Telling Maya to activate the sneakers comes from Greek mythology, Luke is the son of Hermes who also has sandals like that and Maya is the name of Hermes' mother, therefore Luke's grandmother
Oh!! Gotcha, that’s cool. Lol I was thinking that Thalia got turned into a tree so I had the theory that a girl named Maya was turned into the shoes! Haha that’s probably not right 🤣 Thank you so much for watching and letting me know!
i love how medusa used her curse to protect herself from bullies but at the same time you can see the lines of good and evil were blurred because of all the innocent people on her basement, like she had a point but then entirely lose it when she punished humans and satyrs, she was good but went to far which is a very common occurrence in this series 👀
WHAT?! So he’s Luke’s dad? And he’s gonna be in the show more?? Omg I’m sooo excited for that!!! And that makes a lot of sense why he delivered the head. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know!! 🥰
@@joanamartins2236 AHHH OMG! Like I said in this video, I’m gonna try to upload my reactions faster and catch up for next week’s episode. So I’ll be reacting to tonight’s episode within the next few days!!! 🤩
So, Medusa was in the books, but the trio didn’t recognize her for a while. The nuance of her story as a victim of the gods is in some versions of the myths, but not the ones Rick originally used for the books. I personally like that we got both versions told and don’t know who to trust. Because in some versions of the myths, her affair with Poseidon was… less than consensual. Which I think the show came as close to saying as they could for a kids show, with language like “survivor”, “the same monster”. The gods are not great people. On a lighter note: two of the statues in Medusa’s basement are Rick Riordan and his wife Becky. Percy’s iconic “I am impertinent” line is straight from the book and iconic as heck. Lin-Manuel Marandas is Hermes, the messenger of the Gods, for this show. We will be seeing him featured more in episode 6 (tonight).
That’s so interesting that the trio recognized Medusa immediately in the show but not in the books. I like how they portrayed her story in this episode! OMG that’s hilarious that they made statues of Rick and Becky to be in the show!! 😂 The impertinence line is sooo iconic, I cracked up lol. I’m so excited to see more of Lin!!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🤍
The oldest (known) version of Medusa's story where her affair with Poseidon wasn't consensual was Ovid's version. Ovid was Roman, not Greek, and he wrote his stories as fiction rather than religion. What the books did is combine her more evil Greek versions (where her relations with Poseidon at least appear to be consensual) with Ovid's version. But it looks like in the show they went more for just the Ovid side.
2:48 yes he can, and Percy can communicate with some sea creatures (I think) along with ALL horses and pegasi (horse with wings) bc Poseidon is the father of horses
You mentioned the movie a lot, and I don't know if you know this or not so I'll tell you: basically, Rick Riordan accepted the offer of having the books adapted into a movie. However, the movies had *everything* pretty much wrong. The movies are *not* reliable sources from the books, and a lot of us fans pretend they don't exist simply because of how horrible they were. Rick warned them not to publish the movie, but they did it any way. The movies had a lot of backlash, and rightfully so. Rick originally said he didn't want to have a reboot of the books, but when Disney+ offered it to him, he said yes. The idea was formed some time in 2019 and announced in 2020, ten years after the first movie's release. This time, Rick is involved in the making of the series. While it doesn't fit the books perfectly, the changes are great and much needed.
That’s so interesting! I haven’t read the Percy Jackson books yet and my only knowledge of the world was when I watched the movie when I was a kid. Basically all I remember from that movie was Medusa so that’s why I brought it up while watching this episode. I do know about it being nothing like the books and the backlash it got, I just didn’t know HOW it was different from the books so I find the differences super fascinating! I LOVE that Rick is super involved in this tv show bc then you know that any changes are true to the story and world 🥰 I love this Percy Jackson tv series sooo much!! It means so much to me already so I’m so excited to read the books after season 1! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🤍
Greek Mythology Fun facts: -Satyrs are nature spirits, so yes Grover and other satyrs can talk to animals. Satyrs also have some nature magic which I’m sure we’ll see (when they have the budget for it). -The winged horses are called Pegasi and are the offspring of the original Winged Horse from Greek Mythology, Pegasus. Additional fun fact in Greek Myth Poseidon is known as the Father of Horses because he created them. -You’ll find out very quickly that the Greek gods aren’t these fair and caring protectors on high with a few bad apples. The gods are us, just as flawed and petty as any human being but with godly power. Think back to the moment you were the most petty and now imagine if you had unlimited power in that moment. Most people would abuse that power and the Greek pantheon does. It’s what makes them both terrifying and compelling. -Medusa’s story really has no definitive version (almost no story in mythology does) these stories have been told and retold over thousands of years. In the original Greek myths Medusa was born a monster with two sisters almost as terrifying, but over time her story changed. In some versions of Medusa’s story her relationship with Poseidon was completely consensual, in others it wasn’t. Athena cursed Medusa but more modern interpretations have made it more of a gift to protect Medusa from those who would do her harm. All the versions while different are valid, because the stories are what we need them to be. The stories stoke creativity and it’s how we get something like the Percy Jackson series, and it’s ultimately a good thing. -Also the person holding Medusa’s head in the statue is Perseus, a Greek Demigod, son of Zeus, who was sent to slay Medusa to save his mom from marrying a tyrannical King. After saving his mom (and a princess named Andromeda whom he later married) Perseus gave Medusa’s head to Athena as a tribute and to thank her for her help in his quest. She then put Medusa’s head on her shield. While it still turns monsters and mortals to stone, it won’t kill any gods, but it still scares them and causes them to flinch when they see it. -Also Annabeth’s mistrust of Percy is partially due to an ongoing feud between Athena and Poseidon that has been going on for a few thousand years, ever since the people of Athens chose Athena as their patron god over Poseidon.
