    Another great video Darren. When loading the extractor, I have found that, if I load the extractor with frame 1, then place frame 2 across from it and continue that until the extractor is full (or in the case of a 9-frame extractor, load every third slot with successive frames) it will help keep the extractor balanced. Actually, in a 12-frame extractor, I load 1&6, then 3 &9 and repeat in successive slots. (This sequencing really works well if using a simple harmony farms uncapper). This is because the bees normally fill the center frames in a super and progress outward as they store honey. In Darren's case, it does not matter because virtually all of his frames were really full and he "cut to the wood" as opposed to removing the minimal amount of capping, which I do, realizing that does contribute to unbalanced extractor loads and uneven thickness in next year's frames. I also use 2 double strainers. While one is straining the other is draining and I scrape both screens clean using a plastic or rubber spatula and dump the scrapings back in the capping tank.

    • @JeromeBeeFarm
      @JeromeBeeFarm  3 месяца назад

      Hey Bob. Thanks for the comment. I've been looking at uncappers and the different styles. Does the Simple Harmony Farms uncapper get the skinny frames (ones that aren't drawn out to the wood and capped)?? I've been looking at that style as well. I sure like the speed of those. Things I wonder about it is how much it tears up the cells and if it will get those skinny frames, also how many cells does it miss. . . when you pull the frames out of the extractor are they completely cleaned out or are there some residual cells remaining that didn't get oppened up well or at all. Another thing about that style is you don't get your cappings wax to harvest. I use a lot of my wax to coat plastic foundation and make a few candles. I sure like the speed of the thing though. Thanks again.

    • @bobfanning6816
      @bobfanning6816 2 месяца назад

      @@JeromeBeeFarm I have not had mine long but so far it does a really good job. I find that it opens "low" capped cells better than my hot knife. I find that, on low cells, if I re-insert the frame and rock it back and forth as I lower and raise, it gets most "low" caps. It has been my experience that the sliced combs sling as clean in my 12 frame Dadant extractor as fully uncapped (hot knife) combs. The combs come out pretty ragged looking but sling clean.
      You indeed do get very little capping wax. In my case, I get a lot more capping honey with the slicer but that is because, I do not “cut to the wood” with my hot knife, since you do, I think you will get less capping honey.
      I place a plastic outer cover under my supers when I put them out for the bees to clean. I get more “debris” wax there from sliced frames than I do from hot knife uncapped frames but nowhere near equal to the losses at uncapping.
      It is fast.

I’ve seen a Lyson steam uncapper that may fit on your uncapping tank that seams like a smart design if the combs are drawn out enough. Wow, impressive! Congratulations to all the winners! I agree with you about Hive Alive. I’ve been using it for a year or two. Last year, I used the fondant for winter, but in spring I used the pollen patties with Rocket fuel from Hillco. My bees are thriving so much, that I had 5 swarms. And Hillco is my go to supply company since you recommended them. I bought my first electric extractor from them this year and love it! I’m so glad your channel is doing well. How about coming to the Midwest Honeybee expo in January? It’s the first one and will be held in Waukesha, Wi. Thanks for all your hard work, not only in beekeeping, but just filming it all for us to enjoy. 😊🐝

I have a case of pollen patties wrapped up in the fridge in the apartment, so I'm ready for spring. lol. OA treatments up next, if it will stop raining this weekend. I'm not sure why they call that the "Midwest" expo if it's in Wisconsin. lol I looked it up, and my daughter just moved to Chicago, so I might work out a visit and make that. We'll see. I definitely would like to get a good deal on some type of uncapper to speed up my process. Thanks again!!

      @@bobfanning6816 I'm not concerned about the price, more the performance. The HF link is broken, like they don't sell it any longer. There's a lot of like ones on the market. Also, with the roller uncapper you get a lot of cappings in your honey during extraction, and you don't collect wax from your cappings (very little) to use for waxing your equipment.
