Wow the difference is easy to tell when playing Full Speed. The R1700BT is missing the entire mid range. And T40 II has much better and clear mid range. Don't let the booming sound of R1700BT fool you.
And the Edifier 1700 has not only booming bass, but harsh treble as well. One of the most V-shaped amplified speakers out there. Very tiring on the long run. The T40, however, has a very neutral, balanced sound, which is still involving and exciting.
Hi there! As I stated in my previous comparison, Creative T40 II is not very good choice in its price range as it is very close to price of Edifier R1700BT and here is a video that should prove this statement true. Before jump to sound quality, let me mention that Edifier has much surdier MDF cabinets compared to resnant, platic cabinet of T40's cabinets and has two important features that Creative lacks - remote control and Bluetooth connectivity. Right off the bat Edifier pulls ahead. Soundwise it is the same story. Edifier, thanks to much sturdier construction, has very little boxy sound colorations that are clearly present in T40 II, upper bass and lower midrange is where they are the worst for Creative. Bass of R1700BT is much cleaner and tighter, plus it reaches deeper, while T40 II has a bass that is boomy and hollow in comparison. Voices on R1700BT sound more realistic and natural with a bit of emphasis on upper ranges which makes them forward and bright. Creative on the other hand shows vocal more recessed and boxy, with lots of lower midrange colourations, escpecially on male vocals. Quality of treble is where T40 II is more or less on par with Edifier, but Edifier has more pronounced top end that may be a bit tiring on longer listenting. Overall, Edifier R1700BT is much better value for money compared to, quite old Creative T40 II so it gets my recommendation. What do You think? What would be Your choice between those two? Let me know below! Cheers!
Digital Stereophony hey I have commented on your previous videos especially when you have Edifier S2000 Pro included in it which helped me decide to get one and loving it very much! Thanks once again and I hope you can have more videos that compares Edifier S2000 Pro with others. Cheers to more subs and vids!
@Digital Stereophony Cześć! Aktualnie poszukuje jakiś w miarę przyjemnych głośników w stosunkowo niskiej cenie (max do tysiaka ew. mógłbym trochę dozbierać) chciałbym ich używać z Presonusem 26 do skromnych domowych nagrań (bardziej hobby niż profeska) no i oczywiście do słuchania muzyki przy robocie :D Poleciłbyś coś godnego?
Size wise the Creatives win. But everything else pretty much goes to the Edifier. The Creative are older tho as you mentioned. I still have my pair and I quite like them for what they are. I bought them back in 2011
I'm no audiophile but this is my perception: Edifier sounds much more clear and realistic, especially with vocals. Has much better overall quality. Has better bass response. Creative has a certain "fullness" or "colored" quality about them which make them seen more dynamic, which is very pleasing to me. They can be muddled at times though. Overall Edifier is the better value and sound quality, but there's some quality about the Creative that just tickles my ears that I can't just shrug off. I'm looking to upgrade from my Logitech Z200 which I've had for a few years now, (Hence why I"m here) and listening with my Sennheiser 598 headphones. My choice will either be Creative T30/T40 or Edifier R1700BT.
It sounds more clear because he had the trable down lower on the creative. There is a treble nob and just a notch up and it would sound just as clear with absolute ease. Edifier is not best for me, as I like control on the fly for certain applications.
I do not own a pair of Edifier R1700BT speakers, however, I picked up a pair of Creative T40 Series II at the goodwill for $20 and all I can say is wow what great speakers they are at low to medium volume and for extremely nearfield listening. I have them placed right next to the sides of my computer monitor so they are around 24 inches from my ears. I am not saying anything bad about the Edifier R1700BT which probably sound quite a bit better, just praising the T40s in this one particular situation and at the price point which I acquired them for. BTW, soft dome tweeter rule!
l’Edifier a un son beaucoup plus précis, les basses sont plus profonde. Mais franchement pour le prix , si c'est pour de la musique récréative, les créative valent vraiment le coup, elle sont nettement meilleur que les bose dans la même catégorie !
After hearing this review, I opted for the T40's. Yes because they were cheaper direct on Creative website but I 'thought' I preferred the fuller mid range but I made a mistake. The Creatives dont sound rubbish but the idea behind upgrading a speaker set up is to try and get the best for the budget. The biggest issue with Creative T40's speakers is; they produce too much muffled mid range. It sounds a bit messy and there's quite alot of drone to the mid range and lows. This is due to the Creatives having 2x identical sized drivers and lightweight bodies, where as the Edifiers have a large drive and tweeter, and solid bodies so the sound is broader, more balanced.