@@ShadySpotoh I remember. Just thought it might be better easing people into the weirdness of Greek mythology. It’s complicated explaining to people that Percy is technically half brothers with a flying horse. And that all the Pegasi are Percy’s nieces and nephews
I LOVE all of this!!! I wish I could talk to all creatures, that’d be such a cool power. Can’t wait to see Grover’s nature magic! The Pegasi are sooo pretty! Yeah I really don’t like the gods so far. While it’s so interesting Medusa has so many different versions of her myth, I really love how the Percy Jackson tv show portrayed Medusa’s story! That’s such a cool story about Perseus!!! And I had no idea Athena and Poseidon had a feud. This is all so fascinating. Thank you so much for watching and commenting this!! 😊🤍
so medusa was originally just a monster. She was born a gorgon just like her sisters. Later on people came up with the story of her being punished by athena for sleeping with poseidon inside athena’s temple, and then in recent years people have decided to consider it SA because of the power imbalance between a god and a mortal. Many people nowadays relate to the later versions of medusa’s story and so she has become a symbol for survivors of sexual assault, which I assume is why they went with the later versions of her story for this.
Wowwww that’s so interesting and cool how Medusa’s story has evolved over time. I loved how they portrayed her character in this episode!! Thank you so much for watching and letting me know this! 🤍
In the books, Medusa and posiden were in love and had sex in Athena’s temple and Athena punishes her. The kids fought her as a regular villain, without any shades of gray. This was the the most common version of the myth for a long time. Recently, the version that Medusa was SA’d became more common and championed by assault survivors. The author decided to update the show to be more in line with the current myth but still within the family friendly tv rating. I personally really like the changes!
Oh wow I didn’t know about the multiple different myths! I had only known about the SA version and that’s why I kinda liked Medusa and really felt bad for her. I love that Rick changed her story to be in line with that current myth. I think it adds so much more meaning to the show! Thank you so much for watching and letting me know! 😊
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesignsthe SA version is a Roman invention. The Greeks depicted the relationship between Medusa and Poseidon as consensual/ didn't really care about that question. Then the Roman author Ovid came along. He wrote basically gritty reboots of well known myths honing in on the idea of the gods as flawed creatures. His retelling of introduced the assault.
I have some info that might be helpful! First, the gods didn't order the statues. In the basement, Medusa mentions shipping the kids' statues to Olympus as a lesson, so I think she's doing it to taunt them, not because the want them. Second, Lin Manuel-Miranda's character is Hermes! That's why he's taking the head up to Olympus, because he's the god of messengers. So no unsuspecting mortals will get hurt!
OHHHH okay that makes so much more sense!!! I was wondering why the gods would want the statues lol but that explains it if Medusa sends them as lessons or payback. And I’m soooo excited for Lin to be Hermes!! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know this! 😊
If you’re ever interested in reading the books, I would recommend checking out a podcast called the Newest Olympian by Mike Schubert! He’s an adult who never read Percy Jackson as a kid and the whole show is him going and reading them for the first time with no context and looking at them from an adult perspective (with plenty of humor). He’s done with the entire first series and is now making episodes on the show as it comes out, although those have spoilers for the rest of the series, but I would totally recommend listening to that as you read the books (if you ever want to) considering you and him were/are in the same boat!
Yeah this is new in the show. I think the books had a tiny bit of her talking about her story, but more subtly because the kids didn't realize who she was immediately. So they definitely added more depth to her in the show, but all that was pretty much gone in the movie and she was just evil. So the book is somewhere in the middle. But yeah I like what they did in the show.
