Also, theres a funny moment in a live from a few years back where Hongjoong reveals the guy who stole his laptop (which had 40+ songs he had written and composed for ATEEZ) was named Chris. in the live, he was staring dead at the camera and went "Chris, are you watching this?" 😂 which had all the members gasping that he would reveal the name like that haha. so yeah, Chris became a running joke/meme in the fandom and is now at the top of our sh*tlist of who to blame when things dont go the way we feel they should 😂

The members auditioned for Mixnine, a boy group creation show, in the latter half of 2017 and had already been winnowed down to the final 8 (it's where they became friends with members of ONF, ACE , and predebut Treasure). KQ Fellaz aired 4 or 5 months after Mixnine. The manager said Junyoung had only been training for a month and at that time, thought ATEEZ might debut in the summer. Between the fact the final 8 were on Mixnine and Junyoung would only have had 5 or 6 months of training before their tentatively scheduled debut, I don't think he was ever in the line up. KQ was clearly already thinking ahead for the next group. Yechan, xikers' (ATEEZ's Juniors) maknae, was likely signed around the same time or shortly after. He was already a KQ trainee when auditions were held for Under Nineteen, another boy group creation show (mid 2018), and was only thirteen at the time, so KQ was certainly planning ahead. BTW, Junyoung left KQ in 2020. Under Nineteen was my first real introduction to kpop. I didn't know who ATEEZ was at the time as they had just debuted. Yechan was such a cutie, he stole my heart. He was eliminated right before the finals. Imagine my surprise years later when, as an Atiny, I discovered he was a KQ trainee. I guess I can say I stanned xikers before ATEEZ 😉. I don't think anyone has told you about it, but thanks to this training in the US dance studio, Ateez has this rhythm and this unique way of dancing that other kpop groups don't have, it abounds in its choreography and the way of dancing the krump, hip-hop and multiple facial expressions.
the stolen laptop is very sad to me it wasn't only the guide files that were deleted back then homgjoong recently said in lee mujin service ep that his 40 songs that he made for ateez before debut were on that laptop too and although he did manage to send the mp3 files he doesn't have the courage to redo them again that was so heart broken to hear that from him
The excitement Hongjoong had for his overalls was so adorable. I was confused at first, too... then when Mingi shouted "Korean Big Minion" I was like... Awww... our Capitan wanted to visit Universal dressed up like one of the Minions. My heart...
I love that they are still this chaotic and enthusiastic now. But also have the sweet sides when they talk about their letters. One of my favorite Hongjoong clips ever. It just shows what kind of Captain he always was and I love it. I am going to watch your guide video tonight as a reward for setting up my classroom and getting my homework done. He talked about the laptop thing again on the lee mujin show. It really hit him hard. But he's such a hard worker and that's part of why I love him so much.

There was a clip from VLive that they did a couple years ago when they started the topic of reminiscing the trainee days. And the topic of Hongjoong's stolen laptop was brought up and he just straight up looking at the camera and pointing while saying "Chris are you watching?" Thus, we found out that the culprit was named Chris and the members were shooketh that he mentioned that guy 😭

It just makes me so mad and sad for our Captain to have had that experience ever, but also to have had it in the US, in the maiden voyage of the group, too. Grr. They're all such babies here, and it's awesome to re-watch these segments with you and remember how they were at the start, especially because they've done well enough for the company to produce a younger brother group for them now. Not to compare, because they're 5 years apart, but it's a whole different experience for the xikers members to be in an already successful company and have access to the elder group who has done this before and can help with guidance. Our boys grew up so well!

Hongjoong actually lost around 40 songs or so he made for ateez when his laptop got stolen. He ended up remaking some like 4 or 5 that are now released Ateez songs.
