I’ve been there and that town is so cool! We went to a restaurant while visiting there that was haunted! The locals embrace it and told great stories about their ghosts. Great video! Thank you 😊
I have always wanted to visit these cemeteries in Salem. Such a horrible time where if you were accused nothing would stop your death. The ways they put them to death were horrific.
One of my bucket list travel locations is Salem, Mass. I know it's turned into more of a tourist trap, but the history of the city is so deep and rich. If you haven't been to St. Augustine yet, Whit, I would recommend a visit there!
I have lived in Salem all of my life, and this was very well done. I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit and you definitely gave people a lot of insight.
That’s really neat! I’m surprised they were given a decent burial. It’s like, from time to time, people were accused of being vampires. They’d get so paranoid that they’d dig the person up and remove the heart. If you get to Mississippi, check out the Yazoo City Witch. A really fascinating story and grave.
Any of them who were given decent burials had one only because their family retrieved their body, under the cover of darkness, from the pit they were heaved into as removing their remains was a criminal offense. People who were tried and acquitted would have been buried whereever they lived out the rest of their lives.
Hi ! Well this was quite the history story ! Imagine being pressed to death ! Torture was definitely front and center back then ! Thanks for a very interesting vlog ! Take care ! Deborah Canada
I took a trip there when I was young in the late 90's. I met Laurie Cabot who autographed a book for me, I got to see so much! It was a trip I won't forget, it was my first trip on my own & I'm in Indiana. I love history & really like to see when it's preserved/maintained! Thank you, great video as always. Love, hugs & God Bless you 💕💕
I live in Chicago and go to Salem every few years. The dark history is very harsh of our country for sure. Yet, it's such a beautiful place. Those puritans were evil to families, women and children then they started hanging men. Probably because most of Salem's women were dead. I always wanted to know where all those that were accused of witchcraft are actually buried. A historian once told me that their families would bury them on private property with no head stone. The cemetery is just a memorial ( in the side section) for the accused. Very sad.
This has always been an interesting story. It is really so sad that it isn't just a story but a dark time in history. Thanks for sharing it and showing us around the memorial and grave yard. I really do enjoy your videos!
I'm going there next month, I love paranormal and spooky, yet comfortable scenery, especially under the moon or sunsets in the cool autumn. This is my first ever vacation, so I'll enjoy every second of it.
If you want to visit another Witch Trials site check out "Salem Town". Otherwise known as Danvers, Mass. The Rebecca Nurse house is located at 149 Pine St. In a field (at least it was a field the last time I was there) behind the house is another cemetery associated with the trial and it's victims. I had family that lived on a bordering street and enjoyed visiting the house and grounds.
Great job. Amazing research 👍🏻 it’s so sad that hysteria led to so many unjust deaths. You surely did get in a ton a travels in. Can’t wait to see what you have in store next👍🏻👍🏻
very interesting video. I had to study the Salem Witch Trials my junior year in high school and write a paper on it. I think that was a movie about it not sure how old the movie is though.
Too cool I’ve never seen the cemetery in walk, just individual stones. It’s really neat ! Sarah Wildes-Perkins was hung I believe, she’s in my tree. So 🧙♀️ watch out lol
@@Whittdocs hi Chris you accidentally sent me a reply you meant for Ken. Course I don’t mind just a human error but I wanted to tell ya in case you wanted to reply to Ken lol. Love ya guys !
I read in a book that one of the girls said years later none of this was true and she was sorry they hanged.an old lady someone wanted.her land her son recovered her body and secretly buried it great video
Salem is on my bucket list. After seeing this, it just moved up on the list. This is a great video. Little known fact (I think) Ann Holland was supposedly the 1st accused witch in the new world. Her granddaughter was actually married to John Proctor. Her other granddaughter is a great grandmother x?? to my husband.
Interesting you put this up today. Just a couple days ago the state pardoned the only one convicted that wasn't cleared in 1711. Elizabeth Johnson was her name. I did a quick search for her grave and didn't find it listed anywhere ( I could easily have missed it. It wasn't a very thorough search). Not all that were convicted were executed. She was one that wasn't executed and spent the rest of her life trying to clear her name.
This is good brief cursory overview of the Salem trials, there certainly is an awful lot more to it than this. And it touched much more than Salem or Salem Village, Andover for one example had the highest number of people accused of Witchcraft than any other town.
Been there. So sad that none had a proper burial. A distant ancestor....a Samuel Barton....felt the girls who caused all of this needed their tushes paddled and was so disgusted with this moved his family to the west....western Massachusetts. The things you learn when researching family history.
I watched a documentary that claimed there was a mold that grew on the grain grown locally and subsequently on the bread produced as well . This mold affected the brain and caused the type of hysteria described in reports. So a chemical imbalance in the human might have something to do with it. I'd be hard pressed to cite the documentary 'cause it's been many years since I've seen it.
I have a friend that is the direct descendant of the first witch killed. Also, quick question. Other than Salem, are there any other places that this happened? I've never heard of anywhere else.
The true memorial is here in Salem next to Walgreens on Boston st, couple years ago they found out the real spot was actually where that Walgreens now stands , pretty wild stuff 🤷🏻♂️ the one you went to is the tourist trap😂
Very interesting information in this video Chris. Since the victims where found innocent then I wonder if the decendants of them received any type of compensation since they were wrongly convicted by the government of Massachusetts. Thanks Chris
Or, if someone wanted your farm, just accuse them of Witch Craft. This was the biggest reason for the accusation's other then if they just didn't like someone.

I think it was illegal to bury an accused, convicted witch in the town cemeteries, so the family would take the body home and bury it on their farms.

It was the same for me too.
I learned so much from this video 👍🏻 Fine work indeed ✌️
Thank you so much.
Well done, thanks for this story. I am glad that they were all exonerated. RIP to all of the victims of this terrible injustice.
Great job!!! I've always wanted to go see Salem

Thanks for another history lesson Chris. You explain things so well and so clearly. You should be a teacher.

it is soothing to see, that sometimes someone seems to place flowers on the stones.

It truly is
I would love to visit Salem someday. Such a sad story!
Great video. Finally get to see these. So interesting. It's frightening to think of mass hysteria. Love the video, Chris.
Thanks so much
One of the best videos I have ever seen! And to think people were that ignorant. Thank you so much for this history lesson! WOW

John Proctor was a distant cousin of mine

Hi Chris. Do you know when the stone memorials were built? I'm thinking long after the Salem Witch Trials?
You’re right. They memorial was made in the early 90s
Wow!
JUST TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT ALL THE HISTORY
Thank goodness we no longer can make such accusations

Thank you for remember the victims. Sad moment of human history. The murders are result of ignorance and intolerance.
Are you a good witch or a bad witch
Hey could you go visit the grave of former Penn State coach Joe Paterno....please
This has not changed in the last 400 years. Paranoia, mob mentality, ignorance , accusations & mass hysteria is still present today.
I. Am learning something from history of America history of people families and or decents now

Even if they where witches they didnt deserve this injustices
Yea well having hysterical Christians for neighbors didn't help any.
As long as they didn't Burn 🔥Samantha Stephens, She was Hot enough as it was.😎 Good Vlog Chris.👍
Nice statue of her there! I got a pic with it.
People still being punished n tortured today … just somehow “ legally “
I think many innocent women were framed as a witch. May be due to property
ITS VERY WRONG WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE I AM A BIG HISTORY BUFF

Paranoia, Mass Hysteria, mob mentality, and scapegoating. Sounds like modern times, not the past.