That’s so interesting!! I’ve heard that Rick Riordan is super involved in the tv show and the changes they’re making to the show. So if expanding on Medusa’s story was his idea then I’m super glad they did that bc it adds so much meaning! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know! 😊🤍
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns Yeah, I think it's great that's he's gotten a chance to add a bit more depth and make changes that are actual improvements he's had years to consider. There's always the saying that an artist is never finished with their art, they just eventually have to release it, so it's cool to see some of these changes. I'm all for changes that enhance the story and characters and build on it further, but obviously not changes just for the sake of changing things. Lol Anyways, yeah I'm definitely enjoying your reactions, it's fun to see how people react without having the context of the show, it helps us see how good the show actually is because people like you are totally understanding and enjoying it, despite not having prior context.
no one got killed from the head being sent to olympus, they’re olympian gods they’re fine. Lin manuel miranda plays Hermes, the messenger god. His line at the end implies that he already knows what’s in the box. Expect to see him again!
OHHH haha that makes so much more sense!! 😂 I was so confused how Percy was planning to kill the gods lol. I can’t wait to see Lin as Hermes again!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🤍
The Black horse with wings 2:34 is a Pegasus named "Blackjack" and I really hope they involve him in this show. I loved him in the books. They better not cut Blackjack's personality and cool moments in the story out of the show. Since you like horses then you'll love Blackjack in this story.
Here's the thing: there are three main versions of the myth of Medusa. 1st. She was born a Gorgon, and her relations with Poseidon in Athena's temple were fully consensual. She was cursed with the stone powers thingy by Athena as punishment for having desecreted her temple, and just in general, as she was a Gorgon, she was geniually a villain. That's the greek myth. All the myths where she's not born a Gorgon or where the relations with Poseidon weren't consensual, they are Roman. not to spoiler too much but I like this change because it's slightly foreshadowing to seasons 6-10.
Wow that’s so interesting and cool how Medusa’s story has evolved. I loved how they portrayed her character in this episode!! Thank you so much for watching and letting me know this! 🤍
New ep!! Im loving this series!! 2:13 Annabeth is the one!! (in multible ways ❤) 4:08 this question made me snort 4:27 inflation 😔 5:41 theyre the sweetest 🥰 5:44 fun fact: Maia is Hermes's mother!! Also interesting questions 👀 9:03 correct!! 12:34 wait for it... hehehe 17:10 thats our Percy
Yayyy thank you so much, I’m so happy you’re enjoying my reactions!! 🤩 HAHA I love all of this!! I didn’t know “I am impertinent” was in the books omg that’s ICONIC 😂 I love that Percy just wanted to annoy the gods, I would totally do that lol. It was definitely a shock but I love seeing Lin in this! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🤍
Love the reactions so far and welcome to the percy jackson family!!! The series has been brilliant so far (from a long time fan of the books) Some thoughts on this episode: - the amount of sass in this episode was off the charts. I love how we get to see their characters develop out in the real world and their dynamic as a trio. Their acting is amazing and it only gets better in the next episodes -The consensus song!!! In the books grover plays the pipes so I love how they managed to keep his musical talents in the show. The song was so cute -Leah was EVERYTHING in this episode -Jessica Parker Kennedy was incredible as Medusa - I personally love the change they made to the way they met and fought Medusa. They managed to keep the tension and make it scary. It's way different to the books (I would say the movie is probably actually closer) but I love that they made her into a complex character instead of a full on villain. The whole 'you can't tell who the monster is' is such an interesting take (no spoilers but this develops even further in the next episode) - lin Manuel miranda as hermes is such a surprise casting but honestly I am here for it lol
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my reactions and I’m SO happy to be a part of the fandom now 🤩 THE SASS!!! Someone told me the fandom calls him Persassy and I love that 😂 I also really loved seeing them form their dynamic as a trio. In the books does Grover play the pipes and sing the song or just play the pipes and the song is just in the show? Bc I LOVE the song lol If the Medusa plot was really changed for the show, I LOVE that change!! It adds so much complexity and gray areas and mystery! Lin-Manuel is Hermes?! OMG I’M SO EXCITED!!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🥰
there are multiple different versions of Medusa's myth, in some versions she was born a gorgon and doesn't have anything to do with the gods and just a monster for the original Perseus to kill on his adventures. Other versions she was a maiden of Athena who was raped by Poseidon, other versions of her entered the relationship consensually. Some versions it's a punishment for breaking her oath, some versions make Athena a villain of the whole story by cursing Medusa after she was attacked, other verisons it's a gift to make sure no one would ever attack her again. there's a lot of different verisons of old stories, especially ones that are thousands of years old, the books and the series seem to be a mix of them
Oh WOW that’s so interesting and cool how Medusa’s story has evolved over time. I loved how they portrayed her character in this episode!! Thank you so much for watching and letting me know all of this!! 🤍
I am so glad to find a video (and comments section) that is overwhelmingly positive about this show. Way too many people are hating on it because of changes from the book. But...the changes in this episode have given us some of the best scenes in the show.
