Ralf Scheepers is awesome. Vocals for GammaRay for the first few albums (before Kai Hansen took over). Then applied for the position of lead singer for Judas Priest when Rob Halford went solo for a while - but the spot went to Ripper Owen’s. So Scheepers went back to Germany and founded Primal Fear (A great German band that you should definitely check out). GammaRay always created great music, no matter who was on vocals. Great reaction. This style was still fairly new in 1990, starting in the mid 80's with Helloween (Kai Hansen's former band). It only had brief exposure over here with Helloween in the late 80's on Headbanger's ball, but it's never gone away in Europe. It has become more popular over here through the years thanks to the internet though.
I think it never caught on big here outside of Helloween cause we had prog metal too like Savatage and Queensryche which has similarities , German bands too.for whatever reason outside the Scorpions never seem to get big here either Warlock/Bonfire/Accept etc. had their fan bases but never really hit and come to think of it outside of English bands its pretty scarce for other Euro countries Krokus /D.A.D. /Pretty Maids etc. .
