusaur isn't the pokemon for that but it's just how I play. I also use mussel band crit lense and sp specs is that alright? Also I love venusaur:)
PETAL DANCE OR GTFO, lol for real i love pairing petal dance and giga drain if i'm not the only damage dealer or sludge bomb if i need more damage or have a gengar
@@zerdodylan I hear you but the game has reworked Pokémon since then. I remember venasaur solar beam doing 50% your HP or so now it’s nerfed along with other Pokémon.
People are too reliant on tier lists to tell them what is good that they will not try out the ones put on the "bottom." I run Venusaur with Giga Drain and Petal Dance for beefiness.
@@aiddan5077 I like X Attack + Solar Beam. Solar Beam already does so much damage, and from a video I saw, X Attack is a percentage increase to your Pokemon's damage, so I think it's really strong with Solar Beam. I can generally get a Solar Beam, Giga Drain, & sometimes a boosted basic attack in that 5 second window that X Attack gives you.
I agree, someone else who realises... Venusaur is not bad for players, players are just bad with Venusaur! Great damage and with some support Venusaur is a great wrecking ball of a force! Top lane! I even just released my video on Venusaur, some similarities, but love if you checked it out and gave me some feedback! Working towards providing top content like yourself 😁
@@THGMR-ox7sd I do think he's broken. If you pair him with the already broken Cinderace it would be even more devastating as well. Hangar does have his weaknesses though. If you can full-heal his sludge bomb, he can't spam his hex. Also, sometimes you can mess up the auto targeting by running into tall grass.
I've not spoken to a single person who thinks he's bad. I main Venusaur so I'm happy to see he's not bad, but I'm also surprised anyones been saying he's bad.
I feel like half of these are the Petal Dance users that say this (recently just tried a game with Petal Dance, and I don't see the benefits of using it over Solar beam aside from a speed boost that rarely feels useful).
Venusaur is not bad he is just not good like other Pokemon. You can still win with him. He does lots of aoe dmg. He is probably not going to win you as many games as garchomp or zeraura though IMO. Although the stealing zapdos is a really good play

I currently run a shell bell, rocky helmet, wise glasses build with giga and petal would love to hear what you think of it after trying it I’ve lost a few games but I am usually a makeshift tank
I main eldegoss, but when i want to play attacker role i always pick venusaur. I consider it as sniper, the range of solar beam is insane
Goldfish. I've been maining Venusaur since release. I usually stick with the classic sludge bomb and solar beam
I just stole your zapdos 🤣 i love this man!!!
Missed opportunity at the end to say dead man walking a green mile when talking about pedal dance
I’m wondering if for all rounders it might be better to build them tanky over damage heavy since base damage for abilities and boosted autos are so good already. Thoughts?
I was honestly thinking of trying that myself. Plus if you know you can take an extra hit or two it might be able to save you if you run eject button.
Venasaur has it rough, in the original pokemon games he's overshadowed by Charizard and Blastoise... I hope things gets better buddy!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
He is not little, he's freaking huge! And yes, he's awesome. I love him!
Thicc 🤭
Yaaas I play shell bell, glasses, yellow headband with giga drain and solar beam mostly
Currently learning how to use all the characters (at least the ones I have) and he has been the most difficult to learn (I only have 5-6 pokemon)
i played this video in 2x speed... lol that's how slow narrator is
Petal storm works with attack or sp atk? I use Shell Bell + rocky helmet + Band on him, works pretty nice
venasaur is all special attack i think
just started playing and the pedal dance and gigadrain is nasty but lucario is so broken its crazy
I like just running in and killing everyone perhaps venusaur isn't the pokemon for that but it's just how I play. I also use mussel band crit lense and sp specs is that alright?
Also I love venusaur:)
I've realised that mussel band does nothing for me lol
PETAL DANCE OR GTFO, lol for real i love pairing petal dance and giga drain if i'm not the only damage dealer or sludge bomb if i need more damage or have a gengar
What items do you reccomend for Petal Dance/Giga Drain build?
Shell Bell, Wise, Rocky Helm. You can put any thing in place of Rocky Helm. I go Specs if I (get to) jungle
all the pokemon are good imo, you just need to find the perfect one for you
Never understood why people say he’s terrible like the game is still way too early to be talking about METAs
I really don't get it, Charizard always seems way worse to me. Or at least, I feel the most confident attacking a Charizard
@@esharp48 Charizard can definitely be good, but I feel as though a lot people play him as an attacker. He's labeled as an all-rounder for a reason.
i mean it’s been out for a bit in japan and canada
Ah but remember, a META doesn’t always mean what’s best, rather than what’s popular most of the time
@@zerdodylan I hear you but the game has reworked Pokémon since then. I remember venasaur solar beam doing 50% your HP or so now it’s nerfed along with other Pokémon.
I'm pretty sure lucario's unite move has more range than venusaur his solar beam no? Other than that, nice video!
People are too reliant on tier lists to tell them what is good that they will not try out the ones put on the "bottom." I run Venusaur with Giga Drain and Petal Dance for beefiness.
The Giga Drain + Solar Beam build is my favorite.
I know so good then I run potion as well as shell bell, focus band, and wise glasses
@@aiddan5077 I actually play the same held items as you, but for the battle item I use X Attack instead of Potion. : ^]
@@michaelc7418 potion is better for venusure because he is a slow attacker so x attack would only do so much
@@aiddan5077 I like X Attack + Solar Beam.
@@michaelc7418 true
petal dance, giga drain, ult and X attack all at once. Just unload on everyone.
much rather use solar beam, if not for the huge burst but as a backup for stealing Zapdos
So i'm not the only one that like giga drain petal dance combo :D
I agree, someone else who realises... Venusaur is not bad for players, players are just bad with Venusaur!
Great damage and with some support Venusaur is a great wrecking ball of a force! Top lane!
I even just released my video on Venusaur, some similarities, but love if you checked it out and gave me some feedback!
Working towards providing top content like yourself 😁
Before I watched tgis I was a giga and solar build but I think I am going to try slu and solar.
Can you imagine a Sludge Bomb + Solar Beam/Petal Dance Venusaur paired with Sludge Bomb + Hex Gengar? Infinite Hex Up-Time.
Sludge bomb needs to lower more movement or disable movement abilities
I've not spoken to a single person who thinks he's bad. I main Venusaur so I'm happy to see he's not bad, but I'm also surprised anyones been saying he's bad.
people saying hes the lowest tier but im rocking a 75+% win rate. his burst potential is crazy
I feel like half of these are the Petal Dance users that say this (recently just tried a game with Petal Dance, and I don't see the benefits of using it over Solar beam aside from a speed boost that rarely feels useful).
Goldfish
PD, GD Rocky helm, shell, rotate last item
he is my favorite boi & severely underrated. thank you for this!!
My favorite build is personally Petal dance and Giga drain
Venusaur is not bad he is just not good like other Pokemon. You can still win with him. He does lots of aoe dmg. He is probably not going to win you as many games as garchomp or zeraura though IMO. Although the stealing zapdos is a really good play
Do Machamp next!
4:21 Anyonr knows what's that thing on the right? How do I activate it?
dude x attack plus the 3rd basic move let me be able to one-shot a charmander. i was only an ivysaur at the time as well.
I uh may have used venasaur frontline moveset too much
Dude, I thought he was super easy and insanely powerful!
Cheezits mate!!!!
My main baby let's go 🤙
Sludge Bomb sound great with Gengar
I took my time and learned it and his solar beam is over powered