Absolutely!! I’m definitely the kind of person who likes to have fun watching a show, whether it’s 100% perfect or not I still just have fun! Percy Jackson is an AMAZING tv show so it’s so easy to love it!!! Obviously I haven’t read the book yet but from what I’ve heard about it, I love the changes they’ve made for the show so far. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 🤩🤍
OMG Thank you so much!! 🤩 I just uploaded my reaction to episode 4 and my reaction to episode 5 should be live within the next couple days. Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🤍
Love Celestial trio. I have head people call them Celestial trio, Bronze trio and Celestial Bronze trio. No idea what the official name is but Celestial Bronze is the material their magical weapons are made of so all tree would make absolute sense especially when the Harry Potter trio is also named after a precious metal 😅😅
7:37 it's not really an excuse since it's a reoccurring rule for Percy throughout the series. And in the book it's been stated from the start they had to stick on land since Zeus is raging lighting and will definitely "accidentally" kill Percy.
if you still want to experience Percy Jackson after watching this (and maybe reading the book), without watching the movie (because it's...bad) there is a musical. For a long time it was the only good adaptation of the first book and the songs are on spotify and really good (maybe after watching the season there are spoilers in it though).
Remember to comment all your thoughts on episode 3! 🥰 It was seriously such a rollercoaster lol. The consensus song was hilarious but the Medusa plot was so sad. And Lin-Manuel Miranda at the end?!?! OMG I love him 🤩 Overall, the first episode of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover’s quest was so exciting and I can’t wait for episode 4!
I'm late to this party but I'm loving your reactions so far! Your love and excitement for this is so much fun to watch! As a fan of the books I love how they did the show so much. Also, I'm not sure if someone else has already said this, but the reason they gave grover the shoes is that they decided it probably wasn't safe for Percy, for the same reason he shouldn't be on an airplane.
I loved everything about this!!! The fact that Rick made Medusa’s plot so much more meaningful and complex, and the writing, and Jessica’s actingggg 🔥 Everything about this episode was so mysterious and amazing 🤩
@@LunarJeishin I totally agree!! Every episode of the show just keeps blowing my mind with how amazing it is! I can’t wait to react to the other episodes 🤩
The version in which Medusa is ab*sed by Poseidon is a Roman version, created by a Roman Catholic who was banished from Athens, which led him to have a special hatred for the goddess Athena, creating this story for people to turn against Athena and the pantheon Greek, in the Greek version Medusa was already born a monster
Oh wow that’s so interesting how Medusa’s story has so many versions. I loved how they portrayed her character in this episode!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🤍
That’s so exciting!!! I can’t wait to see more episode with him in it! And that’s awesome that his kid is a fan of Percy Jackson. How awesome! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know 😊

I've read the pjo, I've read the kane chronicles, I've read the heroes of olympus, I've read the trials of apollo, I've read the Magnus Chase books, i even run a percy jackson inspired rp server on discord, emphasis on inspired. I'm enjoying watching the reactions of people who haven't read the books who are reacting to the show. If you do read the books for the first time, i ask that it be done after said book is complete on the show
I was definitely thinking of doing that! I was thinking about reading book 1 after reacting to season 1, then reading book 2 after reacting to season 2, etc. I’m LOVING watching the tv show not knowing anything!! That’s so cool the Percy Jackson world is such a big part of your life. I love the fandom. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 😊
The Medusa stuff is all updated from the books. So much more sympathy for Medusa and it makes it so much more emotionally complex. Changes like this are why the show is better than the books, which I don’t say likely.
I totally agree this episode’s version made it emotionally complex. I love this version of Medusa and how this portrayal made her story more mysterious and confusing, not knowing what to think. I loved this episode so much! I’ll definitely be looking into the different Medusa myths for fun, she’s always fascinated me. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know! 🤍
I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!! I can't wait for the final episode reaction, it's so cool seeing non book readers react to the show! AND I LOVE THE FLASH TOO, so SEEING JESSICA WAS SO COOL!! SHE KILLED IT!!! I also used to LOVE Harry potter and saw the musicals and was an intense potterhead before I read Percy jackson in the pandemic and the hp author made me get no more joy for hp (but movie/musical still OP), so it's cool seeing your refrences and reacting a lot like me when reading the books cuz i also didn't know much mythology too! So i had tons of same questions and theories like you! AND I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM!! And gosh I really love this show, can't wait for you to see the final!! Also getting spoiled in this fandom is very easy, so you have done very well! And I am glad the comments on all these videos have been 99% non-spoilers! It's much more fun that way! Also when you do eventually read the book, please react to the movies again cuz they are so inaccurate they are going to make you physically cringe, and it's so bad it's funny.