A great plus in the Creatives is that they don't apply any DSP to the sound, there's no added artificial "depth" to it - for some types of music this is very negative ans it muffles the overall effect to a great degree.
The Edifier has more bass, actually, too much IMHO. The problem with this kind of bass test is that it actually shows nothing about the quality of the bass, only the amount of it. The tracks show more, but a double bass solo or similar would be nice to have. Actually neither of these speakers has good quality bass - I suggest the Microlab 5c or 6c for that in this price category.
Thanks for my request ! In my opiniom t40 is not worth this price. Odc t20 sound good as small speakers. But if you want good speakers better add extra money and buy 1700.
The Edifer speakers would be my choice if I had the room. But I went with the Creative's due to their smaller foot print. No regrets in my purchase. Actually after listening to this some more it seems in some tracks the T40's have lower tones that are more present while in other tracks the Edifer speakers have better lower tones lol. Guess its a toss up for me.
The T20s are pretty good but the T40s are flawed as hell. Long cabinet with no baffling or stuffing means they drone like crazy at some frequencies. They also seem to use the same amp as the T20s. Side by side I was able to turn the T20s up pretty high and get decent sound from them. The T40s struggled to volume match them, and distorted horribly. The T20 seems to have been the original design, while the T40s were like "add more drivers, don't bother with engineering". Just awful.
@Lars Andersen The T20s are really good. I liked mine a lot before I moved up to bigger and better speakers. I tried to get the T40s as a stop-gap... nope. Awful. Totally different speaker as far as sound and volume. The T40s just suck. Migraines for days due to resonance. The T20s are a vastly better speaker.
2 years ago I had the T40s as Pc Desktop speakers for 2 weeks, then the insufficient quality took place. Got replaced them to a new pair, same after some days. Right back. Bought concept B20 Mk II from Teufel instead, excellent!
As an audiophile, the edifiers sound better. As a consumer, the Creatives look better and are smaller footprint. Unfortunately the Creatives are much older and technology gets better with age.
I tried them both, and actually, the Creative has a far more listenable sound signature. The Edifier has boomy bass, and too bright upper midrange which makes it appealing for the first time (or here), but on a long run they are unusable IMHO. For example, I could not listen to classical music on them because of the harsh upper midrange. The Creative T40 is not a flawless speaker, but for this price it is very good and while entertaining, still relaxing. In other words: just right.
T60 and T100. T100 is better but I'm not sure if it's better than T20.. Maybe louder? I'm not sure about that. In my opinion, T20 is better than T40. Less loud a bit, but it's better.
I had both, in real life the Edifier has too much upper frequency, and too much bass, actually. It's frequency response is so V-shaped, that it was unbearable to me, so I returned it. Its EQ did not help. The Creative T40 can sound a bit boxy sometimes, and has boomy bass, but overall it is still a much better listening experience IMHO, due to its relatively balanced frequency response and quite detailed mids.
The t40's will sound better with vocals, if you turn the bass down some, and treble up. Not hard to do. Just got these and mine with the same song doesn't sound muffled like thhis at all, not even close.
He's not used the tone control. Set it to 4 o clock and they become incredible. They are for comfortable, detailed non fatiguing listening at safe levels.
Great video but not a good comparison, tiny drivers can't move the same amount of air volume as larger drivers, also wood is superior to plastic as a housing for speakers. So Edifier will always win this test, well done though
Both are very nice the creatives are a little bit more deep. The other one is a little bit more clear pitched. It's a very hard decision but I like the creatives I bought them I love them
Thank you so much for your work. I'm currently owning a T40 II and I really want to compare it with other speakers. It is very helpful to see how soft it is in comparison with the Edifier. My question is, if the Edifier R1700BT is already better than the Creative T40 II, does it mean that more expensive Edifier like R2730DB (which I'm considering buying) far above the Creative? Could you please give your opinion? Many thanks!
It's not the logic you should apply for speakers. Every speaker has its own sound character which you may like or not. Evaluate them on their own, and don't predict based on their price or model number.
Why my ears are finding T40 better and can be listened for hours, while Edifier feels like bass filtered out speakers. Anyone else feeling same? Btw i own none.
Actually I tried both, and the T40 is a far more listenable speaker. The Edifier has harsh midrange which has some sparkle at the first time, but became very harsh and tiring soon. The T40 has wonderful midrange considering the price, and is able to present lifelike instruments because of the flashy, full bodied midrange. And it is still exciting. I really recommend the T40 for music.
