  • Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond The Sword is the second expansion pack of the turn-based strategy video game Civilization IV. The expansion focuses on adding content to the in-game time periods following the invention of gunpowder, and includes more general content such as 11 new scenarios, 10 new civilizations, and 16 new leaders.
Civilization IV (also known as Sid Meier's Civilization IV) is a 4X turn-based strategy computer game and the fourth installment of the Civilization series. It was released in North America, Europe, and Australia, between October 25 and November 4, 2005.
Civilization IV uses the 4X empire-building model for turn-based strategy gameplay, in which the player's main objective is to construct a civilization from limited initial resources. Most standard full-length games start the player with a settler unit and/or a city unit in the year 4000 BC. As with other games in the series, there are by default five objectives the player can pursue in order to finish the game: conquering all other civilizations, controlling a supermajority of the game world's land and population, building and sending the first sleeper ship to the Alpha Centauri star system, increasing the "Culture ratings" of at least three different cities to "legendary" levels, or winning a "World Leader" popularity contest by the United Nations. If the time limit for the game is reached and none of the previous goals has been fulfilled by any players including game AI players, the civilization with the highest total game score is declared winner. A large departure from earlier Civilization games is a new graphics engine created from scratch, based on the Gamebryo engine by Numerical Design Limited (NDL).
Beyond the Sword offers several new features:
Corporations: A new gameplay feature, similar to the "religion" feature, allows players to create corporations and spread them throughout the world. Each corporation provides benefits in exchange for certain resources.
Espionage: Now available much earlier in the game, this expanded feature offers players many new ways to spy on opponents, stir citizen unrest and defend their government's secrets.
Random Events: New random events such as natural disasters, pleas for help, and demands from their citizens will challenge players to overcome obstacles in order for their civilizations to prosper. Random events can also be beneficial, such as scientific breakthroughs and incidents that improve relations with a neighbor.
Advanced Starts: When starting the game in any era, this new option allows the player to purchase components for an already-developed nation.
Expanded Space Victory: Obtaining a space victory is now more difficult and requires more strategy and decision-making than before.
Expanded Diplomatic Victory: It is now possible to achieve diplomatic victories much earlier in the game, and to defy resolutions.
New Game Options: Beyond the Sword offers various new game options, like new world-types and the option to play any leader-civilization combination.

Why are you building granaries so early?

Not sure lol, I just like having granaries as early as possible to allow for faster city growth as I'm playing on an easy difficulty. If I were to play on a higher difficulty I would focus on buildings that improve income.

@@longplays4days oh, I just started playing like a month ago so I’m trying to learn the game. Personally instead of granaries I go for libraries to get basic research and rush divine right for income

Yep, it all depends on difficulty level. At lower difficulty levels income won't be a problem.