Thank you so much, I’m SO EXCITED for the other episodes!! Everyone keeps talking about episodes 4 and 5 so I can’t wait. Thanks so much for watching 😊
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns girll, im out here waiting patiently (not really) for every new video you upload. I don't know why, but you're videos have a certain magic to them

I love your enthusiasm and i can’t wait for the last episode…no spoiler but you are going to freak out!!!! BTW i just found your channel and watched 4 video in a row!! Love it!!!

Okay so, to answer a few of your questions there at the end, the gods can’t die cuz they’re gods so they can’t be turned to stone either, no one random was going to end up opening the box because they mailed via Hermes Express (Hermes is the god of travellers, messengers, thieves, etc. (Also Luke’s dad) and delivers the mail sent via his postal service personally.) Lin Manuel Miranda plays Hermes.
OHHHH haha that makes so much more sense 😂 I was wondering what Percy’s exact plan was lol. I’m so excited Lin is playing Hermes!! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know 🤍
Also, the gods can't die from a medusa's head because of gods. They can't die at all. They can be killed on the mortal form, but they can't be dead forever. So the former can be killed, but not them.
Another great reaction, Sarah! As always, I love the good vibes :). Between your reaction, episode 6 coming out tonight, and my second straight day off of work due to the snow/cold, this may be the best Tuesday ever. I’ve followed you on Instagram, and I’ve seen a lot of snow where you’re at too (also, your dog is adorable!!!), so I’m curious: where do you live? I’m in Michigan. 6:35- Although you are right that reviving Thalia as a human is a better idea than turning her into a tree, it is one of the "better" things the gods have done, at least in the books. Remember how in the first episode, Grover said that Sally wouldn't be able to make it into camp? That's because Thalia's Tree acts as a barrier, protecting the camp from monsters and not allowing any monsters or mortals into it. He didn't want any other Demis to die like his daughter did, so when she died, he made her a protective barrier to ensure that no one would...unless they left camp, that is. So, yes, it stinks that he didn't revive her *and* plant the tree barrier, but it is a nice gesture all the same. 6:58- Two things. A: I also would be thinking that...and, unfortunately, probably say it aloud too, so I'm with ya Percy. B: I don't think that Percy meant it to be mean towards Annabeth and Thalia. I've been others online say that he meant that more as a jab at the gods, and, especially given the events of the end of the episode, that seems very logical. He still doesn't like his dad, or any of the gods for that matter, so he said it to get at them, not Annabeth. Still not the best timing, but at least it doesn't seem like he meant for it to hurt their feelings. 10:26- To say that Annabeth and Athena have *beef* is a bit strong. They actually have one of the better god/child relationships from what I remember. They'll go into this more in the next episode, but Annabeth doesn't really believe in "asking the gods for help." She thinks that if you *earn* their help, they'll give it to you, but you have to deserve it. She believes that the Celestials have to do everything right, and then the gods will help. Make a misstep and they're SOL. This will carry into the next episode and Medusa's head/LMM play a part in it. (Also, since you seemed a little confused by LMMs little cameo, he is in fact a god. He's Hermes, the messenger god/Luke's dad. Ep. 6 tonight will be especially fun because he is coming back for the Casino stuff!) 12:34- Good catch on the statue! 15:15- I didn't even catch that line, but that is SO good, and you are definitely right in your reading of it. I won't spoil, but Episode 4 is not a good one for Annabeth. She doesn't act as mean, but it's still not a good episode for her. I kind of talk a little bit more about this in my 10:26 timestamp, too, but you are right to be weary. 15:58- So, Medusa worshipped Athena, but then Poseidon started to notice her and took advantage of her in ways that some scholars have said was of a...non-consensual sexual nature. Then, Athena cursed Medusa so that everyone who looked at her would turn to stone and all that. If anyone else knows more and has even read this far, feel free to fill in gaps/correct where necessary, but that's what I know. 17:51- Somewhere in that basement there's a statuefied version of Rick Riordan! 21:40- Episode 5 is also very good at showing the connection that Annabeth and Percy have...even before they start getting involved romantically, so I'm super stoked to watch you react to that one!