From what I can hear, The Edifier sounds a little richer (like fuller) than the T40 but I hear more nuances and instruments in the T40 than the Edifier.
agreed, Creative has a sound signature that is open and quite easy to listen to, though we can clearly hear the sound of plastic cabinet from this comparison
If you can forgive the box coloration of the T40, it will offer a much easier listening experience on the long run. Edifier 1600/1700 "rings", and I can't bear their sound after very short listening period. I had both.
Can we really tell how they sound while listening to in here on totally different speakers? I've just ordered a pair of T40's as my 20 year old Inspire 5300s have started popping constantly and it's messing with my sanity lol. Maybe i'll find out it's not the speakers and actually the soundcard at fault though?
i heard both at a shop recently and 1st i shall explain the type of consumer i am? when it comes to audio i strictly go for SQ never looks/cool appeal so after hearing to both if i had to buy one i would pick the Edifier cos for me it just sound more "musical" and in the long term one would enjoy them more as a daily driver (again my personal opinion/experience)
just my 2 cents but it feels like they are not really meant for the same thing... one is a book-shelf speaker and the other is a quasi monitor meant for computers . Also the price is not even close atm... I can get a pair of the T40 for $120-$150 CAD but the R1700BT are still around $210CAD.
I already tested Lunas about two years ago and foud them to be decent speakers with great style, but for someone looking for the best sound quality at this price range Edifier R1700BT is much better choice ;) If I get the chance to test them again and make some proper comparisons I sure will. Cheers!
I got the t40 series 2 after having the t20 and the t40 sucks imo. Much "bassier" at the cost of accuracy leading to always needing to turn the volume up and down during movies. Plus they go to sleep and need a few seconds to wake up everytime. The t20s don't do this. I use the t20s on my TV via the green audio cable and it automatically works for every input, ps5, pc, series X xbox, cable box, TV. Just set to max volume on the speakers and use the regular TV remote to turn the volume up and down. Tried 2 sound bars with different issues and still using the t20s after owning them for 8+ years. Wouldn't recommend the t40s though.
@R4M 845 There is no fix for the t40s I'm afraid. I think the European ones don't have delay, supposedly its meant be a feature. I'm in Australia and have the delay with the t40s.
From the sound of this, alls you need to do is increase the treble a tad on the creative. And then it would sound about the same. This test is really just a lack of proper adjustment. The creatives are not designed to be best sounding out of box. They are for people who want control over it. Thus why you can adjust the bass, and treble with ease.
Sir, your are great! I'm listening to this test with my t40s, so of course I'm biased :-) I paid just 80€ for them a couple of years ago, so it was good for the time. I'm addicted to the boxy sound and muddly frequencies. Albeit not for classical music. Will I make it safely back to good audio? I like how the r1700BTs looks, but I would prefer to spend a little more and take the r2000. They seem to be even more of a substantial upgrade.
Actually R1700BT and R2000DB are very close to each other in sound quality. R2000DB is a bit more powerful and has few extra hertz of bass response but the rest is more or less the same. If Your room is not very big than R1700BT is as good choice.
Than You have a choice between R1850DB, which is new upgraded version of R1700BT with additional optical/coaxial input and subwoofer output, and mentioned R2000DB. R2000DB is 25% more expensive. If you have the space to put the speakers away from the back wall then R2000DB is still viable option, but if You need speakers closer than 10cm from the back wall than go with R1850DB.
creative is better you need eq and a card to play music and see difference i saw huge! plus rom song and sound production you see and hear big differens
t40 more details! and better quality sound...edifier almost as good with greater bass! for dance mousic i would choose edifier. for rock and metal T40!
Exactly. Far more listenable on the long run, than the Edifier 1700 (1600). The only Edifier that can exceed it is the r2000db, but it still has worse treble IMHO.
Muy bien segun mis oídos al Creative le mejoraría la caja para ajustar las frecuencias medio graves y al Edifien contolaria mejor las frecuencas graves hacia los medios..bien animo con alegrías..
@@DaRealMaus The T40 sounds better than the EDs. He's just got the bass too high and treble too low in this video. Mine with the exact song sound crystle clear vivid and alive. This video is a joke.
