Well, not in the anime. If you pay attention to what the animators and Kaji (his VA) are doing, is much more clear that he's an awful liar. Specially Kaji, he's not doing an antagonist voice, he's doing a sad boy voice (very similar to Todoroki from BHA)
Eren is a natural manipulator. He did the same to falco. He brings up sentimental topics and uses those topics to sway his opponents and weaken them. He made falco pity him and gave him advice and falco sent those letters for him. He did the same to these two. You'll see him manipulating more people later on in the story.