OMG thank you so much, that means so much to me!! Oh wow I didn’t know Thalia as a tree acted as the barrier! That’s so interesting. So before her, monsters could come into the camp easier? That’s crazy. Oh I totally get that Percy meant it as a jab to the gods. He’d never purposely offend Annabeth like that but I think she took it personal. But I’m with Percy, I don’t like the gods. I’m so worried for Annabeth when it comes to the foreshadowing Athena will turn on her! I don’t like Athena bc of what she did to Medusa. OMG there’s a statue or Rick in there? That’s hilarious! I can’t wait to react to the next episodes!! Thank you so much again for watching and commenting! 😊
My I never get why they gave the shoes to Grover before said it. I thought it was for the sake of their plan, or to give him something to fight with (he doesn't seem to have any weapon). But now that you said it I felt so dumb lol. For Medusa, I'm wondering if they were trying to do the "all villain's have reasons" trope backwards. Usually, you met the villain first and you get the sad backstory later, this way you can feel sad for them and see as less horrible. But then they do the opposite, shows the backstory and tricks you to think that she may not be that bad, only to show you all the innocent people turned to stone and how crazy her reasoning is. And this made her most terrifying, cause you want to trust her but then you see how much you can't.
The Medusa myth you're talking about is roman, not greek. In the original version she is born a monster, snake hair, tusks and all. she even has sisters! They are known as the Gorgons. The Roman version (that she was a beautiful mortal woman who got turned into a monster by Athena) got popularized as a feminist story much much later. Both in the books and the show they try and play both versions: she got turned, and that's awful, but then she used her powers to terrorize people and that's also not good. The only confusing part is that in the Riordanverse she also has Gorgon sisters, so I don't know what's up with that unless they're implied that Athena turned her whole family
Oh wow that’s so interesting how Medusa’s story has so many different versions. I loved how they portrayed her character in this episode!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 🤍
OH!! Haha omg that’s so cool and makes so much more sense 😂 I can’t wait to see more episodes with him in it! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know 😊

Yeah I really love this version of Medusa! It makes her story so complex and mysterious, so Percy doesn’t know what to think. I loved this episode! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊
Knowing more about her accident. storage, really dark. Medusa was a priestess for Athena. and she got SA by Poseidon. And since she was supposed to be a virgin until she died because of her theme being a priest for Athena. she got blamed in Zeus into a person that can't be seen without being from the stone because of her beauty. She's also known for being very beautiful, and that's another reason that she became a coarse. So when whoever saw hole would thunderstone
Oh my gosh that’s soooo sad. I freakin HATE Poseidon so much. I don’t know how he could possibly be redeemed as a good god after that. Thanks so much for letting me know Medusa’s story!
That's one version of the myth. There are multiple versions and interpretations of most myths since they are so old and have been told differently in different times and places This show is obviously not going to go the SA route because it's a children's show. Medusa's story in the show mostly functions as a way to make the child characters, as well as the audience, question if the gods are always right and just
Regarding Medusa, i believe according to greek myths, she was born a gorgon , with her powers. But in the Roman myths, she was human who was SAd by posidon and turned into a monster. I think in the book as well as the movie, it more followed the greek myth. But the series are based on the roman myth. Despite them mixing mythologies, i like the change.
That’s so interesting that there’s different versions of the Medusa myths! The SA version is sooo sad. But I really love the portrayal of her character and story in this episode! It brought so much meaning to the plot. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know! 🤍
Actually, for his books riordan chose to mix th roman version of ovid's myth w/ th original greek 1s, making medusa th daughter of th sea-gods phorcys n cetus but making her monstrous appearance n powers th result of athena's curse. In th books th relationship btw medusa n poseidon was consensual, w/ her feeling honored to have attracted th attentions of a man like him. Even if not explicitly said, th same thing is also strongly implied in th show, in fact medusa says that she's not angry w/ th god for having raped her or smth, but she's angry w/ him for not having done anything to save her frm athena's wrath even tho he had told her to love her. This is why she's so empathetic towards percy n his mom, cause sally was also a lover of god who in her time of need did not receive help
I don't think he was planning to kill the guards, more like send a message that he's not one to mess with. When he said the Medusa head. anyways, that's why I took out of it.
OH!! Gotcha that makes perfect sense!! Percy definitely wanted to send the message that he, a little kid, took down Medusa, someone people have failed to beat for thousands of years. The gods better know now that Percy is capable of a lot more than they originally thought! 🔥 Thanks so much for watching and explaining that to me! 😊
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesignsI’ve always thought it was more of a rebuke of the gods. “You turned this person into a monster, face the reality of what you made” like Percy said in the show, like batteries, you return dangerous stuff to where they came from.
