- To celebrate the official merging of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroads, the now CPKC ran a three-country excursion featuring the newly restored Royal Hudson - Canadian Pacific 2816, dubbed "The Empress". The excursion would run south out of Calgary to Mexico City, then back north. On the way, it would pass through Kansas City, MO, where I would chase it south to Shreveport, LA and then north to Davenport, IA. Enjoy!
Time-stamps:
(0:18) - Southbound out of Kansas City, MO - 5/21/2024
(0:19) - Crossing Blue Parkway in Kansas City, MO
(1:15) - Belton, MO
(2:11) - Drexel, MO
(2:32) - Amos, MO
This is unfortunately where I experienced car trouble, and fell behind quite a bit. But thankfully I caught up before Heavener!
(3:24) - Stillwell, OK
(4:36) - Bunch, OK
(6:03) - Muldrow, OK
(7:13) - A southbound local freight pulled by a pair of KCS geeps at Howe, OK

(8:21) - Mena, AR
(9:09) - Cove, AR
(10:12) - Wickes, AR
(11:20) - Gillham, AR
(12:04) - De Queen, AR
(12:58) - Horatio, AR
(14:03) - At speed through Bloomburg, TX
(15:02) - Briefly pacing near Vivian, LA
(15:13) - Blanchard, LA
(15:31) - KCS SD40-2 #691 works the north end of Shreveport, LA
(17:25) - An eastbound TO&E train at De Queen, AR
(18:51) - Northbound out of Kansas City, MO - 7/1/2024
(18:52) - A northbound CPKC manifest at Lawson, MO with 2 KCS engines
(19:36) - Following shortly behind the manifest, Canadian Pacific 2816 heads north at Lawson, MO
(20:16) - Braymer, MO
(20:55) - A very good show at Laredo, MO, as 2816 brings the train back up to speed on its own, using the seldomly heard 6-chime whistle
(22:13) - Blakesburg, IA
(23:17) - Another great stack talk show as 2816 and its helpers begin to battle the Rutledge hill out of Ottumwa, IA
(25:08) - Farson, IA
(26:06) - Richland, IA
(26:57) - Washington, IA
(27:22) - Coming into Davenport, IA, meeting an ill-fated IPSCO local ready to head south... if you know, you know
(29:17) - Arriving into Nahant yard
Thanks for watching!
Man... it's just insane of how 2816 went the distance on this trip though. :)
And even if regarding what happened in Mexico, it was still awesome seeing The Empress back in action after a bit of a hiatus since after 2012. ^^
My Favorite Steam Locomotive that lives in Canada. With my favorite Canadian Steam Locomotive in general being Canadian Pacific 1246. I’m happy that I was able to see Canadian Pacific 2816 back in April 24th of this year, 2024. I am going to get a DVD release of 2816’s IMAX Movie this Christmas that is known as The Rocky Mountain Express (From 2011). Canadian Pacific 2816 is a beautiful 4-6-4 “Hudson” Steam Locomotive, The Empress deserves some sweet popularness.
My favorite steam locomotive of all time.
Nice video!
