"Hello, and Welcome to greensocks' 10 man heroic halfus strategy guide.
In this guide i will cover the strategy used by our guild, Carpe Noctem (US-Darkspear)
In this encounter you will battle halfus, his proto-behemoth, and his mind controlled drakes.
You begin the encounter by engaging halfus and throughout the fight you can release the drakes.
These drakes help your raid by weakening halfus before they become mind controlled.
When the drakes are killed halfus will recieve a debuff increasing his damage taken.
(Our main tank pulls Halfus with a potion up to help mitigate the intense damage before the drake is released. The off tank then taunts halfus off when the main tank is at 6 stacks or so)
In our strategy we release 3 drakes as soon as we begin the encounter.
The drakes we release are: the whelps, the storm rider, and the nether scion.
This combination ensures that we will be able to interrupt halfus' shadow nova and it allows us to survive the proto-behemoths aoe attacks.
It also makes the tanks take less damage during the very healing intensive beginning part of this fight.
(Our main tank gathers up all the adds to help facilitate AoE damage while the off tank tanks Halfus.)
The first part of this fight is the most difficult. in our strategy there are 3 major mechanics to watch out for.
The first is the shadow nova halfus will periodically cast. by releasing the storm rider, this mechanic is interruptable.
it has a 1.5 second cast time and it is very important to interrupt this as if it is cast successfully it will do AOE damage and a knock back. often causing a wipe.
in our strategy we assign the tanks to take care of these interrupts.
The second mechanic to watch out for are the fireballs that the proto-behemoth will cast.
These are unavoidable until the time warden is released.
As such, the healers will have to heal through them.
you can see here what these look like.
it is important for all raid members to spread out to avoid splash damage from these.
The third mechanic to watch out for is the malevolent strikes debuff Halfus will apply to the tank.
It is reccomended that your tanks spec into avoidance to minimize stacks recieved.
We use BOPs and tank swapping to drop these stacks at around 8 stacks.
The whelps take top priority since their damage was signifcantly increased in a recent patch. Heavy AOE dps is required to kill these.
As soon as the whelps are down we release the time warden.
Note here that the fireballs are now avoidable since the time warden has been released.
It is recommended to wait till the last second to dodge these as doing so may allow you to dodge more than one in a single movement.
We kill the storm rider second and nether scion third.
In this strategy we do not release the slate dragon.
Some guilds prefer to release him because properly timed he can stun halfus immediately after his third furios roar, interrupting shadow nova.
Notice here that halfus will cast furios roar three times in quick succession. After the third roar he will begin casting shadow nova.
1,2,3, shadow nova
It is important to interrupt this because the raid will already be at low health and this can kill your raiders.
We use a mage to blink and counterspell this.
(it is possible for certain other classes for this, or even PvP trinkets)
From here on out it is smooth sailing.... Provided you can beat the tight 6 minute enrage timer.

This UI look's sweet, i love how you can see what DoT's are on which targets with the countdown timer's.. i would love this..

good luck! just remember, the first part is the absolute worst, if you can get thru it with your healers at like 20% mana, youre golden

We use 2 tanks, a DK and a paladin. We start the fight by having the pally pull the boss and as soon as the adds are up the DK taunts the boss and the pally gathers the whelps and drakes up.
We use Bops to drop the DK's malevolent strikes debuff and if we need to we have the pally taunt halfus so the DK can drop his stacks. as soon as the DK drops his stacks he would take halfus back. But with the DK stacking avoidance this taunt swap is rarely necessary.

U got a spelltimer that shows spellticks on several targets as one. What specific addon is that? Seems very useful, especially for spriests as urself.

That addon is called ForteXorcist accessed via /fx in-game. You can go in my addon pack and pull the config i use out of it if you want.
Can you tell me how much tanks healers we need ?

ya, is there a ghost by band of horses. check em out. i really like their stuff
@greensocks51 Well, for some reason, we let our DK tank (he was tanking Halfus) die and then as fast as he could, use soulstone to then get back up and taunt Halfus back. But the healers couldn't heal him up before he got omnomed by Halfus again. Ah well, too late now to do more Halfus Heroic with our current tier. :) Firelands ftw!

Just go into the addon pack i posted on wowinterface and still the config file.
How many tanks did u use?
@greensocks51 We actually had a little wipe-a-thon for an hour before we decided to change back to normal and clear through. We did not survive the first part ^^. But we didn't have the best setup for heroic attempts. No 3rd tank available. \o/

My UI is a version of Zaxx's UI. I downloaded it from wowinterface(dot)com its called ZaxxUI. Unfortunately he has a much better computer than I do. So all I got from his UI was the basic layout and the border artwork around each of the different panels. I created this one from "scratch" by referencing his interface. Zaxx has quite a few videos on youtube and has linked his UI in a few of them. His youtube account is ZaxxYarg.

I do not think the 3rd tank is the best way to do this fight. It is very important that your healers coordinate their CDs during that first phase. Dont forget things like spirit link totem, rally cry, and aura mastery.
@greensocks51 Hey mate. I've watched your video and I realy enjoyed it. It's even better then the tankspots video according to me. Anyway I've download the UI pack that you linked to "smugglare" anyway, this is the first time for me that I'm realy downloading an AddOn Pack, I usualy design my own UI. Anyway when I install it etc, is it suppose to look exactly as ur UI? or do I have to lay everything out and do a hell lot of shit after installing it and logged in? Please respond fast;) Thx

i know u got lot of addons on your screen, but there only one that i would like to get instead of all of them
The addons that interest me is the one that display all ur dots with the name of the mob who got the target on the bar .. that would be so much helpful and grind my shadow dps to the top :o

When you download the interface, its going to look awful when you open wow. But i included a readme file, and the info page on wowinterface explains how to set it up.
All you have to do is open the profile section of some of the addons and load the greensocks profile.
Also, the pack is not updated to include 4.2 version addons, a few in there are severely broken, Xforte, recount, omen, to name a few. Simply disable, or update those addons.
