Shakespeare's Cave

- Shakespeare's Cave is in Cwm Pwca, which translates as Valley of the Goblin, which is downstream of Devil's Bridge in the Clydach Gorge.
A stream resurges from the cave which offers a sporting trip involving a thorough soaking even in summer.
Cavers are all members of Dudley Caving Club and/or South Wales Caving Club.
This video was awarded a merit at Hidden Earth 2013. Hidden Earth is the UK national caving conference.

Thanks for the feedback. I always anguish about whether a video is good enough to publish. As you can see this one took 15 months and 2 trips to produce. The new GoPro camera has made a lot of shots possible that I could not have captured before and it does handle the low light conditions very well.
imagine the early explorers with flame lights....

Getting stuck in front of a big spider in your face... just imagine that.
Yeah! With your arms stuck, and then the little spider babies start crawling out of the back of the spider and all of them start entering through your nose to escape the raising water that is at the level of your chin at that moment! Also the cave is closing just to break a couple of ribs just while you strugling for air while you fell the spider tickle in your brain! Haha...oh shit!

Spiders in my face, that would be nice, atleast they look like normal earth creatures. Try getting a giant pseudoscorpion just hanging near you. If you don't like spiders....You would love these lol.
Thank goodness you do these caves so we don'y have to. That one would give me the heebie jeebies for sure. On a different note, you have racked up the quality of the shots, lighting and editing to a high enough standard that it woud not be out of place watching this on any TV channal. Awesome job :o)

I was wathing Countryfile on BBC 1 on 24/4/16. They visited Cwm Pwca and showed the outside of this cave. It's obvious now why they didn't venture in! Great to see what it's like inside - I know I'm too much of a wimp to go in.
+Tom Rees Hi Tom. I watched Countryfile too and was a little disappointed that they only went as far as the entrance chamber. As you have seen it is a very sporting trip with lots of water and a few tight bits - great fun.
what happens if you're going in and another group of people are on their way out that time? is there a sign at the entrance that this cave is "occupied" ?

There's normally plenty of points big enough for groups to pass by.

Thanks Chris. Having 4 cavers with Scurions really helps with the lighting.
Many people watching this don't realise that the water temperature is 10C or about 50 F year round as well as the air and after you get soaking wet you feel really cold when you stop moving.

The more of your videos I watch.. the less I get disturbed about the tight spaces.. interesting.. I still can't and wouldn't do it lol.. being a massive man is all the excuse I need!

i would never be able to any of that stuff. im telling you right now. i am claustrophobic and spiders terrify me even the little diddy ones haha. plus im like 6 foot 3 inches and 85 kgs lol. im a big guy. my biggest fear in a cave like that is getting stuck and not being able to get unstuck. or haveing to go underwater for a bit and getting stuck and drowning to death. no thanks im not too woosy to say. im not manly enough for cave diveing lol.

Tony Salusbury Thanks Tony. My GoPro is a 3 Black Edition. It has good low light capability. I've just bought the BacPac LCD screen which means I can now frame shots correctly.

Me: oh well, it's gonna be another 100 to get through this hell hole.
The cave expert: Sigh....I will kill you myself if you come with us next time.
Me: Don't worry, I'm gonna kill myself if it means that I'll have to go through this sh$* again!
The cave expert: .....So!.....what now?!
Me: give me a motivational speech again, and don't copy the last one, it doesn't work anymore, make a new one.

No. It just makes it even more fun trying to squeeze past one another.

4:22 I'm no cave diver (and i intend to stay that way)...but wouldn't it be very easy to be negotiating under there and get stuck in a brief bit where your head was under water...and that's how you die? You people don't even qualify as fearless. Just completely insane.

Pleased you like my videos. Yes the boxes we use are waterproof and are used to protect cameras, spare batteries, lights, etc. Please keep watching.

Solymr21 Pleased you like the video. The boxes contain cameras and flash guns. These boxes not only provide protection, they are also waterproof.
This actually isnt bad at all, compared to the crawling with 9 inches of space below and above caves

What camera equipment did you use to video this? It's great!
Thanks Judy. I used 2 cameras - a Panasonic HX-WA10 waterproof camcorder and a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition with waterproof mount. It's the lighting that makes the biggest impact on these caving videos. Most people in the video have very powerful (1000 lumen +) caving lamps.
The first dudes to do the ducks were undaunted!

Hi bob joe. I cannot see how you can possibly say this. We all did have great fun, at no time were we fighting for our lives and I can think are far more useless hobbies. It may not be the sport for you and you may not understand the pleasure but please don't tell us we're not having fun or over dramatise what is a very safe activity.