My biggest complaint is how they made Annabeth so ignorant of a lot of Greek Mythology and Percy almost all-knowing. It was the exact opposite in the books. Annabeth knows the truth about Medusa, she's knows that what Poseidon and Athena did to her was incredibly cruel. But at the end of the day Medusa was turned into an immortal monster that is completely fine with murder. Medusa was (thousands of years ago) a victim turned into a monster.
In defense of Thalia becoming a tree (not in defense of Zeus turning her into a tree cuz Zeus sucks, just the fact that she turned into one) shapeshifting was a common thing in Greek myths. Whether it be Zeus into a swan cuz it would be easier to have sex with Leto that way (so many questions but whatever. Also, that myth falls into the same category of Medusa of different versions have it be consensual or rape) or Daphne into a tree (by asking her father to help her, not in the way she's a dryad/tree spirit) to escape Apollo from having sex with her. Nature was a much more present theme and a lot more interwoven in myths and people's lives, so Thalia becoming a pine tree is just par for the course.
a medusa se faz meio de vitima, ela diz que é contra os montros e tem um monte deles no jardim da frente, mas ela tem todas essas outras pessoas inocentes escondidas no porão
this episode don’t have MUCH of the book, it’s my least favorite episode, in the book they take toooo long to know that Aunt Em is Medusa and in the bus catches fire and kill the fury’s before they even get to medusa
Not trying to be annoying but her name is spelled Maia
@@MaddyPerez128 That’s good to know! Thank you! 😊
i love how medusa used her curse to protect herself from bullies but at the same time you can see the lines of good and evil were blurred because of all the innocent people on her basement, like she had a point but then entirely lose it when she punished humans and satyrs, she was good but went to far which is a very common occurrence in this series 👀
I am pretty sure Thalia would have love the pine cone joke.
HAHA I haven’t read the books so I don’t know much about Thalia but I LOVE the idea that she would’ve laughed at that joke 😂
heyy, so lin manuel miranda isn't just some random cameo, he was actually cast as hermes! that's why he was the one delivering the head to olympus :)
WHAT?! So he’s Luke’s dad? And he’s gonna be in the show more?? Omg I’m sooo excited for that!!! And that makes a lot of sense why he delivered the head. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know!! 🥰
yup, he's actually in the trailer for this week's episode, that's dropping in a few hours!@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns
WHAAAT that’s so cool!!! I’d love the power to talk to animals. Thanks so much for watching and letting me know! 😊🤍
Greek Mythology Fun facts:
-Satyrs are nature spirits, so yes Grover and other satyrs can talk to animals.
Don't forget that in Medusa's story that when Perseus beheads her, she was pregnant still because of Poseidon. From her body sprung Pegasus and a boy
@@ShadySpotoh I remember. Just thought it might be better easing people into the weirdness of Greek mythology. It’s complicated explaining to people that Percy is technically half brothers with a flying horse. And that all the Pegasi are Percy’s nieces and nephews
@@TBoring fair point
Jessica Parker Kennedy played the perfect Medusa.
I couldn’t stop laughing at the part of the book when Percy mailed Medusa’s head to Olympus
Jessica was FABULOUS!!! Her acting was so perfect and incredible. Lol “I am impertinent” cracked me up!! Percy is so real for that 😂
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns can’t wait to see your reaction to episode 5(which is my favourite episode so far)
That’s so interesting and a super cool idea! I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks so much for watching and for the recommendation 🤩
So glad I saw this, new podcast for me :D
Yeah. Annabeth hasn’t been out of camp much at all. She says something in episode 5 that makes you say oh that makes sense! Don’t want to spoil!
Ohh that’s interesting! I can’t wait to react to episode 5 so soon! Thanks so much for watching 😊
Lol
Anyways, yeah I'm definitely enjoying your reactions, it's fun to see how people react without having the context of the show, it helps us see how good the show actually is because people like you are totally understanding and enjoying it, despite not having prior context.
no one got killed from the head being sent to olympus, they’re olympian gods they’re fine.
The consensus song is ADO-RA-BLE!!! I'm OBSESSED with it!!!
HAHAHA Grover and Percy singing it were probably my favorite parts of the episode!! 🤣
Here's the thing:
there are three main versions of the myth of Medusa.

