The clothes are so short because it looks like the kind of attire one would wear and perform in at matsuri, or festival. These tops with shorts are traditionally worn on those occasions, and often there are group dances like this.
@truesouthcorn Actually Austin is an exception, it has this whole alternative vibe, hippie culture etc. Janis Joplin studied at UT Austin. And whole foods showed up @ Austin. That's why Austin is so cool: it combines Texas' hospitality with Austin's alternative culture :-)
I guess for some japanese, as some japanese may like it as well. Japan is rich and diverse and new generations like funny things as everywhere else... maybe.
I'm no sure why they are short. I thought it was traditional . All the Japanese performers and management were very polite and easy going. They were a pleasure to work for. We had fun shooting them. See my website for more videos.
@truesouthcorn I live in Texas. (: The thing is it's so big that it really depends where you go. It's true that some parts are very conservative. Some are accepting and culturally diverse. Take me for example, I live in San Antonio and I LOVE this music.
These are not 'miniskirts', but happi, which are festive jackets worn at matsuri. Happi have been worn since the Tokugawa period, so it's quite traditional.
@Ebunnyluv So very true! My obasan wanted me to learn to play the shamisan, and I and learning slowly, the position is the reason I do not practice as much as I should.
There are many different branches of the conservative tree. I am open to different cultures and new ideas, yet consider myself conservative because I believe in the merits of limited, constitutional government, fiscal responsibility, free markets, freedom of association and (whenever possible) empowering states and local communities.
it is ,unless you don't have some one who can take care of you,its a little bit expansive...it is one of the most expensive country in the world, but its a paradise.i will marry whit a japanese girl, and i can say its the bestest things that happend to me since i was born :).bottom of line, you should go...and have fun
very true, Japanese music--even though it still sounds asian-- has a very distinct and unique sound that differs it from chinese or any other oriental music, and it's almost kind of....mysterious. Japan is probably one of the most unique cultures of this world...
No, that was not a real geisha. And Memoirs is a really inaccurate movie, too...try looking through the bookstores of your local Japanese/Asian markets to see real geisha. They are very beautiful. :)

@truesouthcorn Texas "IS" super-conservative, but Austin may as well be like San Francisco or Key West. It's a great city!
@truesouthcorn Texas is generally conservative. Austin, our capital, is the exception. XD Lol.

It also depends on you body shape, though, I don't think sumo wrestlers sit in seiza much... but otherwise, yes, mostly it's a question of practice.