@@crazytech5755 yeah no, T40s definitely do NOT sound better than the EDs, i recently purchased the R2000DB's, which are a little better than the R1700, but not by much, and they're in a completely different league than my brother's T40's EDIT: and ofcourse your IRL T40s are gonna sound better than a speaker that's been recorded using a microphone, that's like the most obvious thing ever. But since the two speakers are recorded with the same microphone, they both suffer in the same way and it's still a decently viable way to compare the two
My T40 MkII set died on me (the volume button wouldn't click on/light up after a few years) so I sold them spares or repairs. My partner "surprised" me with a new pair from Amazon - only for me to find that Logitech have a stupid ten minute power off "new feature" on EU models. They went straight back. So, just by chance, I bought the Edifier R1700BT. Along the way I added a Suca Audio Tube-01 and FX Audio DAC-X6 and they sound fantastic, so much nicer than the Logitech T40 MkII. (Also purchased Soviet tubes, AmazonBasics RCA cables and new 3A power supplies for the Chi-Fi units - new op amps next). I've heard the R1700BTS (subwoofer out model) actually sounds less bassy than the original, not sure how true that is?
Not gonna lie, I think its really split on this one, on Long Drive I think the vocals carry a bit better on the Edifiers, but on Full Speed the Edifiers just sound suuuuuper flat and boring to me. If I'm gonna listen to anything like Fuzz or stoner metal I'd need something to supplement the low end for the Edifiers, whereas the T40s feel a bit better rounded. This is from the perspective of someone who isn't an audiophile, just someone who consumes a lot of media. I would say that the Edifiers might have a little bit more clarity, but its honestly hard for me to tell since their profiles are so different.
Average consumers precept lifted treble as 'clarity' very often. Actually, it is a trick that many companies apply in this category unfortunately. Due to this the sound seems for the non-audiophile crowd clearer at first, they buy it, and then they experience the longer listening unpleasant. But the company applied this trick already has their money. That's why most budget speakers have this V-shaped profile, unfortunately.
prob Edifier R1700BT but t40 sound better on video the t40 have better bass but is it a boomy base I have thet40 ones but not plugged in and might start using them But I have a Yamaha 5.1 setup that will be much better.
To me the T40 like other Creative sound airy and lack punch/presence. Tbh they actually sound plasticky/hollowed out like a fancy clock radio from the past.
There is absolutely no difference between the T40 and the edifier that i can hear in this comparison. In addition the Edifier is not made for PC connection with no 3.5 jack input, so you need converting cables between your sound card and the speaker. Really pointless comparison.
Like every other speaker these days, they both fall off of the 60hz cliff. (Sigh.) The more comparisons I listen to, the less I like the speakers I thought were good.

T40 is actually much more musical. It is far from a perfect speaker set, but still enjoyable for the money IMHO.

R1700BT = worth the investment.

De speakers sets zijn bijde even goed. Het is net als met bie en wijn. Het heeft puur met smaak te maken. Ieder model speaker heeft zijn eigen klank.
Edifier is the winner for all test!
Why my ears are finding T40 better and can be listened for hours, while Edifier feels like bass filtered out speakers. Anyone else feeling same? Btw i own none.
I have the same feelings
You are deaf.
agreed
mee too
Actually I tried both, and the T40 is a far more listenable speaker.
So t40 at $65 is good price for standard gaming? Black friday deal....
Very good test ! Thank you !
the t40s are ok if you are playing guitar ?
just my 2 cents but it feels like they are not really meant for the same thing... one is a book-shelf speaker and the other is a quasi monitor meant for computers . Also the price is not even close atm... I can get a pair of the T40 for $120-$150 CAD but the R1700BT are still around $210CAD.
Great job and which one did you like better? ;-)
Thanks! R1700BT is heads and shoulders above T40 IMO
when you have time can you test Edifier USA e25HD Luna Eclipse HD 2.0 Bluetooth Speakers thank you! keep up the great job.
I already tested Lunas about two years ago and foud them to be decent speakers with great style, but for someone looking for the best sound quality at this price range Edifier R1700BT is much better choice ;) If I get the chance to test them again and make some proper comparisons I sure will. Cheers!
Nice ..
And what do you think about microlab solo 7c .
They have similar prices
I have not tested Solo 7C yet so can't give You my opinion. I will try to test them soon so stay tuned ;)
Thanks
Creative T40 sounds better. I am listening through my Topping D50 DAC. Matter of taste I think.
I ordered t40 because I don't like bass + t40 has a better design.
I will go to buy R1700.
My room is small. But what about the optical port? I have it on my pc and would like to use it instead of buying a DAC.
Didn't know about R1850DB model. I found them in only 1 ebay shop available in Europe at 180€ + shipping (I'm in Italy)
You can buy R1850db in this place:
www.photopoint.ee/en/peripherals/988158-edifier-speakers-r1850db-matte-black-2-16x2
creative is better you need eq and a card to play music and see difference i saw huge! plus rom song and sound production you see and hear big differens
I think only in speed musik T40 win..