Love the reactions so far and welcome to the percy jackson family!!! The series has been brilliant so far (from a long time fan of the books)
Some thoughts on this episode:
- the amount of sass in this episode was off the charts. I love how we get to see their characters develop out in the real world and their dynamic as a trio. Their acting is amazing and it only gets better in the next episodes
-The consensus song!!! In the books grover plays the pipes so I love how they managed to keep his musical talents in the show. The song was so cute
-Leah was EVERYTHING in this episode
-Jessica Parker Kennedy was incredible as Medusa
- I personally love the change they made to the way they met and fought Medusa. They managed to keep the tension and make it scary. It's way different to the books (I would say the movie is probably actually closer) but I love that they made her into a complex character instead of a full on villain. The whole 'you can't tell who the monster is' is such an interesting take (no spoilers but this develops even further in the next episode)
- lin Manuel miranda as hermes is such a surprise casting but honestly I am here for it lol
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my reactions and I’m SO happy to be a part of the fandom now 🤩
THE SASS!!! Someone told me the fandom calls him Persassy and I love that 😂 I also really loved seeing them form their dynamic as a trio.
In the books does Grover play the pipes and sing the song or just play the pipes and the song is just in the show? Bc I LOVE the song lol
If the Medusa plot was really changed for the show, I LOVE that change!! It adds so much complexity and gray areas and mystery!
Lin-Manuel is Hermes?! OMG I’M SO EXCITED!!!!

@@ianlee4565 Well I LOVED it lol. “Oh golly” cracked me up 😂
there are multiple different versions of Medusa's myth, in some versions she was born a gorgon and doesn't have anything to do with the gods and just a monster for the original Perseus to kill on his adventures.

The Medusa stuff is all updated from the books. So much more sympathy for Medusa and it makes it so much more emotionally complex. Changes like this are why the show is better than the books, which I don’t say likely.
The Medusa story has evolved so much over the last 1600 years. Seriously worth a deep dive. There are some good summary videos on here.

Your reactions are great! You totally just get the show, which is really nice to see from a non book reader.
Thank you so much!! 🤩 I definitely love to get really into a show and just have fun which is sooo easy with a show as amazing as Percy Jackson!! I just uploaded my reaction to episode 4 and it was my favorite episode yet! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🤍
Ohhhh haha that makes a lot more sense 😂 I was wondering why Percy thought they could be taken down so easily
Ep. 6 tonight will be especially fun because he is coming back for the Casino stuff!)
12:34- Good catch on the statue!
"We're like sisters, in a way." Well...I guess unofficial sister wives, considering both Sally and Medusa gave 'birth' to children of Poseidon.
Medusa is a new interpretation, Lin is a god
Ohhh good to know, thank you!! 😊
Lynn is Hermes!!! The head was shipped via Hermes Express!
OH!! Haha omg that’s so cool and makes so much more sense 😂 I can’t wait to see more episodes with him in it! Thanks so much for watching and letting me know 😊
Also, sorry if any of my speeches messed up. I'm using speech text cause I Reading and writing disability.
You’re totally good! I can definitely understand what you’re saying. Thanks so much for commenting!
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns Fun fact about me is that I'm autistic and I have a leading disability and a wedding disability for mental trauma. My parents were not the greatest, to say the least. but that's why I. can't wait, but I love the percy Jackson series because I love audio books. That's why I like weak mythology. It took me to places that things are bad, they won't be bad percyJackson series. When I had nobody done a careful me, it took me to help me out when I had nothing. and it showed me my lessons in life that even if. That's why I love seeing people with.... That's why I love seeing people with reactions to the series I love, and that got me through very hard times.
The medusa is a sympathetic character is a more recent variation on he myth than the original myths. I like the more common one too just saying
There are multiple versions and interpretations of most myths since they are so old and have been told differently in different times and places
This show is obviously not going to go the SA route because it's a children's show. Medusa's story in the show mostly functions as a way to make the child characters, as well as the audience, question if the gods are always right and just
Show. I agree. I just wanted to let her know the version of the myth that I knew
@@raulgarcia5090 Yeah, of course!
@@katiew1490 Oh wow I LOVE that if that’s what Percy was thinking! That’s powerful.
@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns agreed! And you’ll see later that Athena is especially displeased with Percy sending the head, so it makes sense
wow, we've watched the show 3 times already and never caught the "some of it goes to Olympus" line.
So Annabeth hasn’t been outside camp since she was like 7. She is 12 now.
I thought she came to camp when she was 7?
WOW. Then this quest is definitely such a big change and moment for her! Thanks for letting me know!
@@ariesdork5283 sorry my bad
Medusa is a victim who chose to continue the cycle of abuse and harm. She was hurt so now she hurts.
a medusa se faz meio de vitima, ela diz que é contra os montros e tem um monte deles no jardim da frente, mas ela tem todas essas outras pessoas inocentes escondidas no porão
this episode don’t have MUCH of the book, it’s my least favorite episode, in the book they take toooo long to know that Aunt Em is Medusa and in the bus catches fire and kill the fury’s before they even get to medusa
