    I have both the 1058 Legend and the P10R for my 65 PRRI. I really love both. Very hard to compare because they are so different but as I find it most charming to play with zero pedals, the alnico may inspire me a bit more than the ceramic,

    Jensen P10R = more Fender Chime

    I have both of these speakers. They are both fantastic. I think the P10R does best with Fender-style applications. But you really can't go wrong with either one.

    Interesting …. I remember years back when those Italian Jensens reissues were getting shit on pretty bad on gear forums. I was Confused because I had been using them for a while and to my ears they sounded extremely close to the vintage ones when broken in.
    Later learned just about everything Weber on his website said about Sica Jensen re-issues wasn’t based in facts. (Imo, thats what was driving the negative comments on the gear forums)
    On the Comparison …
    The P10R is very vintage in tone. If you are into musical anachronism (into old school tonality… lo-fi etc … and who isn’t right? ) its a great speaker to use! When playing clean it has a nice complexity … depth in overall tone.
    The Legend … very similar in tonality… but not as much complexity, the overall tonality doesn’t have the depth of the p10R.
    Yet … What the 1058 lacks in complexity when playing clean (compared to the P10R) it more than makes up when pushed by overdrive.
    Smother, less raspy …
    Imo the legend sound better that the P10R when playing using overdrive. Not by much through… probably the same amount the P10R sounds better clean ..
    Can’t go wrong with either … both awesome speakers!!!

    1058's are great. My favorite when I tested a bunch of 10" speakers some time ago. In comparison I liked it better than the WGS G10C at the time. Then later I bought a princeton 68 custom that had a G10C that sounded just fantastic. Now I'd really like to hear the Jensen P10R-F which is supposed to be a liittle bit warmer or more like a well broken in and aged P10R.

    I love your technique of placing the mic further away, really seems to capture a nice overall tone of the guitar and amp. Also love the fingerpicking style.

    They both sound great! The fat lengend is a great speaker, i use a 15inch in my cab. The Jenson is the real deal if you want the true vintage tone. Great playing.

    The Jensen is a great speaker and perhaps more authentic. But I think more people would appreciate the more bottom end the legend can provide for the music these days. Those old designed Jensen speakers do sound glassy and probably too ice picky after a while for most. Great for really low volume playing. Probably more suited for amps with lots of bass tuned into the circuitry.

  • @voxpathfinder15r
    @voxpathfinder15r 3 года назад +3

    I finally figured out the difference in tone. The 1058 sounds like it would when actually in the room with the speakers. The P10R sounds like you recorded someone playing in the room from a distance of 8-10 feet away with one of those portable cassette deck players/recorders we used as kids in the 70s & 80s with the onboard microphone that shelved all the lows.

    • @uhMaxx
      @uhMaxx 2 года назад

      it sounds more far away because its an alnico speaker, it has more depth to it, a 3D sound, ceramic speakers lack that room, they sound more upfront

      The appropriate comparison with a Jensen P10R is an Eminence 1028, because it's Alnico, not the ceramic 1058!

    I have an old Marshall Lead 12 combo. It has the original Celestion G10 8 ohm in it. It doesn't have much bottom end. The Jensen sounded a bit more 'thumpy' than the Eminence. I'm trying to decide if I should swap out the original speaker to get a smoother tone without so much treble. As Graham Chapman would say, "It's a bit tinny". I came for the Eminence, now I'm wondering if I should get the Jensen. I actually bought an 8 inch Jensen for a small office cabinet for an Orange Micro Terror that I really like. Maybe I answered my own question. Does anybody have any recommendations?

    I prefer the Jensen. I tend to like the Jensens better than similar model Webers too. Maybe I'm in the minority but I love all the character Jensens have. They aren't perfect but have the most tweed like character I like in old tweed Fenders. I do understand people trying to get a more controlled speaker for overdriven higher volume tones but you lose some of the character going that route. I kinda like the not so perfect out of control thing myself. Neil Young kind of thing. More open sound. I've enjoyed Jensens more than Webers. But they are both better than Eminence to my ears as the Emi's sound dark or like a blanket over the amp. I like the most open sounds. Still have to hear more WGS as I'm still unsure on those.

      One thing I have learned about the 1058’s over the last 6 months is that with the right boost/overdrive pedals in front and they can push way more treble than you would ever want. Something about them with lots of stock circuits makes them darker sounding than their Jensen counterparts. But if you’re like 95% guitarists, you can get all the treble you want.

      @@Pere1966... yes, if you plug straight into the amp. But I have tested a couple of FET based pedals, and those 1058s can really sing at the upper register. I think it’s because it’s a 75 watt rated speaker that people think it lacks sparkle. It’s more of a case of your favorite guitar pickups sounding with the volume knob rolled back to 3! Think about it, all the classic Jensens are 25 watts at extreme best. 1058s are 3X more the power rating. They need to be pushed harder!