Price is Edifier 150euro , creative 99euro with free creative flex headphones worthy 35euro. 65e for speakers creative. Compare this.
Anyone knows name of the song in retro wave? it was pure eargasm for me :)

The Creative T40 II, would be a good fit for the Dollars store with of course a price adjustment.
That's a bit dramatic, it's still massively better sound than most consumer grade audio products at the same price!
Thank you!
To my 71 years old ears the Edifiers sound better as I like a warm sounding speakers which the Edifier seems to deliver.
t40s' are great spekaers.. I have 2 pairs and love them.. Puf puf vs bam bam :
Listen to this on my Creative T40 II speakers :-)
Привет! Отличный, наглядный тест акустики!

T40
Edifier
Edifier is more clear, Creative has more bass sound. I prefer edifier at overall score.
t40 more details! and better quality sound...edifier almost as good with greater bass! for dance mousic i would choose edifier. for rock and metal T40!
T40 sounds horrible, guess you never heard one in person.
@@Daumex +1 for that. They are absolutely awful in person.
@@Daumex i have them im am a musician never had sound issious
Son total mente iguales casi no hay diferencias los dos son extraordinarios
Please compare Edifier R1700BT & Edifier Luna Eclipse
creative balanced
Exactly. Far more listenable on the long run, than the Edifier 1700 (1600). The only Edifier that can exceed it is the r2000db, but it still has worse treble IMHO.
First series looks much better in the grey. Audioengine A1 is in grey and best in class I imagine. I even thought about paining t40 series 2.
Muy bien segun mis oídos al Creative le mejoraría la caja para ajustar las frecuencias medio graves y al Edifien contolaria mejor las frecuencas graves hacia los medios..bien animo con alegrías..
Creative 8 Edifer 7
Can u try to test with mifa x5 with T20 T40
It is the first time I hear about them, I will look into that ;)
It is just me or the t40 handles way better the lows?
Yeah that's just you
@@DaRealMaus The T40 sounds better than the EDs. He's just got the bass too high and treble too low in this video.
Mine with the exact song sound crystle clear vivid and alive. This video is a joke.
@@crazytech5755 yeah no, T40s definitely do NOT sound better than the EDs, i recently purchased the R2000DB's, which are a little better than the R1700, but not by much, and they're in a completely different league than my brother's T40's
EDIT: and ofcourse your IRL T40s are gonna sound better than a speaker that's been recorded using a microphone, that's like the most obvious thing ever. But since the two speakers are recorded with the same microphone, they both suffer in the same way and it's still a decently viable way to compare the two
mids are gone on the edifiers
I've heard the R1700BTS (subwoofer out model) actually sounds less bassy than the original, not sure how true that is?
in my local dealer,t40 cost same to r2000db
Edifier wins
bought t40 for pc, r1700bt for living room
That's why most budget speakers have this V-shaped profile, unfortunately.
prob Edifier R1700BT but t40 sound better on video the t40 have better bass but is it a boomy base I have thet40 ones but not plugged in and might start using them But I have a Yamaha 5.1 setup that will be much better.
edifier is like giveing what he can with no catch. Creative is oversaturated. But creative is better cause very much cheaper on used market
XD
T40 is better thick mid-hi while edifier is not
I don't like them both. I'd rather have something in between.
To me the T40 like other Creative sound airy and lack punch/presence. Tbh they actually sound plasticky/hollowed out like a fancy clock radio from the past.
Edifier R1700BT aka F@CK Creative even Harder!!!!
Apples, meet oranges.
Holy. R1700bt only cost usd$60 after tax in China.
There is absolutely no difference between the T40 and the edifier that i can hear in this comparison. In addition the Edifier is not made for PC connection with no 3.5 jack input, so you need converting cables between your sound card and the speaker. Really pointless comparison.
Edifier has warmer, less congested sound. Cable to connect to pc is included.
Like every other speaker these days, they both fall off of the 60hz cliff. (Sigh.) The more comparisons I listen to, the less I like the speakers I thought were good.
T40 lose out big time....smaller drives, limited connection at similar price range....
huge difference 😉
haha não acreditooooooooooo creative perdeu
t40 is clears sound and bright sound. edifier is fat basss.. morethan everybody setting is not same
edifier is better
This is so stupid. These speakers are made for to completely different tasks. R1700BT is made for hifi and T40 is made for gaming and PC.
Creative is better
Edifier goood goood, others bad
Full speed - chalk and cheese, sounds terrible on the T40
