  • Ramps are a delicious wild food in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. They've been here longer than humans. It's important that we respect that and learn to harvest them in a way that ensures they continue to thrive and produce food for animals, including humans.
In this video Chris Parker of The Forest Farmacy explains how to and how NOT to harvest wild ramps.

I'm over in East Tennessee mountains. I found bags of ramps with roots on at my local RediMart a couple of days ago! I did the same thing. Bought em and planted them on the back side of my property. If I had known better at the time I would have bought all the bags and planted them all. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for doing that Martha! Maybe send the video to the store manager?

Hi Hilary! We’re cultivating our ramp patch this year. We replanted all the bundles in the video. Maybe next year we will be able to supply ramps at the local markets.
