I have been playing guitar for about 7 years now. A few years ago, I tried learning this though your tutorials and they were over my head; however, I always knew this was the best tutorial around. I never found a better one. Now, I have progressed in playing far enough to be able to pretty much replicate this playing. It is a very exciting feeling and I really appreciate this lesson.
I love how most people think learning guitar or any other musical instrument is easy. That moment at 2:10-2:16 I laughed because it happens to a lot of guitar players even though how professional they are, they still get stuck up on something. A great tutorial by the way. Helped me a lot!
It takes years to become a lead player. You have to be able to run the pentatonic scale without mistakes .. then when your ear finally catches solos like CN become relatively easy .
Man thank you so much for breaking this down. I sometimes use videos to save time learning songs and you did a great job on explaining a couple of the descending licks that were giving me a bit of frustration. I love your way of explaining things.
That's hilarious you said that cuz that's exactly what I thought...I thought it was going to be easy just a lot of memorizing then I realized whoa!!! I'm gonna have to pay attention here to make it sound right and give it the respect it deserves...no matter how you play it , it sounds pretty good, but after carefully listening to Gilmore's version, you realize you need it to make it sound great!!! I've run into the same situation with Billy Gibbons...you might learn the notes fast but to make it sound right takes the average guy some time...but these types of solos are worth every minute you invest in my humble opnion ;)
If anyone here is considering taking Skype lessons from Brett, I would strongly recommend it! He is SO thorough that he sends you a recap video of the lesson. It's by far the best $ that I have ever spent towards guitar, period.
@PapaStache - i think a good "inspired" lesson would be a "Knock Em Dead Kid vs Grinder" as the motley is damn close to the orgiinal judas lick and its just plain bad ass either way. I appreciate what you teach us. thanks
papastache, I really enjoy watching your lesson videos, they are detailed and very helpful. Can you PLEASE do a lesson on "Have you ever been (to Electric Ladyland)"- the instrumental?!
Im playing this for my guitar exam next week. I know how to play the whole solo, but im never satisfied. How do you play with that "feeling", when i take recordings of my playing it really sounds to im stressing while playing the solo. Got any tips how to not "stress" while playing solos's like this? ;)
Breathe! Visualize you playing it perfectly with feel. Go over it again and again in your mind. Sounds a little hippie but it works! Also play it slow with feel and then just keep speeding it up till you get it.
CN solo is a interesting jam, but it is not that difficult. The jam is in Bm pentatonic in the 3 positions of the neck. Throw in a couple of Jimi Hendrixs licks and it really isn't that hard. I learned it 20+ year's ago simply playing to the CD.
this aint exactly right search justinguitar comfortably numb solo for an accurate and ez way to learn this, then you can visit gilmourish com (left the . out) as you cant post links but there is a backing track for a ton of good floyd/ gilmour tunes to jam to. enjoy.
You are an awesome teacher... thanks from an old self taught rocker that truly wishes the internet was around in my youth!!!

Papa stache you are one of the best teachers on RUclips.
fantastic lessonl Also agree about Delicate sound of thunder. Gilmour's live version of this solo is just mind blowing
Totally agree on Comfortably Numb on Delicate being the best by far. Most folks claim Pulse (also good), but the DSOT solo is completely chilling.
I was looking for a telecaster. Version... thank you !!
Haha! You are welcome!
Thank you buddy! This was the only lesson on youtube that could realy teach me to perform this great solo of Gilmour!
Man thank you so much for breaking this down. I sometimes use videos to save time learning songs and you did a great job on explaining a couple of the descending licks that were giving me a bit of frustration. I love your way of explaining things.
Thanks for checking it out!
This probably the best guitar teacher on youtube! Love ya man
Thanks!
Great lesson. Thanks for your effort and for breaking down this seemingly easy but actually difficult solo. Peace.

Playing guitar is a challenge enough. playing through emotions such as David Gilmores solo is very difficult to master! great lesson!
thanks a lot! this is probably one of the most difficult ones to teach, you're great!
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
That's a WICKED Tele, dude......Beautiful tone. Looks great, too.
thank you so much for your step by step teaching on the solo.
This guy KILLS me!!! He's funny an his lessons are informative. YEAHHHHHH!!!!
that is pretty much the tone of the amp. I has a Divided By 13 Lift pedal just barely on but it does not change the tone of the amp at all.

I think that what happened at about 6:00 is proof that David Gilmoure is a absolute genius

jimi hendrix
This solo is really hard to learn
Keep trying and you'll get it. It will pay off in the end!
alright
You;re not a great guitar play until you can teach someone else in my opinion...lol And you're both in my opinion!
